“The blue berries!” Andrew exclaimed. “That’s what was suppose to make it blue. It’s got a few different fruits in there. So at least we know that this monster looking drink is healthy.” he glanced back down at the drink, contemplating on whether or not to drink it. “I’ll pass. If you’re not going to drink it, then the only good place for it, is the sink.”

“The blueberries, of course,” she covered her mouth to keep a string of giggles at bay though she wasn’t terribly successful. “Is nutella healty?” She quizzed, eyebrow raised. “And the chocolate chip cookie, don’t forget that. Oh-- wait, you’re not even a little bit curious?”

Luna made room for Ruby and it was an immediate relief having another person around someone who she actually care about it was comforting even in the short time together. Running a hand through her hair she only shrugged trying to find the right words to say but everything seemed to want to come out as a jumbled mess. “I guess” she said picking at her red sweater “I feel a bit lost honestly”. She sighed and it felt like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders. “He got so mad and I understand why I should have told him but he just left and I don’t know what happened to all the promises we made and like yeah my fault its just I didn’t know how or when to tell him, I promise i wasn’t trying to be awful”.

All she could do was sit quietly and listen. She'd always been good at that, listening. Ruby placed her hand in Luna's, in what she could only hope was a gesture of comfort, and gave a squeeze, unsure of what exactly the girl was  going through. "You're not awful, Luna-- don't think that about yourself." She turned to face her, eyes scanning her face as if it would tell her something about where the girl was at. "I think it's understandable to feel a bit lost honestly, have you maybe thought about talking to someone about it? Like--" she shook her head, unsure of what she was trying to get to. "I dunno, I think my brother's mostly hurt that you couldn't come to him you know? I don't think it makes you awful at all," She bit her lip. "He loves you regardless, you know? It's not easy to find out I reckon."

Logan only shook his head at both the woman, cross his arms. “You’re trash, it’s saddening really.” He said to his mother, not even having enough energy in his body to fight with her. He huffed a little and looked at Ruby as she talked. Glancing back at the other and back to her. “I- yeah, maybe that would be best.”

There was a tiny, fleeting moment where Ruby felt almost proud at the words that Logan had just used. Something about him standing up for himself brought the smallest of smiles to her face, brief moment of amusement. Hand still in his she pulled him up, nodded once to the woman and tugged him out of the house as quickly as possible. When they were out on the sidewalk again, she turned  to face him and quickly wrapped her arms around him. "Are you alright?" Her voice was muffled against Logan's shoulder, though she pulled back quickly enough. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to pull you out so fast but Logan she's awful."

Ruby was far too good to Blue sometimes, he knew that they were best friends and they were supposed to do anything for each other, but sometimes he truly did wonder what he did to deserve her as a friend. She was the kind of friend people wrote about in stories or you saw on shows and in movies that people always wanted but knew it was unrealistic. Blue was lucky to have her. “Yeah, agreed. Can’t always have it easy, can we?” He concluded, feeling much more at ease with Ruby’s hand in his. He gave it a little squeeze, her words sending warmth through him. “I know. You’re an angel, Ru.” He said honestly, kissing her on the top of the head, “I just hate the idea of worrying you. Or being a burden, you take everything so personally, I don’t ever want to bring you down.”

"What sorta lives d'you think we'd be leadin' if we didn't have hardships to deal with?" The question was a strange mixture between genuine and rhetorical, Ruby walked with her eyes on the sidewalk, her thumb on the outside of Blue's palm tracing circles. "I mean-- I think if utopia existed we'd all be almost robotic, hm? Things like this make us human." Her face heated at his compliment, shaking her head in vehement denial. "You never have to thank me for anything, Blue, I'll always take care of you when you need me, besides you'd do the same for me. You have done the same for me, remember? You were there for me at my lowest I think." There was humor and amusement in her voice as she remembered the time a little better now than when she was going through it. "You're not a burden." Her voice was firm and reassuring, as if to ensure he know that she meant it and there would be no arguments behind it. It didn't take too long to reach the Kappa Gamma house and within minutes she had tea in thermoses for the both of them. "C'mon, lets try and forget all your troubles even if it's just for a little while."

“What? Oh, yeah, it’s fine -” Rocky said quickly, realizing that he must’ve really been freaking Ruby out. She looked like he just told her someone in the family had died. He really couldn’t believe he was even getting this worked up over it, but he couldn’t help it. “It’s nothing bad, it’s good I think, actually, it’s just…” He ran a hand through his hair, sighing loudly, honestly just being dramatic. He was just anxious about the whole thing. “There’s this girl - I really like her. Like like. Do you know Zoe Rhee? It’s her, I like like her.”

Perplexed. She was utterly perplexed. She opened her mouth to speak before closing it quickly. Once. Twice. Three times before the only response was to burst into giggles because that was the last thing she'd expected. "Oh my god, Rocky," hand to her chest. "I thought someone had died or someone had been hurt and your emergency is that--" she scrunched her nose though her head shook with sense of relief. "Zoe?" she squealed, clapping a hand over her mouth because the girl didn't live all that far away from her after all. "Of course I know her, we're in the same house, she lives on this floor." And then, she smiled at him, goofy with that I can't believe you told me this expression clearly taking over. "That's really sweet, that's-- does she um--" she closed one eye in mock concentration. "does she like like you,too?"

Ruby had always been good with taking care of Blue when he was upset, she was just as gentle and loving as he was, maybe even more so. She knew how to protect him and comfort him, somehow knew everything he needed even if he didn’t. It was her superpower, but he knew this, she’d always been a bit of a hero to him. He already felt better just from the quick hug the two shared and hardly noticed when she’d quickly brought him to his feet. For the first time in a while he didn’t feel like his legs were going to give out under him. “I didn’t mean to just completely forget about my well being.” When he said it he’d meant it as a joke, but Blue genuinely felt like Ruby deserved an apology. It wasn’t like she wasn’t already constantly worrying about her friends, he hated the idea of making it worse. “That sounds nice. But I wanna be little spoon.” He said with a shaky grin, leaning into her touch.

Seeing her best friend, the actual sunshine in her life look like his light had been put out pained her. Ruby wanted nothing more than to wrap him up in a blanket and take care of him until she no longer could. Keep him company for good until he didn't need that anymore, she wanted to be there for him, be everything for him because she fervently believed that he deserved all the good in the world and none of what he was going through. "We never do," she nodded once, small smile playing at her lips. "We're our own worst enemies sometimes, don't you reckon?" There was a small relief in hearing that he could at least make light of things at a  time like this. "You can always be the little spoon if you want," she told him, her fingers lacing with his in a comfortable, we've done this a million times, sort of gesture. "You know anytime you're feeling like this you can come to me, right? If you wanna talk or-- even if you don't, even if you just want someone to sit in the quiet with you, I know that-- times like these are when we feel the loneliest, I just want you to always remember I'm here for you."

“Sorry, sorry,” he mumbled quickly when he saw how startled Ruby was. He hadn’t even thought about warning her, he probably needed to chill out himself. “It’s just - okay, listen, whatever I tell you you can’t tell anyone, okay? No one. Not a soul. Promise me.” He said, holding out his finger for a pinky promise. He’d die before doing this to anyone else, but it was Ruby and they’d been making pinky promises to each other since they could talk.

The more he spoke the more concerned she became, eyes going wide and mouth parting. At this point she was convinced something was seriously wrong even with the lighthearted gesture of the pinky promise she was preparing herself for the worst. "You know I won't but you're worrying me," she linked pinkies with his, silly as it was it really did take her back to when they were seven and pushing each other on swings. "What's going on, please tell me everything's alright?"

Luna stared at the wall of her bedroom as she laid in bed having not moved from it in a few days neglecting her school work and everything in between. It was that familiar numbing sensation that took over her body starting at her toes until her entire being was numb. Clutching a pillow up to her stomach she half watched the tv show running from her laptop the sound was just noise to help her feel a little alone. Maybe it would be the beginning of the end maybe all good things did come to an end more like a crashing halt. “Its open” she mumbled barely hearing the knock but assuming it was one of the sister needing something she sat up a little taking a sip from the tall water bottle to wet her mouth. “Ruby” it was obvious shock at her now sister-in law “hey, what are you doing here? Is everything okay? I guess you heard right?” she laughed emptily as she closed her laptop.

Truthfully, she'd been avoiding her. Though Luna had stuck by her side during the Byron ordeal, she hadn't been sure how to approach her after finding out what she had. Not that she wasn't on her side as well, the situation in general was just so complicated that it made her nervous. But this was her sister now. Not that she hadn't always been family, as far as she could recall the Fairchilds had, and she had to come talk to her. Offer moral support at least. "Hey," she gave her a small, tentative smile, hoping to seem friendly as she crawled into bed with her. "Everything's good, yeah, I just wanted to see-- how you were doing?" She bit her lip and nodded as her fingers thread together. "Yeah, uh-- Xavi told me."

He was used to any harsh words that came out his mother’s mouth. But right now all he wanted to do was back out and go back ten cigarettes. Nicotine always calmed him down. “I raised him, honey. I know his birthday and I know how he acts. Look at him covered in tattoos. How are you going to get anywhere in life covered in that?” She asked as she was starting directly at her son, not even noting Ruby along in this. “I’m not gonna comment on the tattoo line, but it’s funny because you sat on your ass the entire time I was in high school, but whatever, we had that talk already.”

The male only huffed as he leaned over the couch, picking up a small bag. “You’re doing coke now? Fucking christ. “ He noted as Ruby went on talking to his mother. He was going to stop her. She had more of a spine right now than he did. Sure, he’s said some things before to his own mother, but right now he was attempting the calm talk. “I’ll speak to Logan how I please. He doesn’t come to see me. He doesn’t call ever. You could have been a better son, Logan. Phil left because he had another child with another woman, it was pretty clear. Don’t put your nose where it doesn’t belong.” She scoffed and Logan opened his mouth to say something back to her, but he looked at Ruby, a small shrug residing on his shoulders at her question. 

The woman's words pained her. Needle in her chest, heavy shoulders, she wanted to cry, she wanted to take Logan and run off with him because god he didn't deserve it, he didn't deserve it at all and this woman, this woman who had the nerve to call herself his mother, was absolutely unbelievable."Knowing his birthday doesn't mean anything, you don’t really know him at all." she said simply, not wanting to engage in any more arguments, it was unlike her to do so, she just couldn't help herself. 

Still, there were words at the tip of her tongue, each and every time the woman spoke she wanted to retaliate for him, it took the most self control imaginable not to do so and as she finished, her own eyes were wide at the nerve that this woman had, she just grabbed his hand. "Maybe we should go, all she's going to do is talk to you like you're nothing, Logan, you don't deserve that, look at her-- she doesn't even care about herself, you're better than this."

He didn’t move when she wrapped her arms around him but he did try and shield some of his face with his hand because he didn’t like the idea of her seeing him cry even if it was obvious that he was by the way his body shuddered. He’d kept it all in throughout his argument with Luna just before, and maybe it wasn’t the best idea for him to have left her like that but he needed a moment to collect everything he’d just been told and process it. “Yeah she’s.. she’s sure.” He nodded once, looking over her shoulder as he let out a shaky breath. “I didn’t even know I wanted kids.. until I realised I couldn’t have any.” He shook his head, moving away to sit at the edge of her bed. “We had a scare a while ago and she found out then that it was pretty much impossible. I found out about it just then… am I wrong to be mad?” 

This was, not a situation that Ruby knew how to handle. Considering herself a good listener and someone who was always there for the people she cared about was one thing,she'd always be that, especially to her older brother who'd been through everything for her, but this one-- well it was tricky and she felt as if she had to tread with caution. "But that doesn't mean you can't be a dad, Xav it just means," but she didn't know what it meant, whether he'd be keen on the idea of adopting or other methods, all she wanted was for him to feel better. "There are other ways," she joined him on the bed, hesitant because it had been weeks since they'd really, genuinely spoken to each other without fighting. "I don't think you're wrong in being angry, no, but I'm sure she didn't keep it from you to make you angry, that's-- it's a hard thing to find out."

“It only took half an hour because I was really trying to put together a good smoothie. I thought it was going to turn out a nice blue color and boy was I wrong. I can tell you it’s got a choc chip cookie in there somewhere. And a spoon of Nutella.” Andrew laughed. “I’ve done that before and yeah, I see your point. I’ll just pour it down the sink before I’m tempted to try and ruin someone else’s day with it.” he added– trying not to laugh again.

"I see," she pressed her lips together, her best attempt to stifle a laugh, but she failed miserably. "Well that explains the color," she tilted the glass around, watching almost in fascination as the chunky substance swirled around and then glanced up at Andrew. "Oh, no, don't waste it! What if it's good. I mean chocolate and banana mix well, right? I'm not sure about what was going to turn it blue but well, Why don't you try it then?"

As soon as Blue saw just who he ran into, he almost broke down right then and there. He always wanted to be around Ruby, someone that shined brighter than the sun in his eyes, but right now he was scared he was too fragile for her kindness. He sometimes refused to believe someone like Ruby could love him as much as she did. And yet, her gentle touch was exactly what he needed. Still he felt the beginnings of tears well up in his eyes, swallowing thickly as she questioned him gently. “I’m a mess, Ru.” He admitted, voice trembling slightly. “Everything just feels so wrong, I don’t know what to do. It doesn’t feel like this will ever pass.” Blue reached for the hand that Ruby had before carefully placed on Blue’s face, the obvious worry on her face killing him. He didn’t ever want to worry Ruby, her heart was too big. He squeezed her hand, placing a kiss onto her knuckles. “I-I’ll be okay, I’m sorry, I don’t want to worry you.” Blue blurted out quickly, wishing he could take back everything he’d said before.

Ask anyone and they would have told you that worrisome was Ruby's middle name. A permanent crease in the middle of her brow and a firm desire to make everyone she cared about happy, it was simultaneously a gift and a curse for her to focus on the well being of everyone else. Though that worried about her often told her to put herself first and while she'd been trying to heed that advice for once there was absolutely nothing that she wouldn't have done for Blue, to make sure that he was okay. She could feel her heart break as he spoke, her own lip quivered and as he pressed his lips to her hand she wanted to cry over the sweet boy who reciprocated what she was putting out. Here she was frantic and worried over him who'd just had his heart broken and he was making sure that she was okay. She closed the distance between them, wrapping her arms around him in a tight, protective hug, one that she wanted to say-- I won't let anything bad happen to you-- before she pulled back, letting her hands fall to his. "It's normal to feel that way you know? Like you'll never recover, but I promise you will, I really do. But you gotta take care of yourself." She helped him gather his things, bringing them both to their feet and wrapping an arm around him. "Were you going somewhere? What if we go back to my room and I'll make you some tea and we--- we take a nice nap? I think you need it."
