𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐡 when she said that. whatever you say. it was not WHATEVER though, was it? he spun back around, staring at her even though she was not looking at him right now. “it’s not about this, anna. it was my idea to identify and summon the angel —— and i don’t regret this.” cosimo closed his eyes once he realized how that might sound. “i don’t regret us either. i NEVER did, but look at us. a part of me wanted to kill everyone in that room tonight because of the dress you chose. you picked it so i would react… because i didn’t do you justice.” he swallowed hard, lowering his eyes. “you told me you wanted more and i hesitated. you mean so much to me, but something held me back and you don’t deserve that.” all he wanted was to step forward and hold her, to comfort her, but he respected her need for space. “what else can i do? ask you to stay by my side, in spite of another woman? AGAIN?” it nearly broke his heart to admit this, but he went on. “i would have left illyria in a heartbeat, but you deserve someone that doesn’t even have to make a decision like that. you deserve better than me.”
“Yes, I did want more and what’s happened? I’ve been burnt, again. Because you fell in love with someone else and I will always remain your dirty little secret because I doubt you’ll be telling this other woman about me.” She then turned to look at him again. “If you didn’t want us to go this far, you could’ve told me months ago instead of leading me through a merry dance behind your wife's and this other woman’s back. You were never going to choose me and that’s the truth.” They never did choose her and that was the reality she had to face up to. “Good job I don’t want to be your dirty secret any more, it’s over.”
