steve sat down across from nat as he read through the mission briefing “well, it’s not the worst plan i’ve seen recently.” he chortled before pulling the velvet box that they’d given him out of his pocket, opening it to look at the rings “hmmm, the ruby is nice.” sliding the box over to her “ready to be fake married for a few weeks?”

steve looked at the footage another time before sliding the tablet over to tony “i think you might need to get queens on decaf. he’s vibrating on the ceiling of the training room... again.” he let out a small sigh “that’s the third time this week tony.”

Bucky was grateful to have such a great best friend, he’d stood by his side more then anyone in his life even through everything he’d done. In this strange world that they’d both been thrown into it was often hard finding a place where they fit but together things always seemed like no time passed at all. So when he noticed the waitress at the dinner obviously dropping hints that the other was just missing he had to lay into him. “That I will never be use too, How in the hell did you get game while I was gone? That’s like the third girl to try flirting with you. I’m starting to get a offense what I’m not pretty enough to be yours?”

steve couldn’t help but chuckle as he set down his mug of coffee “i don’t have game, that was always your thing pal.” a small smirk on his lips. the sheer normalcy of this, eating with his best pal in a diner ( while not inspired by the decade they grew up in, it was still retro enough to give the feeling of home ) “if you think this is bad you should have seen what some of the chorus girls were like when the state department had me selling bonds... they were very handsy.” the blonde explained “pal, we’re too pretty to be together. can you imagine the outcry if we started dating? hearts everywhere would be broken.” not that steve would be opposed to it- dating bucky -but there was someone else that steve had been dancing around for too long now.

Tony glanced over at Steve, tilting his head. “Hey, Capsicle,” he said. He shrugged. “Oh, yeah, I’m fine. Got a filtration system in here.” He knocked on the temple of his helmet with a gaunlented fist. “I was heading to the Tower to set up a triage unit for people in the area. Hand out air filtration masks, all that fun stuff. You wanna help? Could use those burly shoulders of yours hauling boxes.” Of course, he had plenty of nanobots who would do the same job, but frankly, they did not have as nice of a butt as Steve. And he knew Steve liked to be involved in heroic efforts as much as possible.

steve was glad for the gas mask, it hid the slightly dopey grin that formed on his face at hearing the old nickname from tony. “i figured. you probably got air conditioning and that satellite radio stuff too.” he laughed, relaxing slightly at knowing that tony was okay. “ahh! you’re just glad to see me for my muscles, i see how it is.” the blonde joked while moving closer to tony, placing a hand on his shoulder and speaking seriously “whatever you need tony.”

Tony had been on patrol when the fear toxin bombs started going off, zooming above the clouds of noxious toxin, able to see with an eagle’s eye the entire shit-storm that commenced almost immediately. He landed on the pavement, interrupting the guy trying to force his way into a local jewelry store. “Oh hey, buddy, what are you afraid of?” he said. “Missing out on that gorgeous diamond in the window? I get it, FOMO is real.” He held out his arm, a small cylinder appearing at the base of his wrist. “Now, I’m getting on in years, so I can’t really remember if this is a teeny tiny, super powerful torpedo, or just a little bitty Taser. Do you wanna test–” But the man was already taking off, running so fast he was kicking up clouds of dust that had settled on the pavement as a result of the destruction around them. “Oh, okay, guess not.” He looked around as he heard footsteps approach. “How are you doing? Need any help?”

steve had been getting groceries when the gas started spreading through the city, his luck kicking in that he ended up in an area that wasn’t full of the fear toxin. he’d been able to get a mask and get to the tower relatively quickly and get out on the streets to help people. his shield was strapped to his arm as he ran through the streets of gotham, nerves rising when he saw the red and gold of tony’s suit. steve knew that the suit would be able to filter out the gas but he couldn’t help but be worried for a moment, knowing he wouldn’t be able to fight tony again. “i was just about to ask you the same thing tony. you all good?”

steve chuckled at the speedsters antics “don’t you think i’m a bit old for you?” the blonde looked back down at the mission reports he’d been asked to look over “besides, i’m not sure if wanda would appreciate that.” steve didn’t know all the slang kids these days used, but he knew what snack meant.

the blonde let out a small sigh, at least some things never change “what? did you expect me to give you dirty river water? i’m insulted.” he rolled his eyes before grabbing one of those fancy bottles of water that he remembered seeing tony drink once or twice, opening it before setting it down to let tony decide if he wanted it or not “too much or too little? that’s one thing i still can’t seem to get the hang of.”
