I'm making my way through The Apothecary Diaries and I have thoughts:

Lakan gives me Otto Hightower vibes. If MaoMao were raised as a noble lady, her dad would definitely be manipulating her situation like Otto did with Alicent. MaoMao would be smarter about it though.

MaoMao needs to start pulling rank more. Girl has multiple titles but still things of herself as a lowly maid servant. Even though she hates her father, she is an unofficial lady of the La family. I don't think Lakan would object to her using their family name. ALSO she is technically the consort of the Moon Prince, who is heir while the Emperor has no infant sons. We know their relationship isn't like that but to everyone else MaoMao lives in the crowned prince's estate after he bought her out from one of the high level pleasure houses... That's screams courtesan to everyone else at the palace.

I know she probably won't do either since she's MaoMao and is oblivious but a girl can still dream.

Spending international women's day watching magical women rip each other apart and look amazing doing it, ginger sapphics making out, a reluctant alliance between the most repressed woman (witch) you've ever seen and her archenemy who's the hottest woman (also a witch) you've ever seen. In general women with lots of spears. Lesbians pining for each other across a city. At least two once and future queens. Powerful women, insane women, scheming women. Women who can and will kill you given half a chance and women you would swear your allegiance to and follow to the ends of the earth. Could not have asked for more truly.
