“Since you’re so adapted to the forest, what are you going to do if there are no trees in the arena ? That would be dampen your little readjustment, wouldn’t it ? I can only imagine how easily you’d wither away in hellish heat like the desert of the 69th Games…Hm - I do certainly hope the odds are in your favor.” The female victor remarked with a sarcastic smile and a raised brow. She scoffed at his ability to remain calm, thinking it would take more than two weeks to become accustomed to the idea of slaughtering your companions. Mia had build relationships with these people in the eight years since her victory. While some kept their distance, she had meaningful conversations with others that would only make them that much harder to kill. How did the Capitol expect them to stab their colleagues in the back ? “I’m sure you’d like to think that about us Careers, but I’m sorry to tell you, but the academy is far more evolved than that. They do teach us more than how to maim and kill for glory, you know.” She remarked with a roll of her eyes, wondering whether or not he would call her bluff. While the career academy she attended trained its students in survival tactics, it was only a fraction of time in comparison to how long they practiced footwork and kill angles.
“adapt, i guess. what choice is there?” jax shrugged. he was no stranger to careers or their games, not after all the years he’d been stuck in the capitol, and he decided not to give her hypotheticals the time of day. he’d hate the desert, he’d hate everything about such an arena, but he remembered something about cutting into cacti for water. were they all that different from his trees? “that so? the academies are more evolved than teaching children how to play into the glory of all this, huh?” jax made a face, as if he were genuinely surprised by the news. it would be so easy to get worked up, to shout at her for her part in transforming children into murderers, but he chose not to delve into the ugly details. “never knew. all of my years of watching, it’s you careers that seem to die off when the food from the cornucopia dwindles. but i’m just from seven. you know a hell of a lot more than i do.” in a sense she did, but he couldn’t really bring himself to care. he knew plenty about the things that mattered to him, and the hunger games just didn’t rank. “what’s it you want, two? aside from giving me hell?”
