it would be just their luck that the wind would pushing against them violently, causing the process of opening up the door somewhat difficult. he didn’t realize how tall this building actually was until he was out of it.

and that someone was probably not going to just let them go without a fight. great. why couldn’t he be sent to find someone who had no strings attached? just once.
she slipped through the door, arms coming up to shield her eyes from the wind. it wasn't a perfect first excursion outdoors, but she had long since stopped expecting perfect. she continued to push against the wind, climbing the statue that had held her captive for so long. it was bizarre being outside of it.
"whoever they were, i'm glad you came to find me. i don't think i would have ever gotten out without you."
she turned over her shoulder to look at him, but her eyes slipped past him, over his shoulder, at the glittering figure of her only companion. eyes widening, she pointed, her other hand scrambling to grab her rescuer and pull him up the statue.

“hm i don’t know. i didn’t notice anything when i stumbled in this morning but then again it was 3 and i was drunk.”

Derek grabs the paper from her and places it on top of the pile. The concerned look on Allison’s face isn’t something Derek cares much for. He’s had various students before give him the same look, it doesn’t really affect him as much. And the grading commnet, which would be some sort of sucking up coming from another student, isn’t something he cares to hear. ”It was just very bland. Boring. One note. It didn’t capture my interest at all. You did good in expressing your idea. It’s a free topic, you wrote about something that you love to do but the passion behind your hobby just isn’t there. You went more technical instead of personal. You said that archery is something you grew up with and that your father taught you. If it runs in the family then talk about that. Or talk about what made you want to do the sport and not go against family tradition. Why is this your calling? That’s why you got a B. Allison, you’re a talented writer. I’ve seen the passion behind it before but you sort flaked on this paper.”
Allison leans back as he looks over her paper, lips pursing as she waits for his explanation. It comes quickly, and fluidly, and although she'd been prepared to argue whatever he threw at her, he -- well, he has a point. She presses her lips together, gaze dropping momentarily as she takes in what he said. She hadn't put any heart into it, as he said. It was hard for her to talk about archery without sounding technical - it was the only way she knew how to approach the topic. Allison had picked archery for her free write paper because she knew she could write about the technical side, but could she talk about why she loved it? Did she? Or did she just enjoy it because it was the first thing she had been successful in? "I --- didn't think about it that way, Mr. Hale."
