DEFEAT COLOURED HER EXPRESSION. so clearly written across her face, he decided it was a shade all too pale and DISTASTEFUL for him; scarlet evans was meant for greatness far beyond what HE deserved, and though scorp had entirely NO idea what he could do to rid her of this insanity, he found himself determined to DO IT anyway. he hadn’t ever heard crying quite like THIS─────── it was a sound that TREMBLED through flesh and bone, leaving nothing but a senseless PAIN in its wake that threatened ANGER to erupt. and yet, every ounce of it fizzled out of existence the more he stared at his son, so terribly innocent and utterly fascinating in his. . . beauty. mesmerised by him, scorpius could do nothing else for a moment but APPRECIATE him, despite the constant wailing that would not cease.
‘ THOMAS EVANS. . . MALFOY. ’ he tested it on his tongue, slowly swaying his arms side to side, even if a little awkwardly as every muscle TENSED at the lack of force he used. with limbs so attuned to BATTLE, something so fragile and easily breakable felt. . . UNSAFE in his arms. scorpius was capable of ATROCITIES─────── a rising wave of insecurity, DOUBT and fear sought to SUFFOCATE him. he’s not sure if he’d ever realise what saved him, but it was scarlet evans who GROUNDED him with her steady VOICE, with eyes so fiercely emerald and ready to defy him, even if she was BREAKING right in front of him. it was her stories of their child, told with such pride that even in moments of doubt, scorpius couldn’t help the slight tilt of his lips as he glanced back up at her.
DOUBT QUICKLY BECAME SHAME. the feeling was as unfamiliar to him as the sight of her SUBDUING the anger that fit so beautifully around her skin, like a red glow that constantly TORMENTED him, and yet set him alight with a fire that BEGGED to be felt in all its fervour. as if on muscle memory alone, scorpius lowered his cheek against thomas’ forehead. ICE met with a fevered heat that warmed him immediately─────── and perhaps it was the crying that had driven him past insanity, but HONESTY slipped through his lips. ‘ because i was AFRAID. ’ cerulean meets emerald for a single second as he SWALLOWS down the bitter taste of truth with a gulp. ‘ -don’t ask me, evans. ’ there was a PLEADING gleam in his eyes; scorpius wasn’t sure he’d know the answer to what she might ask: why were you afraid?
TRUTHFULLY, HE WASN’T SURE. but for a brief moment, he could swear he felt his son snuggling in his hold, his tiny fingers tapping against scorp’s shirt as if to COMFORT him from the raging storm inside his chest. ‘ there was a BOY, once upon a time, who’d been born into a family with a TERRIBLE last name known throughout the world. ’ a hesitant hand grazed along warm chubby cheeks, scorp’s lips lifting into a small smile as he attempted a feat he’d watched his own MOTHER accomplish throughout the years: he told a STORY. ‘ -this boy, from the moment he took his very FIRST breath, already had his whole life decided for him. ’ scorp held thomas’ gaze, letting the words roll from his tongue albeit STORYTELLING was a skill best left to the WOMEN of his family.
‘ HE WAS MEANT TO RESTORE HIS FAMILY NAME. ’ he began pacing very slowly around the room, occasionally bringing his lips to his son’s forehead as though he was unable to resist LOVING him. ‘ this boy spent every day working to make his family PROUD. he looked after his sister, who was sometimes very ill, and eventually, had to take care of his mother when she got sick. he had a REPUTATION to save, a commitment to FAMILY that meant sacrificing things he wanted. ’ he couldn’t be sure, but the crying seemed to slowly FADE, wide eyes peering up at scorp curiously─────── but perhaps NOT. perhaps he had merely fallen into his own tale. ‘ ─PEOPLE he loved. ’ he spares scarlet a GLANCE, painfully aware of her presence for his VULNERABILITY, UTTER HUMILIATION; all for his son.
TO HELL WITH IT ALL, FUCK IT. scorp continued his attempt at SOOTHING the child burrowed in his hold, continued to mask hidden CONFESSIONS as he told his story with a watchful gaze on HER. ‘ he wasn’t a HERO, but he tried his best to fight for the things that mattered to him. he wanted to fulfil his DUTY without consequence, but he ended up wanting to make a choice that would change his family’s LEGACY forever, all because of BLOOD. ’ he paused, and a serene SILENCE echoed loudly around him─────── was he simply imagining it? scorp might have sought for confirmation if he hadn’t been too occupied with MARVELLING in it, taking it as a chance to take in all that was scarlet evans; MESS that she was, there was a striking FIRE that made her ALL he could see.
' i’m NOT SURE how the story ends yet. ’ he scoffs WRYLY, jaw squaring. scorpius FACES her. ‘ ─────but i would like a CHANCE TO FIND OUT. ’
