it’s not as though ava doesn’t love her husband. certainly she does and there are so many wonderful things for her to love about him, yet sometimes he vexes her more than anything else in the world. he’s too prone to his flights of fancy, to prone to forgetting about things that she finds crucially important. today is only another example of that; their anniversary seems to be passing without so much as an ‘i love you’. it’s well into the early afternoon when she finally hears the door of their chambers creak open, but she doesn’t bother to turn her attention to the intrusion.
“lovely to finally hear from you, darling,” she comments idly, tone icy.
