hello!

i thought i'd like to return to tumblr... and tag the posts for my fic, because i apparently write now?

Tian Ying from Where Winds Meet has sent me in a full feral frenzy and i allegedly cannot keep him off my mind. so i wrote second-person male shao dong jia / Tian Ying. if you don't enjoy second person, i understand why - however, it's a conscious choice, and i believe young master has his own character that i have attempted to try my best to capture - because i selfishly did not want to name him (if that makes sense, lol). if you've some time, please give it a shot anyway! 💛 no hard feelings if you can't get into it!

The hyperfixation haul arrived... Aaand it's great, lol. I got two of nearly everything to test their survivability (and because it's cheap, thank you China) and yeah, kind of in love with with all of this aaah.

The little power puff trio with Yi Dao, Ruby, and young master is probably my favourite, though! 😆

it took a while, between moving house & dealing with real life! so, i cannot guarantee any updates for at least a month due to the nature of my commitment. however, i'll still be trying my best to add words so i can come back to a document i'll be happy to edit!

enjoy this chapter. feels like a long time, but it's really only been nearly 5 weeks, hah. this might be the last foreseeable beacon of light before the next few slow-dive into angst... you know how it is.

I don't really want to add a chapter just to update on my life situation, but I feel like I do owe an explanation of sorts, so it'll be here! So, me and my partner (husband, depending on who you ask, I just prefer neutral terms for the homies) are going through partner visa shenanigans in Australia currently, and he'll be flying back to the states for a minimum of 8 months (up to 24 months).

Unfortunately, as a result, I've had to relocate housing and manage all of this other life-related plans. I know my chapters have gotten longer and longer, but word count isn't the main reason to take such a large hiatus! (I can hear some of you groaning at this due to my initially fast update schedule, lol)

That, and I've committed to a raid group in FFXIV come June!

I know my pace with Tin & Copper has been basically blistering, and my chapters are planned out - see chapter count - but I appreciate your patience with life unfortunately hitting me with a sledgehammer, haha. Please look forward to chapter 26 - it will be a long and comfortable one. (And I've mentioned it before, but I worry about the content, but you're going to have to trust me on this!)

i know the WWM soundtrack is goated, but i have two idle observations:

There are lot of 'hopeful' tracks before the moment you touch Tian Ying's tracks. i know it likely means nothing, but i notice these strange things (not that there aren't hopeful songs after his tracks, but they are tinged with direness, i feel).

Tian Ying has his own tracks: P1 Miaoshan is Boundless Tian Ying, P2 Miaoshan is Merciless Tian Ying and P3 is Formless Tian Ying. I'm really a fan of when there are clear, unrepentant themes like this.

I have been writing, there's no doubt about that: we are currently sitting at 22k words for chapter 26 - but I suppose my current pathways is that I'm trialing for a FFXIV static tonight, and I am moving this weekend so there is a lot of things happening!

There's also the idea that has been swimming in my mind of how Tian Ying lived in Buddhism despite not 'believing in the doctrine' for so long that it influences the rest of his thoughts. 'He has no fixed form' is already such a line that lives in the level of self-aware enlightenment by itself, without him ever meaning to! Even if he does not believe, I think in some capacity, he uses the pathways of Dharma (and xia) to justify himself in some regard. I just think he's neat, and words may fail to capture all that I feel, haha.

well, since i endeavour to be as accurate as possible - today was a day where i combed over every single chapter of Tin & Copper and fixed all dialogue addresses from Tian -> Tian Ying. INTIMACY moments are WIP. I'm relieved I didn't write the introduction of A'Ying as a "this is a surprise name" and now is just "can i formally call you this...?" otherwise that scene would've been real messy. Ah.

I formally apologise for this huge oversight, as I'm still learning how it all works, too! this is my first Chinese-adjacent fanfiction after all OTL. *kowtows 1,000 times* again, it won't be perfect; English idiot being foremost English speaking and very ignorant. i will still be combing over things and adding flavour text to make sure it all flows over well - but all dialogue instances are now fixed (i am now very tired/drained lol) .

ALL worth it though.

it might be a little different from my usual, but i thought i'd like to drop it here before i forget: there are currently two songs i ascribe to our couple in Tin & Copper due to their developing relationship.

in particular (besides the amazing chorus) this feels like YM--especially due to his singing from chapter 11, the little one knows singing is amazing for stress relief. good man.

to me, also, this mans is young. he's still trying to determine how he feels, so the butterflies analogy (slightly naive, a little optimistic) works well - though i hope to capture the depth and breadth of his feelings in the upcoming chapters (past ch25).

Tian Ying in particular--due to the way he views himself as 'erasing his face, name' to become a formless being that is in perpetual motion. of course, can't forget the nickname he gives YM: 'little sun' :-)

i also like to think that the metaphor about ghosts could extend to a lot of things, but in particular, his feelings about the Yanyun prefectures, and growing up in such a turbulent, fragmented time.

yeah, i'm a huge sap lol, i love men who labour with their feelings and struggle under the weight of so many expectations placed upon them feeling a certain way about one another and would absolutely rather die than try to say how they feel aloud to one another.

Actually! I know about this, and I can answer you - all boss hitboxes are "sized up" for the player's visual benefit. They aren't actually that size in canon lore, but I still very much like to lean into it. For my headcanon, Tian Ying is above average height for the time period in China - but he also might be average in actuality! Sorry to burst your bubble with that reality, but I do my best to emphasise that he is almost a head taller than YM. I believe so because of young master's age!

I can completely understand going 👀 at his boss-height, though. Thanks for reading the fic!! My heart bursts with joy hearing I have rereaders. Hope that helps, haha.
