there are many things david can't say as an employee that's been at fe since the days of william and henry. that he can never admit to because he knows the truth of what happened.

he misses henry. he misses william.

he misses a time when things were simpler, and he could pretend not to see the rot.

       The  Unversed  Keyblader  crossed  his  arms,  mask  on  as  he  usually  did  whenever  there  was  a  possibility  for  combat.  However,  it  wasn't  as  though  he  was  worried  for  either  of  this.  This  time,  it  was  a  mix  of  needing  to  hide  his  JUDGEMENT  from  her,  as  well  as  knowing  the  repercussions  of  calling  her  stupid.

she punched him lightly on the shoulder for the comment. there was bound to be danger wherever they went, and there were always people that would need help. and she would always try to help them. even if it got them into bad situations just as many times.

"afraid we won't get out of it this time?"

handing over the rift. she knew better, she hadn't been so deep in the journal all summer, she hadn't already dealt with bill's possession, just to make that same mistake all over again. but she did, and she's regretted it from the moment it left her hands.

she was upset, heartbroken, and not just at the idea that things wouldn't be what she wanted for the future. she'd spent her summer focused so hard on the journal, on solving it with her brother, and she just didn't seem able to properly connect with ford.

that he and dipper seemed to fall in together so easily that there was even a chance she'd end up going back to california alone... hurt. because she didn't think she'd have given that the time of day if she was offered it.

but... maybe in another world where she was, saying yes to that offer was her biggest regret.

she didn't use to be, and in some ways she's still not. she's confident in her appearance. she's confident in her friendships, but she used to be confident in her own strength in a way that she isn't anymore.

she knows she's strong. she does. but she also feels that she'll never actually be strong enough to be where she wants to be. all the people she's aiming to stand shoulder to shoulder with are - in her eyes - still leagues stronger than her, and continue to improve at the same rate she does.

her goalpost for being strong keeps moving, and it's really starting to undercut her in most cases. it's a little different when she's with Vanitas in post-KH:MoM era threads because the way the two of them go head to head with each other has helped bolster that sense of her own strength.

but since she compares herself so much to sora and riku now, the difference in physical strength keeps hitting her in a way it never did when they were younger, and she was happily running with them - even if she was always lagging behind.

excluding all the canon heartbreak, yes. i'd say so. prior to the archives.

now, was it someone meaning to break his heart? probably not. martin blackwood is the king of having issues and saying nothing about them. he's definitely had feelings for people before, and strong ones. but he's not one to go after what he wants because he either doesn't think he deserves it, or that he's incapable of being loved.

so he channels the heartbreak that never was into poetry. bad poetry. terrible poetry. and then he boxes up the heartbreak and files it away with the rest of it, puts on a kettle and a smile, and moves on.

love isn't made for a man like him, and he's... fine. right?

romantically, not exactly. he's had relationships, but they've always more fizzled out than ended dramatically. he's always loved his job more than almost anything else - not for the work, but for the characters.

platonically yes. when his daughter loosely cut ties with him for the same reason, it crushed him. but he also knew it was probably safer for her to be with her mother instead. he loves copellia with all his heart, but the man he's become working for fazbear entertainment isn't the kind of man she deserves to have as her father.

so he more or less has let her go. he checks in with her when he can, mostly around holidays and her birthday. she sends him a text on father's day.

but it breaks his heart if he spends a little too long thinking about what could have been if he were a different kind of person, if he wasn't up to his elbows in fazbear's dirty laundry.

she does. despite everything, she does. she's seen it in her fellow princesses of heart. she's seen it in her parents. she knows it's real because it has to be for everything they fight for to make sense.

but she also knows that you don't just get to have one. a happy ending takes work. she just wishes hers wasn't so hard to achieve, that every time she's thought she got it, it wasn't stolen away from her. from sora. from riku.

she hopes that the rest of the heroes of light get to have their happy ending now that everything is said and done. she hopes that of all of them, it's only her and her boys that are the ones still fighting for their personal peace and lasting happiness.

because everyone deserves to have their happy ending.
