the next time she stepped into the tribute center, she thought itâd be to mentor another tribute who would not make it past the first day of the games. this time, she was the one who was going to step into the arena for the second damn time. part of her didnât even want to train, what was the point? she knew all of these people, she had seen their games and knew how they had fought. still, she wasnât the best at reading others and now they were all experienced killers. she spent too much time thinking about the outcomes that she spaced out from her surroundings. with a quick shake of her head, she looked up directing her attention to the other victor. âwhat?â
davina had no intentions of ever returning to the tribute center. not as a mentor, and certainly not as a tribute again. yet here she was, being forced into the games once more. while she was bitter about it, she knew she had to train. she had to be better than them all. she took the time to study her competition for a moment, before deciding it was time for her to start training again. âcan you move? youâre kind of blocking the shelf.â she said, nodding towards the selection of weapons behind her.
ofninth:
his fingers curled around the handle and he brought the sickle forward, swinging the open crescent-shaped blade at the dummyâs midsection. TIGHT, defined muscles contracted underneath the identical training uniform the tanned male wore, only distinguishable from the others by his respective district number o9 on a square cloth pinned to his shirt. demetri began to slash at the dummy more, cutting its face and neck, channeling HIS ANGER AND FRUSTRATION at life and the challenges of being away from his family once more. raising the short-handled tool up to decapitate the dummy, only stopping when he heard someone behind him. turning on his heel, demetri had the semicircular blade held to the front, held back ready to be swung. ânext time you sneak up on me i might not be so MERCIFUL. the next time you wonât live to see another day, especially if itâs in the games.â
davina had intended to spend all of her free time training. while she was now fairly skilled in combat, she knew these games would be different. these werenât new people sheâd be up against. they were people who knew what they were doing, people who had just as much experience as her, if not more. she hadnât expected the room to be empty, though she wished it was. sighing to herself, she looked around, her eyes meeting each of the victors before landing on the number â09âČ again. he was from her district, and she figured for the time being, sheâd rather be around someone she knew. making her way over to him, she was prepared to speak until he had turned around before she had the chance. a quiet gasp slipped past her lips at the position of the blade, causing her to take an involuntary step back. âsave it for the arena, would you? i wasnât sneaking up on you either. i was just watching.âÂ
thvrns:
âWell, you certainly seem to be a bit out of practice.â Mia remarked with an amused smirk, bringing her hand up to her lips to cover her bubbling laughter. She had just come from the fitness center and happened upon a tribute who had been reaped like she had. Being the woman she was, it only seemed right to test the waters before their training process began. âI do hope you donât hurt yourself during training. It would be a shame if you didnât make it to the arena.â The female added with a righteous tone and a testing smile.Â
she had been off her game, she was sure of that. though she hadnât forgotten how to fight, she couldnât bring herself to concentrate. âhow do you know that wasnât my intention? maybe iâm trying to not make it to the arena.â davina turned to face the other women. there was a hint of joking in her words, and a smile much like the otherâs formed on her lips. âwhy donât you go on and try it. letâs see what you can do.â
oftaiga:
jax hated the capitol, he hated the flamboyant people and their utter disregard for human lives. that said, he tried his damnedest to remain impassive when the crowds might be watching. it wasnât worth the scandal. still, there was something in the tone of her voice that caused him to smirk and take notice of the fiery victor. he shook his head. âdying? in the capitol? our dear president wouldnât forgive himself.â his words were laced with sarcasm though they were perfectly polite if anyone were to question his meaning. in a lower tone, however, he added.
a small chuckle slipped past her red stained lips. âlike snow would ever blame himself. iâm sure he wouldâve found a way to pin it on some poor sucker.â she spoke, shaking her head slightly. davina never bothered to hide her disdain for anyone  or anything. she didnât care what the people thought of her, and the last thing she needed or wanted was their approval. âis it just me, or do the crowds seem bigger than ever this year? i didnât even realize there were this many people in the capitol.âÂ
rcwanisms:
rowan sighed. she understood davinaâs anger well. and indeed, there was a part of herself that felt like it wanted to explode, to destroy everything in itâs path until it was free- but that wasnât the way to play the game. so she put her anger in a space somewhere in the back of her mind, and she smiled and kept her role. âand if someone were dying, iâm sure youâd be the first to jump in and save the day, right?â her fingers tugged at the uncomfortable dress sheâd been put in. âwouldnât want them to die before giving them the chance to be killed properly.â there was a morbid sort of humor that was shared only by the victors- the people who had gone through hell alone. âyou know theyâre not going to let you hide out in here much longer. the people want their pound of flesh.â
âof course i would. itâd be a tragedy if the people didnât get to watch as us all die, wouldnât it?â despite the bitterness in her tone, she was relieved the see rowan. (though she wished it was under different circumstances) she happened to be one of the few people davina didnât mind being around. âi know, but i intend to hide here as long as i can. so far, iâm doing good.â green hues moved to finally look at the other, before they traveled down to her dress. âif thatâs the type of dress they put you in, i can only imagine what the rest look like. can you even breathe in that thing?â though there were many things davina despised about the capitol, the clothing had to fall in the top ten. she always thought they made themselves look like fools.Â
ofvictors:
the crowds were incredible. capitolites clamored to see their beloved victors arriving by train and screamed their names as they were escorted into the tribute center. it had been years since heâd been a part of this, since heâd been the focus of their attention, and oh how heâd missed it. âyouâd think we havenât been back to the capitols since we won,â he grinned, savoring the moment and the people calling for him. âdamn good to be back, isnât it?âÂ
it made her sick the way people cheered. they received their fame from taking others lives and their fans saw nothing wrong with it. her face remained stoic, hardly even looking in the direction of the crowds. she hated them, and their funky outfits almost as much as she hated the capitol. âoh yes. i was just dreaming about the day i got to come back here. iâm jumping with joy, if you couldnât already tell.â though she held back a scoff, she didnât bother hiding the sarcasm in her tone.
âunless you have something important to say, or someoneâs dying, i suggest you go find someone else to bother.â davina spoke, without even glancing in the personâs direction. she was mad to say the least, and the last thing she wanted was company.
