░░░░░░ ☾ serena’s always been one to leap before she looks. maybe it’s just that she’s tired of relearning songs that makes her think of someone else; that sometimes she hears a song that brings her back to lydia’s bedroom, or secret beach trips, or presents that are far too expensive to be just gifts. maybe she’s just acting on impulse. maybe it’s muscle memory to end up back on lydia’s doorstep, waiting out in the cold for a girl who might not even answer her knock.

IT’S WHAT THEY ALL WANT, or at least as far as she can see. she hasn’t been given any reason to see otherwise ----- she hasn’t seen any proof that PEOPLE LIKE LYDIA want people like tamora to survive, to live PEACEFULLY ( they can’t if they’re surrounded by creatures of a different kind, the kind who who know such violence and darkness. ) ❝ i’ve already BEEN HURT, ❞ she shoots back, tone angry yet shaking with a fear that she’s found it difficult to hide now that everything is starting to boil over. ❝ i survived ---- but what about the people who didn’t? what about all of those people who have already lost their lives because of people like you? ❞ that’s what she’s really worried about ---- protecting everyone else. they can’t stay safe if the threats are still here.

“ i hate the word victim--don’t you? ” her eyes are glued to the table, pale blue finger nails tapping against the outside of her coffee cup. what she was failing to tell lydia was that she didn’t just had the word victim--she hated what it implied. weakness. being destroyed by someone stronger than you. for her, it meant strength. enough strength to endure what she endured, and then some.

some secrets from those days she was referencing were still buried deep in her thoughts; some of which she hoped would never come out.
