it wasn’t hard to tell that wyatt wasn’t taking this as seriously, simply winning at something they’d supposedly already settled. maybe he was a bit of a sore winner, but they’d always given each other a hard time. “it wasn’t a deal, i mean - i wouldn’t have made any deal if i had realized she was just as interested in me, it happens, ok?” there was a shrug of nonchalance, trying to defuse all while poking at his friend. “fuck me?” and before wyatt even had the chance to finish his thought, he felt the sting of bayou’s fist colliding with his face before he found himself stumbling back. a groan left him, allowing a few long seconds to pass before a narrowed gaze was on his long-time friend. “fuck you, dude! over a fucking girl?” wyatt was snapping, dismissing the throbbing in his cheek as the adrenaline began to kick in. there was a grunt the moment his body was slamming into bayou to knock the other male into the ground before he found himself on top and his own fist coming down hitting bayou square in the jaw. there wasn’t a single other time wyatt could recall them getting this angry, but as his free hand curled around the collar of his friends’ shirt while his other fist rose to prepare for another hit only to find himself hesitating. “do you really think beating the shit out of each other is going to be productive?” words half-shouted while quickly spit out, head shaking swiftly. “i don’t have to do it again - but if you’re going to continue to be fucking crazy like that…” warning the other with widened eyes, hoping some sort of voice of reason could prevent them from destroying their friendship just like that. 

"that’s fucking bullshit. you’re a cheat and it’s bullshit and you know it. you just wanted her to yourself and me out of the fucking way.” his tone is sharp and furious and there’s some part of him that’s stinging with hurt right down in the core of him, regret at not going for grace first and regret at allowing wyatt to treat him like this. “it’s like i’m not even your friend like i thought - i’m just some fucking dude in-between you and what you want.” bayou hits the ground hard and he’s still catching his breath when the fist hits his jaw hard, sending a shock of pain straight through his skull. “i think it’ll be productive in making me feel better about my best friend being a back stabbing douchebag,” he snaps before moving fast as he can, throwing a leg out and his body weight up to flip their positions so he’s on top, straddling the other man. “if anyone here is crazy, it’s you. i thought you weren’t some useless jackass. guess i was wrong.”

james listens with nervous curiosity, not sure what to expect from the younger woman’s insistence. clearly it’s no grand violent emergency but if something is wrong enough for her to approach him like this, he suspects he ought to listen. curiosity quickly turns to surprise when genevieve talks about his marriage ( to her sister no less ) with such distain. even if it’s truthful - which it most certainly is - it’s something entirely inappropriate for her to say and they both know it, but that’s nothing compared to what follows. “you’re offering yourself?” gaze flicks to the closed door behind her, tongue running across his lips for a brief moment before he pushes himself to standing with a sigh. is this some sort of trick? is she meant to test his loyalty to her sister? “and what precisely are you offering?” he knows, of course, but he wants to hear her say it out loud.

raised in the court she may have been, but a shield maiden she is as well and perhaps not the most gentle between the pair of them when ire strikes. "better they bear your social graces than mine. i fear i lack the grace and patience you have to deal with the dunledings.” eowyn is unbothered by any damage or scars left behind on her beloved other than wishing they had not happened at all. there are few that emerged from the war of the ring unscathed. her own sword arm will never have the strength it had before ( when the cold strikes, her grip often fails entirely but it is a small price to pay for the death of the witch king and the avenging of her uncle.) and if, perhaps, she feels the weight of war on her bones, she will simply be glad to be alive to feel it. “i should hope none of the elves hear you speak as such. i suspect they might take offense.” a soft joke as she presses into close, enjoying the familiar warm taste of his lips. “it went well. aldburg is thriving and expanding and they have welcomed any refugees with open arms. they made a request of more arms and help training a guard of their own and i already spoke to eomer about providing both. altogether a success and i am glad for it.”

"lots of people suck and i’m sorry. i guess if someone doesn’t really see you as a person, they’ll just be shitty about it instead of caring. that sucks.” a brief pause and a small, certain nod, as if he’d made his mind up about something. “i’ll kick their asses too. i’ll stick around and anyone wants to be rude, i’ll fight them.” once again, not wildly likely but the passion and intention was there and that’s what really counts when it comes to kai and his general dumbassery. “i can be that for you.” his voice is softer now, arms still wrapped around the other as he pulls back just enough to look up at them. if his gaze lingers on their lips a little longer than it should and his own lips press together in a flustered thought, oh well. “do you...think it would warm you up more if i...i mean, if you want, it’s just an idea but i think...” fingers curl and uncurl against their colder shape and a small, nervous laugh rolls out of him. “i mean we could - i guess, you and...me...it’d be hot - i mean warm, warmer, you know, if we...kiss? do you...maybe wanna give it a shot?”

the dinner conversation isn’t particularly boring, but it also isn’t particularly exciting either. danny is half listening, piping up occasionally when the attention turns to him, but otherwise his attention is somewhere else - right up until the moment he feels a hand on his thigh, far too close to his core to be an accidental brush. eyes widen for a flash and attention turns to the person seated to his side, though he tries to keep his expression level and not draw attention towards them as he freezes. “what are you doing?” a quick whisper with an edge of flustered panic, jaw tight as he thanks god for the low lighting concealing his flush.

the wine is bitter and not particularly pleasant on her tongue, but prim had stopped caring after she finished off the first bottle - low tolerance and no experience guaranteeing she was well drunk now into her second bottle. giggles fill the room and she feels on top of the world; partying and drinking and anything of that sort isn’t really something she ever does, but they’d begged so much she couldn’t help but give in. the wine drunk keeps her from noticing the door opening until it’s too late, eyes opening wide and bottle lowering from her lips as she spots them standing there.

idle gaze slides across the snack selection, picking up a couple before putting them back a couple seconds later. nothing is really calling to her, so she eventually gives up and grabs a glass bottle of coca-cola ( why not be a little fancy to celebrate her first solo road trip? ) before heading up to the counter. thoughts are elsewhere as she pays, inquiring about the bathroom and finding out dismally that it’s located outside on the back end of the small store. josie trudges out there with a sigh, annoyance and distraction only increased when she realizes it doesn’t close behind her. whatever, she’ll just do her business quick and get on with the trip.
