what a surprise rocky got in the morning when she went to take a shower and suddenly everything burned all over, hopping out immediately but it wasn’t where it ended. even in the tap water she packed in her water bottle for throughout the day burned her throat, unscrewing the lid and pouring the rest out to the patch of grass outside. sitting down, clearing her throat to get the afterburn from her mouth... what even was that? why did it burn? “trade you five bucks for a coke.”

“Since we’re getting close to spooky season I wanted to pop by and see if we could hash out our days off to one figure our movie line up, maybe organize a barrett bash like we did when we were kids with costumes and all. That and I like your coffee maker better than mine” Cass spoke, checking her wrist tapping the screen on the watch to see the number of miles she’d ran this morning having needed to blow off steam knowing she just could show up at anyone’s house at the crack of dawn. “I put a pot on it’s not ready yet.. I am also aware its about 5am. I may not be triggered but you know I don’t sleep well and drinking coffee alone feels just as sad as drinking drinking alone”
aidan has just barely brushed the sleep out of his eyes when he looks at the clock. nearly five am - the usual time to start the day on his day off which was few and in between these days but he was eager to spend it more with josh (first things first though: coffee then a shower), also apparently spending the first portion of it was cass; not that he minded much anyway. the surprise long left his features years ago, it was almost like she was his roommate at this point. “morning cass,” he greets her as she finishes about the upcoming halloween season. honestly, he hadn’t thought that far ahead, it was close to october already? “who knows, maybe you’ll get your own for christmas. maybe.” he gives a light shrug as he leans against the counter, the coffee making in its pot already filling the house with its aroma. “that doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea by the way. i’m sure we can figure something out. you already have a movie list idea yet?” she was cassandra barrett and as sure as he was standing there, she already had it planned knowing her.

though populated , grey didn’t feel the need to run when he stepped foot inside mocha valley. it seemed quiet enough to calm the anxiety , minus the people. that was always the worst part. practice makes perfect , and if he wants to get any sort of information , he should be making a good impression on the citizens – even if he won’t be here for long. on a mission and this was a step to complete it , hopefully.
moves his backpack towards his feet , out of the way of anyone walking by if needed. doesn’t need people stealing his stuff. “if could , if you really wanted me to — though i don’t really want to get kicked out on the offense of biting someone.” to prove a point , most of all. least they didn’t seem to be too miffed about sharing a table , if them sitting down was any indication. “heard her trying to do one'a them schemes earlier - selling some kind of skin care to this other lady , it was weird.” takes a sip of his water. “could be a lot worse – could’ve left you there to sit with her , make nice. sounds like a fuckin’ nightmare to me.”
“i’d rather avoid a messy situation if possible. keep your pearls over there and i’ll keep mine here.” she quips back herself though it holds truth; even if someone was stronger than she was or held more of a bite than her, she’d never go down without swinging (and the scars to prove it). “make nice? one of three things would happen: a, she could fuck off 'cuz anyone with half a brain would recognize the scam they’re bein’ sold. if not, they’re stupid and i don’t feel sorry for ‘em. b, she can simply shut it or c, i put my earbuds in and ignore her existence until i see an opportunity to bounce to a more spacey set up. now i like c best simply because i like my music blarin’ out my eardrums until i forget other human beings exists.” she states with complete nonchalance in tone to top off with a smile of contempt. in reality, that’s just how she liked to live in the world, ignoring everyone as long as possible. it was safer, easier and certainly less button pressing than people like to be at times. which was often more times than she’d like. “ ⸺ you’re right about one thing though: she is weird. reminds me of a creepier female rumpelstiltskin. she’ll spin straw into gold for you and your only payment? your first born. she seems the type.”

Charlie watched the girl carefully, resisting the urge to raise a brow at the stilted reply she got. She needed to school herself while on the clock, not wanting her default attitude to lose her the job since she actually enjoyed baking (plus, she didn’t want to already revert back to stealing and pickpocketing to get by in this town). So when the girl continued and asked about layered desserts Charlie nodded, walking over to the display case to point some things out. “We have three kinds of layered chocolate cakes. One is a three layer regular cake, one is an opera cake with a layer that are soaked in almond and coffee syrups, and the last is a layered mousse with milk, white, and dark chocolate layers. Or if you want something more crunchy, I just made some cream puffs filled with a chocolate pastry cream.”
rocky listens as the worker lists off all the different layered chocolates just as she had asked, following each one by ear, letting her stomach (and eyes) do the thinking with which sounds best appetizing. brows knit together at one of the suggestions: opera cake. opera? “what a weird name for a cake...” though she was curious, she wasn’t that curious. instead, she shrugs. anyway, it all sounded so... fancy and probably costed much more than the sad amount of change in pocket. probably anyway. not like she treated herself enough to know estimates. “sounds neat, i guess. i haven’t even had half of that. what about cookies?” aka: something familiar where she’d know she wouldn’t be wasting decent coins on.

She attempted to contain her laughter, she was sure the funny side faded fast when you were in the situation yourself. Katya’s smile did grow when the idea of expensive lingerie was brought up, that was one of her favorite things about recent decades, “Oh most definitely, I’d kill anyone who ruined any of my sets no matter the price, maybe that’s why I never stick to one person though…They appreciate and leave.” A shake of her head and Katya tilted her head slightly in question, “Drink? And then you can tell me how you found yourself in that situation in the first place?”
“well, they did leave but didn’t quite have the time to appreciate.” she laughs at the unfortunate nature of it all; someone who doesn’t get to revel in the zest and zing due to inability to hold their liquor were fools. “oh,” she nods her head in acceptance with a smile. “i’d love one. and if i know you, your choice in taste will certainly not disappoint.”

In the weeks since moving here, Charlie had slowly gotten settled into a little apartment she’d gotten with her best friend, Alex. And once settled, she decided that instead of just pickpocketing and using her magic to confuse unaware inhabitants, she’d actually get a job instead–and given that baking was the one thing she actually knew she was good at, Charlie ended up getting a job at the bakery in town, which is where she currently was (still counting down the hours until she got to go home though).
She was putting trays of muffins and smaller pastries into the display case when someone walked in and she glanced over. “You need help picking something or do you know what you want?”

rocky was lucky to manage to find some change laying around and it’d been a while since she actually had something worthwhile that wasn’t a necessary meal. their nose scrunches at the word ‘help’. no, they didn’t want it although they might need it if they want to get anywhere and they wouldn’t settle on something they were likely to hate from silence. their memory runs blank on the names of half the stuff there, having only been the lenore’s once in the past. “i.... know i want chocolate,” they mention, crossing their arms over the counter as they approach it. “you got anythin’ layered?”

Honestly, even if Rocky had gone into a speech about Barbie and Ken, he would’ve definitely listened to every word and took it all in. Maybe take mental notes as if she were a professor giving a class. Alas, they strayed from the subject. “Giga brained?” Danny echoed in genuine wonder as if he’d never heard that before. “Is… is that good?” But he just bit his bottom lip at her comparison about the shirt and then him tripping, and he just slowly rocked back and forth on his heels. “Ah, aha, yeah,” he admitted with a soft laugh. Though the last question made his mouth run dry and he blinked several times.
“Oh, I… well, uh, a few times?” Danny confessed quietly, gulping so loud that it probably echoed through the place. “Like, uh, during school… I tried to keep out of people’s way but…” A few times, that kind of failed. He tapped his fingers against the notepad. “I have bad coordination. I mean, I can do art? I like to draw and paint and stuff.”
“big brain.” is all they’ll elaborate on it further. they weren’t about to tell him it was due to their obsessive twitch habits they threw the term at him. she shouldn’t be too surprised however, him spending his time picking up trash than anything else. “it’s fine.” they give another light shrug.
“figures.” they comment back. definitely seemed the type to have gotten an invite to square up after the bell or just take him in between. both seemed likely. “high school was rough,” they wouldn’t exactly know really, he was looking at a drop out (well, unofficial drop out) barely scraping by but that wasn’t need-to-know info with... how much change was left over in their pockets? “ ⸺ somethin’ tells me you’re still the same in which case, you should grow some skin. we’re not in school anymore and people don’t just hang you by your underwear, y’know? people don’t fuck around like dickhead high school kids.” when others hold steel to your throat, you give them claws with a bonus of your teeth and that’s just how rocky perceived the world. anything less than, you might as well hand them your dignity which rocky refused to ever do. “yeah? what’s your speed? like... what things do you like to draw?”

LOCATION , mocha valley. it isn’t unusual to find grey by himself — it’s a natural state at this point , with the fact that he knows barely anyone in ashwick not making his circumstances any better. it’s hard to do , be out and open in the public and not squaring away in solitude like they wants to. that’s how he finds himself in mocha valley. not a coffee drinker by any means , but he’ll take a water any day. watching the people out the window , mostly creating his own stories for them that may not be true is a new game he’s come up with ( though probably not original ) . it isn’t until he feels a presence near him , causing him to come back to reality. “you can sit , you know.” not like he needs the whole table to himself. it’s them , their cracked iphone and their beloved backpack that’s taking up space. room for others is welcome , even if grey doesn’t want to admit it. “i’m not gonna bite you.” ( @ashwickstarters )
the wolf scans through mocha valley, it was surely full today as there were people clumped together like a hoard and there are no tables left that weren’t occupied in some form. there was only one that semi had the room which luckily wasn’t an overcrowd but unluckily? there was still at least one person there. though her mood was decent for the day, it wasn’t entirely a bother. rocky didn’t drink coffee (never had and never will) but she did like their juice and all she was after was starting her new strip and enjoy her juice in relative peace.
“bite? please, don’t make ashwick more interesting than it already is.” she scoffs, retorting back with clear sarcasm. the town was more slow paced than what she was used to and she still hadn’t quite gotten used to it despite adapting her surroundings and way of living to it but for comfort? it was still an odd one. “cool though. this was the least busy table and i didn’t wanna be stuck next to martha stewart over there.” rocky gives a nod to the blonde two tables over, messenger bag strap slides off her shoulder as she sets it down, providing an obvious distance between herself and him. “look at you saving lives from the dangers of home economics and or home redeck boredom.”

to say agatha was a little bit tipsy was an understatement. she was in an annoyed, frustrated, ready-to-kill kind of mood. so it was no surprise when she ordered another round of shots and spoke up over the music, not quite caring if someone unaware overheard her. “the coven has been so fucking useless lately. they keep running around like headless chicken without a proper leader. so…” she raised her glass as if making a toast. “I’ve decided I’m going to be the new leader. they clearly need some guidance and I’m totally perfect for the role, don’t you think? cheers!”
just how much had agatha been drinking tonight? could she not hold her liquor? tazeen gives a slight smile to her fellow coven member. cordial they were but in no sentiment were they best friends. “not all of us,” she corrects her. she might’ve been more off being busy with her own things but tazeen’s head was clearly on straight though agatha had a point: most of the other members were not handling being leaderless well. “you? the leader? we need someone capable of making less... hasty commitments over a drunken whim.”

Weird. Danny blinked in surprise, not really sure he was understanding what she meant by that. “Oh… does it?” he asked quietly, seeming concerned now that he was doing something bad. “Ah, Ken doll? Well, I– isn’t his character considered to be like… uh, perfect and stuff? Cause I’m not… I’m like the opposite,” Danny explained with wide eyes, nodding several times and giving a nervous smile. “Like I accidentally put my shirt on backwards this morning and didn’t notice until later. I, uh, also tripped when walking in here…”
they want to reply, go into detail how just how perfect stupid ken and barbie were; it should’ve been considered abuse to let your children watch anything barbie related (not that rocky themself ever was into it, they’d seen their younger foster siblings go crazy for it which was annoying but maybe only because they were never given a fair shot at that joy), it perpetuated a false narrative but they wouldn't get into that. their agenda for the day did not feature getting into a discussion about fucking barbie dolls. “plastic and perfect, that’s him.” they state with a shrug, raising a brow as he continued rambling, the rambling jumbles together at this point but at least it was drifting away from the plastic, that was a relief. though that jumbling makes the wolf’s brows burrow in confusion. “wait, so you were gigabrained enough to realize the shirt was backwards but then you lost those same cells tripping over your own two feet?” she could picture that scene already, him falling flat on his face and those who witnessed burst with laughter or attempt to snicker it. they know how people are, they’d laugh first and foremost or maybe it was just her lack of faith in people to automatically assume the worst. but why wouldn’t they? this kid lacked a back bone and it was written all over him. “ ⸺ just how many times have you gotten your ass kicked out of curiosity?”

hair tied back in a messy bun, flecks of paint all over her oversized sweater and garfield pajamas pants, a mis-matched pair of socks with white fluffy slippers, suffice to say, solara was the definition of disheveled. growing desperate, she went for a walk to clear her mind which was an impossible task. not even thinking about where she was going or even the way she looked, she just strolled her way through town with its inhabitants turning their attention toward the clash of colors. “hey you,” solara greeted the other person as if they were her best friend, trying to blink the tiredness away. “if you can find a frying pan in this friggin’ wonderful world we call outside, i’d totally pay you to knock me out. i’ve been up for uuuuhhhh…” furrowing her eyebrows, she tried to think back to the last time she had slept. “seventy seven… hours. i think. maybe it’s been eighty.. ish? god i don’t even know. time is like… a fleeting concept or whatever.”
the night had been a slow paced one, things were easing down, less harassment at the station - things were becoming semi normal once again. ashwick was reigning in its sense of peace yet again or trying to anyways. the town was already stained, there wasn’t enough good press to take that away, it had become a part of the town now, the deaths but for now, people were at ease. he could relax a bit more, take more breaks to himself which included a late night walk of his own when his attention was caught, a female disheveled to hell and when she speaks, he understands why. “can’t say i can help you out with that but near eighty hours? that’s almost three days.” yes, she was probably more than aware of it, having to be the one to suffer through it but it doesn’t stop him from showing a concern even if he didn’t know her. “i’d hope this isn’t a common occurrence.”

nodding, alan gave the bag another quick examination. resisting the urge to sniff. don’t do it. don’t sniff. don’t look weirder than you already are. as far as he could tell, there was nothing out of the ordinary about them. just some cookies, as she said, that she had probably gotten DOWN THE STREET. utterly unremarkable, save for the fact that she had decided to give them out to him—after, questionably enough, all but insulting him. maybe she hadn’t meant it. after all, despite his best attempts otherwise, he was weird.
“i guess not,” he admitted, shrugging a shoulder. slowly, he pulled one of the cookies out of the bag and chanced a bite. when he didn’t immediately EXPLODE into confetti or transform into a toad, he chanced another. they were pretty good, all things considered. “where did you say you got them?” he asked, halfway through a mouthful. realizing too late that he shouldn’t talk with his mouth full.
the wolf keeps her focus to her keyboard, whether he wanted to eat them or not was on him. if he didn’t as she said, she’d just trash them even if she didn’t like the idea of wasting perfectly good food no matter how fulfilling (or not fulfilling) they were.
she looks up with a curious look when he asks, where did you say you got them from? as if he were doubting her truthfulness? as if she’d actually be lying about it or maybe he was one of those who had the memory of a goldfish. she had hoped it was the latter because if not... that was just insulting. “fundraiser.... down the street.” now the question came to mind: would he ask what kind of fundraiser it was? she didn’t know. she’s aware how bad it sounds, to not give mind to anything eventful but why should she? it held no benefit to her and so, she didn’t waste her time on it so she’ll take the extra step to dodge that possible question, “why, are they ass?"

Sometimes Danny forgot that not everyone in Ashwick actually grew up there, and were there since they were kids. Alas, he didn’t notice any ire in Rocky’s expression and just smiled when they said cool. At the mention of dough, Danny blinked. “Oh, well, they sometimes bring some sweets for us, but–” Yeah, it just hit him. “… You mean money, got it, uh,” he breathed, rubbing the back of his neck and blushing madly again. “Ah, no. It’s just volunteer work. We don’t get paid for it. Helping out the community is enough for me.”
that’s even more mega lame, she thinks but refrains. she doesn’t get it nor would she probably ever would; rocky was more of one for all and all for none kind’ve person. it logically made no sense her when there was no benefit. at least get something out of it? small towns... she should’ve really stuck to the bigger cities. things seemingly made more sense there (there, where was there? everywhere. rocky has seen the underbellies of several lively cities). “you realize how...” she trails off, trying to find the right word. fake... yes, that was it. fake was the right word here. “... weird that sounds right? makes you sound all ken doll like.”

“Not to an unseeing eye like yours, no.” Chase tenses, her whole body rigid as she holds onto the bottle of wine, as if it would somehow determine her fate. It would certainly determine her stability for a while, and she has an awful feeling that somehow, the woman in front of her, knows it. Clenching her jaw, Chase pushes the tears away, leaving her face hard to read, a mask she was always so good at wearing. “Control and public defeat are two very different things, Alvarze.” And there is a tone of warning, maybe even a challenge, hidden in those words. “Then again, I wouldn’t expect you to know that, of all people. Even the thought is hilarious.” Her temper was always something Chase knew she was known for, and at this point, the woman is proud. Why wouldn’t she be proud. “Don’t tell me that’s all you can do.”
“unseeing? amor, you aren’t very discreet.” she points out, rather gleefully. too gleeful to hide the faint smile to lips. chase wears it on sleeve, displaying it for the world to see, only those without a set of eyes would be blind to the distress the other witch so obviously was possessing. it didn’t particularly matter to tazeen nor did she care to know what turmoil the other witch was facing, she was getting a rise out of her by just barely breaking a sweat doing it, the reactions from the rise was definitely lifting her previously foul mood. “hm, no. however, unlike you, i’m not looking for a quarrel. though i will say, this is a side of a de’lamere i like. it’s bordering on vehement. things really going that bad for you?" you poor thing. “i suppose if things turn for the worse, you’ll at least have the company of the dead so be grateful. that’s more company than most people will have in their lifetime.”

Liking to keep busy, Ardemis had recently decided to take a part time gig as a pianist at the Red Diamond, usually during weekends but occasionally some weekday evenings if she had the time. The sound of the piano softly echoed through the bar from a comfy corner, it being more of a chill night compared to the bands that would usually be lighting up the stage. Ardemis played until the current song was over, looking up when she noticed someone near her. “Good evening,” Arde said, nodding toward the piano. “If you have any recommendations, please, let me know. I am taking requests as well.”
the red diamond since her time in ashwick had become a place to relax during the softer nights, one she could just enjoy a drink, watch as humans dancing with one another, the warmth of the other igniting each other’s spark, full of a life most take for granted. one maddie only wishes to see again but she’s content to revel in the solitude of a drink and some nice music. which especially caught her attention tonight as it was just nice to hear, more melodious tonight. madison can’t help but stand close to listen in its entirety, though her intention wasn’t to be overstepping. "i have plenty in mind,” she begins, a small smile forming to the crease of her lips. “you play really well. it’s beautiful actually.” she was sure she already knew she was talented but maddie wouldn’t let it past without complimenting her, it just wasn’t her style. “do you know rachmaninoff?”
