✍ Has new canon material ever forced you to adjust your headcanons?
I don’t think so? I mean, I do make headcanons based off of the canon material. Like, I’ll touch on something that has happened and change it to the way I thought it should go? For example, the Kanto episodes in SuMo. When Bulbasaur saw Ash again and just stuck to his side for the rest of the episode, I loved that so much that I wrote a headcanon about how Ash re-added Bulbasaur to his main team. There have been canon things in the past that I’ve just changed for the heck of it though, like Gligar. But I won’t get into that.
✦ Has your own interpretation changed from when you first began playing the character?
Oh, absolutely! When I first picked up Ash, I had a tendency to write him as his goofy canon eternally 10 year old self. But as time passed, I found that I wanted him to be just a teeny bit more mature, and also, it’s hard to write him as a 10 year old all the time lmfao. So now, I lean more toward writing him as a teenager, and he’s still goofy but just a little bit more mature. After everything he’s been through, you can’t tell me that he hasn’t gotten smarter and learned something from his experiences.

Hmm, I like to think that Ash having a cell phone is either a blessing or a curse. On one hand, he’s a lot easier to reach that way. On the other hand, Ash constantly breaks his phone. He needs a new one every few months probably. He’s just super reckless with it. Pikachu has probably accidentally fried it, he loses it, forgets it’s in his pocket and gets wet, etc. Idk, it’s just a little thing I thought about lmfao
