If for once she were to do what she wanted rather than do what she thought she should, she wouldnāt be in the bar at all. Sheād be curled up at home with a new book expanding on her already vast knowledge. Except she never had lived solely for self satisfaction and that incessant need to excel of hers meant that she tended to shun all forms of self indulgence. Somewhat ironically, she considered there to be nothing more indulgent than drinking alone in a bar ( not that she intended to be alone for long ) but then again, she considered this far more work than simply pleasure. As far as the rest of the world was concerned, however, she seemed as though she had all the time in the world for a leisurely drink after work. Something of a feat considering she had never considered time a commodity to waste.Ā
With her elbows propped on top of the bar lightly and her chin resting on her palm just so, Katarina was quite sure she struck a perfect image of someone entirely relaxed and unhurried. Her posture was still somewhat formal: shoulders rolled back and ankles crossed daintily when old habits died hard. But the soft smile she let hover on her lips as she waited to be served was just enough to make her seem that little bit more approachable. From the rise in noise she suspected that the bar was getting fuller and as someone else approached the bar, a gentle clearing of her throat was given to win their attention. āThereās a seat here if youād like it.ā Incline of her head was given to the seat that was tucked away next to her.
Warm smile danced over her lips, brightening as the bartender approached. āAnd if so, your luck just happens to be in. Can I get you a drink?ā
itās not usual for the man to choose to go to the bar without any company. thereās something utterly terrifying in appearing lonely in the middle of the crowds and eric doesnāt like carrying the heavy weight of fear. he always prefers the comfortable - the easy. whenever the most comfortable isnāt available, he weighs in the pros and cons of each situation. that, or he decides to just act on a whim. this, right here, is a whim no doubt. his husband wonāt be able to join him soon tonight and eric wants to drown this feeling of being the second choice in the nearest glass of booze. he knows itās irrational and that heās a forty year old man acting spoiled, but heāll rather find a remedy than censor himself for feelings he doesnāt have control over.
regret floods him as soon as he steps foot on the crowded bar. a deep sense of isolation sets within his gut, knowing he doesnāt quite belong in this scene. heās probably years older to fit this scene. too old, too alone and too married to fit this scene, to be more exact. thereās a brief pause in his step as he calculates what would be more humiliating: leaving or staying. rosales remembers the booze. staying seems to be worth it.
he approaches the bar, eyeing the row of people occupying the stools. the man is most grateful when the girl - why does she seem familiar? - offer him a seat. eric smiles at her, nodding with his head as a way to excuse himself.
āthank you,ā the man says, a friendly smile on his lips. eric blinks, thinking it wouldnāt be fair to explore the girl out of her money when it comes to the drink. yet, it seems unpolite to turn it down. āsure. only if i can get you one next.ā
