Full moons are meant to be feeding hour ( but, in technicality every hour is feeding hour. ) It’s dusk, & nightfall casts shade to the area the temptress can only fix her attention on the weak, and there she sits before her under the fatal pierce of her contact. Thirst gnaws her insides, and her deceptive smirk only caresses porcelain features for the other. The GENTLE reach of her hand strives to part the falling of the other’s bangs from out of the view of her face. To be tucked behind the others ear, & when the queen brings her hand back to her own she’ll be sure to brush the sharp of her nail against the side of the strangers neck to. A quick movement of holding her chin up with a crane of her fingers just so she can see her pretty complex better.’ You’re to cute to be out here all by yourself, aren’t you? Let me guess You’re going through a really hard breakup and he kicked you out. Why even deal with boys Their such a waste. ’
She doesn't know this particular female, but there's something in the way she simply speaks that leaves chills to crawl up the map of Clementine's spine. She'll wrap arms around herself to shield a tiny frame and fingernails dig crescent trenches into the backs of her arms where she holds tight. Nervousness! There's something very suffocating about this girl's energy, and yet----- she's entirely entranced as fingers brush hair behind her ear and even leave the burn of a soft graze over the side of her neck. This being is no demon, else a touch to Cat's skin might have earned a rather unpleasant reaction---- so, she alright. Right? There's a flutter of long lashes, before they lower to kiss the tops of angel's cheekbones; a flush over her soft features. A breakup? No. Just the heavy weight of abandonment after her former vampire lover took leave. But that is the way her life so seems to keep her on her feet. Never settling.
❝ ——-……. He. Doesn't care about me--- anymore. ❞ She hasn't seen him in months. She doesn't understand heartbreak.
❝ -----....... Hi !!! ❞ She's perched on the lowest limb of a tree; just enough to where she's managed to pull herself up and sit upon it. She'll wait until you're walking just below her, before calling out excitedly to give herself away. Don't be mistaken--- she hopes you'll be startled.
open road -- roman&catalaine
The way she looks at him…he’s not sure about him. It seems thoughtful and kind. Maybe it’s just having a strange affect on him because he is mostly used to resigned hate or lust. The only time he sees something earnest in someone’s facial features is when Shelley looks at him, or Letha. Those are faces he’s seen his whole life though. It’s strange to see a stranger’s features arranged with those emotions in mind and directed at him.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about me. You’ve already helped me very much.”
Roman sighs deeply and breathes an ‘alright’ before shifting back into drive and pressing his foot down on the gas. It doesn’t take long for him to pick up speed in his Jaguar and the wind gets busy caressing skin and tousling hair of the car’s inhabitant.
Is that suppose to set him at ease. The fact that she spends her days walking around and her nights crashing on park benches? Well it doesn’t and it’s not a satisfying explanation for her already troubling behaviour, “Yeah I guess,” he offers. Anyone would pick up a hitch hiker right?
——————— She’s just lucky it’s someone half decent. Emphasis on the half part.
”Listen you know none of that shit is normal right?” he questions, sparing her a glance before concentrating back to the rod disappearing beneath the car, “People don’t just, wander around like that and sleep on park benches. And if they do they usually smell bad or don’t admit that’s how they’re living. So what are you like, homeless or something?”
————; He seems put off and she can sense it in the shift of the air between them. Oh, did he not like her? It made her brow furrow and hands fidget all the more. She hoped he liked her because she liked him very much-- he was lovely for helping her out. A lot of people were put off by her, however-- they just weren't used to the way that she was and she was not made for this world. She'd been chased out of places and yelled at; hurt and told terrible things. All of which hurt, but it was something she got over because she was simply created for others-- she was not allowed to be selfish and to put it very simply, her feelings did not matter.
The wind picks up when the car speeds and it tousles her hair-- licking at her skin and eliciting a soft laugh. She'd never been in a car with an open top before and she was quite taken by it. Almost like when she was flying.
Almost.
Suddenly, he seems quite agitated and it makes her jump lightly-- eyes forward and swallowing thickly. What was she supposed to say? She probably seemed crazy because the people on this world were different-- wouldn't understand because they were better at understanding the evils that took place on their soil.
"I didn't-------" No, she wasn't fully aware it wasn't normal.
At his comment, she grasps the front of her over-sized shirt in the pads of her fingers and inhaled through the fabric. She didn't smell bad-- she's fairly certain it's impossible for her species to smell badly, but she wants to make sure anyway. "Homeless.... um---- yes, I think? I mean I do not have a house. Or anything, really, I just wander around. It's fine, really, don't be angry." He seemed angry before and she feels a small pang of fear because there was no way for her to escape a moving vehicle without damaging her vessel. She'd been around bad men before and she'd been hurt by bad men too-- he didn't seem the same as them. "I'm sorry."
now i am become death; tate&catalaine
Regardless of who was following who - Tate wasn’t very friendly. Sure, he knew how to engage socially with other people for the most part. That didn’t mean he was disposed to it. Didn’t mean he really enjoyed it. Most people were boring and thought he was weird.
Which of course, he was.
Still the compliment elicits a small smile from him. For his little niche of knowledge base her’s gotten strange, unusual, odd…not usually smart. It’s a refreshing change even for him.
“I know a lot about birds to,” he says - one of his favourite kind of animals to read about in all honesty.
”I guess,” he shrugs - it’s not so much that he likes them “They’re just so…peaceful,” they feel like home. To a lost soul, without one. He envied them their rest. Wondered where they all went - surely they were not all meandering around on earth still.
One night a year to feel restless for them, one night a year that he could go somewhere that made him still as calm waters. Death was familiar to him. Maybe Tate Langdon did not deserve peace or rest because of his transgression but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t carve it. Some sense of closure. The end of a story.
This endless, meaningless existence isn’t doing anything to help him keep whatever shreds of sanity he may of died with.
———————— “Why were you there?”
————; "Oh---- do you?"
Yes, yes, Cat loved birds. Really, she adored all animals, but she did like birds particularly for their wings. Her own resembled them greatly, actually, though she hardly ever took them out. Oh, her wings were very special and so they were very well-protected.
"What's your favorite? Hummingbirds are mine. They can fly backwards----- did you know that?" Of course he did, she was just excited that she knew enough about them. Yes, Tate was very smart, she could tell, and she liked that about him.
Graveyards; yes, they were very peaceful.
Quiet and sad-- safe. No one would find her.
"I was hiding," she answered simply, very off-hand, like it should have been obvious what she was doing at a cemetery late into the night. She hadn't a place to go, really, and so her feet had carried her there where no one could bother her.
"It's not safe outside at night and so I find safe places. No one goes there and so I went there." Oh, except for him-- he'd been there, but she didn't sense any initial threat from him, anyway.
"And I was reading the stones. There are babies--- some of them so young," she says, letting her eyes fall away a moment and that once excited tone flattens out. Earth was a cruel and wicked place. She loved babies-- really, she did, but she'd never be a mother. "Sad."
tender age in bloom; tate&catalaine
Maybe Tate should say something, clarify that she would do nothing of the sort. Maybe the young woman should use her tinkling laugh to smooth over the tension between the pair, but she doesn’t find herself doing either of those things. Or anything really to attempt to change the situation.
Instead she finds herself silently watching the other climb out of the pond. Perhaps it’s because she realizes that it’s far more unsettling than continuing to speak, or maybe it’s because she really doesn’t have anything else to say. She’s just been working off with what the other is saying to her.
:”Angry,” she questions, eyebrows perking up, “No I’m not angry, at least…not at you,” in general yes, the blonde has felt rage sometimes beyond comprehension and without reason. Just a general upset at the world and it’s mis-justices
“And it’s not my pond -“
The other is dressed now, and she had done so in a hurry which means whatever sick game the Langdon girl is playing is getting the desires effect…but what to do now?
”Don’t you have a bathtub at home or something? Five bucks to go swimming at the local community center…why are you out here all alone?”
————; "Hmm."
Not mad at her-- well, she certainly wasn't being very nice to her if that was the case, was she? Rude! Oh, but Cat couldn't allow herself to get too worked up, it just wasn't in her blood to stay angry.
Angels were a very timid species.
"Well, if it's not your pond, then don't get angry with me. You know, it's hard to make friends when you're threatening people with sticks," she chided, the bridge of her nose wrinkled softly.
"I don't have a home."
Brow is raised in irritation as she brushes off her jeans. "And I don't know what five bucks is, but I do not think I have that thing. I don't know anyone over here... is being alone so wrong?" There's a pang of something in her voice and she's avoiding the other's gaze now, lips pursed. Now she's upset, but she'd trying not to show it.
open road -- roman&catalaine
When she takes a seat next to him, something in the air shifts. Something tangible. The original push and pull on his heart that had him driving aimlessly to begin with seems to settle. A sense of p e a c e blankets him. “Uh sure,” he responds, thinking of Peter’s cat Casper for the briefest of moments. She’s right about him, beneath the the warmth that he is capable of, beneath the desire to be strong and kind is monster lurking the darkness. Threatening to shatter the glass of his kindness. Sometimes it rears its ugly head in displays of lust, and gluttonous drinking and drug use. Right now though, there is no malcontent and she is in no danger. He doesn’t answer right away, a little taken aback by her touch “Uh…Roman. My name is Roman Godfrey, and it’s nothing,” he attempts to be casual but her presence is having an unexpectedly profound effect on him. Before he shifts back into drive he looks over at her, “Look, are…are you okay?” he questions, not because she seems immediately distressed, “I mean, you’re out here alone. Hitch hiking. You have nowhere in particular to go its just…weird. If you need help, I can help you. I will help you,”
————; He pauses for a moment, before answering-- her fingers still lingering like a whisper against the top of his hand, before she pulls away and pulls her knees to her chest with a small smile. Yes, his car was safe-- safer than wandering around, and though maybe she shouldn't because she didn't know him, she still felt safe with the male. She was no good at protecting herself, wandering around alone, and the next city sounded far away. Cat didn't understand the concept of time well, so didn't understand how far two hours was, but she'd already been walking for a long time.
"Roman Godfrey." She repeats his name with lips parted, smile lingering on the curve of her lips. Oh, it was such a lovely name, but she doesn't say so. He looks at her sort of worriedly and it elicits a tiny wrinkle of her nose as she blinks lightly. Oh, but couldn't he see she was fine? She was all in one piece, wasn't she?
Oh yes, he was concerned.
Lovely of him, really, and she regards him warmly.
"I'm fine, don't worry about me. You've already helped me very much." Leaning back in the seat, the angel watched as roman shifted the car into drive and returned to the road. Cars were interesting, though she did not know how to use them.
"I move around all the time. I walk everywhere and as long as I find a park, I'm just fine. They're safer to sleep in than other places because no one is allowed there after dark-- people avoid them usually," she explains in an off-handed fashion. And oh!!-- she remembered she didn't have money to give him for this ride, she didn't understand money so well either. She had a few dimes and nickles that perhaps she could offer him late in thanks. She was very grateful.
"This is my first time hitch-hiking, I've never tried until now. It worked!" Another smile and she fidgets lightly with dainty fingers. "It was very lovely of you."
now i am become death; tate&catalaine
Her innocent like excitement is amusing to im, and his brow furrows at her, not sure how to handle it. Usually happiness like this is something that puts the unusual teen off - he doesn’t like it…yet, such a strange thing to get all excited over.
———————————— He looks at her hand but doesn’t take it.
”There’s like 1240 species of bats and 70% of them only eat insects,” he starts, “And most of the rest of them eat fruits, despite that they’re still famous for the ones that drink blood — and only the blood of animals no less,” he shrugs. It’s so typical of humans to single out the weird one and then treat the rest as if they are the same.
”So yeah, Bat’s…not as weird or awful as people make them out to be, actually they’re kinda cute…” he realizes that despite the fact that she’s provided him with her name he hasn’t introduced himself yet,
”Sorry, I’m Tate,” he shakes his head, “I don’t…really do the hand shake thing,” he explains.
————; Cat let her hand drop back to her side with lips in a tight line when he refused it. Hmm-- he did know that he was the one who'd been following her, right? It's not in her nature to be offended, however, and she simply listens closely to the information on bats that he rambles off to her.
Oh good-- he was smart. She liked him already.
"They're misunderstood," she answers softly with a small nod. The thought it one that elicits a pang in her chest. Poor bats, they didn't deserve their bad reputation.
"Oh, that's alright--" she starts, but there's still a wrinkle at the bridge of her nose in light confusion. She'd try to read his aura later, when she wasn't forcing it upon him. Even without touching the male, she could sense a darkness there; maybe even a sadness in the way he spoke and the way bags under his eyes framed dark, almost black hues.
Like he hadn't gotten a decent night's rest in years.
"Tate; it's a nice name." Yes, not often heard. She likes the way it rolls off her tongue. "You're smart-- you know a lot about bats. I like animals a lot... all kinda, really." Except roaches. They gave her god-awful chills.
"Do you like cemeteries?" There's suddenly a seriousness and possibly a sadness in her voice and she peers up at him. After all, he'd been there late at night as well.
open road -- roman&catalaine
It’s a simple question, or at least he thought it was. Yet the stranger seems to chew on it for a moment as silence permeates the air between them.
Actually, Roman doesn’t understand in the slightest. Sure sometimes he’ll go out for a long drive, but that’s the extent of his travels. They never go on vacation, and Roman Godfrey has hardly left Hemlock Grove at all. He doesn’t know what it like to have to keep moving, to change the scenery on a regular basis. All he knows is home, and that’s where he’ll stay.
”If I keep driving, we’ll be in Lancaster in a few hours,” he shrugs, what an unusual thing. Hitchhiking was rare these days, and especially dangerous for a woman, but the fact that she was willing to be taken anywhere? “It’s the biggest city close to Hemlock Grove, which is where I’m coming from,” he explains to her.
He wasn’t really going anywhere in particular anyways..just driving. Maybe he wouldn’t even mind the company and hey…maybe she would ‘repay’ him for his kindness. Not that he expected it nor would he force her to. Still, it’s always something that the young Upir is considering when dealing with a person of the opposite sex.
————; "Um--"
She had no idea where Lancaster was, nor had she ever been there before in her earthly life, but she was willing to travel anywhere even just once. Maybe Lancaster would be fun-- maybe she'd find a use for herself there rather than a wandering ghost. She hated being completely useless, it meant she wasn't doing her duty and she felt terrible awful.
"I have never been to Lancaster, but if you are going there then I will try it out!" Yes, she doesn't hesitate to open the door and slide right into the seat beside the male. Oh, he's quite a bit taller than her and she can tell once she's in a sitting position. Hmm!
"My name is Catalaine, but I like Cat better-- like the animal so it's much better, right?" There's a flicker of excitement in the angel's eyes as she leans back in the seat and casts the male a sidelong glance. Now's her chance to do it and she seizes the moment-- her need to read his aura taking over. As naturally as possible, she reaches over to touch the pads of dainty fingers to the top of his hand; just a ghost of a touch, before she speaks. "Can I have your name?"
His energy is warm, but it flickers with a darkness there. Maybe even a loneliness, but she can't tell. He was potentially dangerous, but there was goodness within the night. Interesting.
"It's very kind of you to pick me up. I've been wandering around for a while but there's nowhere nearby to stay-- just a lot of trees."
tender age in bloom; tate&catalaine
It’s almost difficult not to laugh at the other’s reaction. Of course, people always thought that she seemed sweet, that she was a woman and that she wasn’t capable of such vulgarness or violence. They were wrong, the thoughts that infected her mind would startle most people. Including the woman swimming in the pond most likely.
“You have no idea what I’m capable of,” Tate retorts, though her voice isn’t threatening. More monotone than anything else. Mostly she just likes to push the boundaries with people she would never actually hurt anyone…
…would she? Sometimes the line is blurry.
————; Cat reads a tiny flicker of something on the other female's face-- what was it? Humor? Was she going to laugh? She doesn't and remains stoic, while the small angel practically trembles in the middle of the pond.
Was she in trouble?
Females weren't usually much trouble, it was males she learned to look out for-- however, there was something undeniably serious in the girl's tone and expression; something that worries her deeply.
"No," she starts. No, she certainly had no idea what the other was capable of, but if she had to take off running, Cat was very fast on her feet. Moving towards the edge of the pond, she actually feels quite embarrassed now; arm crossed over the small swell of her chest while the other extended to grab her clothes from an overhanging tree branch.
She hadn't gotten dressed that fast in a long time.
"If you're mad about something, you could just say it." Oh-- there's her biting tone. She'd sticking up for herself a bit now that she's clothed and a little less uncomfortable. Green eyes flicker over her shoulder to gaze at the other. "If this is your pond or something."
"You a mind reader or something?-I don’t worry a lot I just think about the things others fail to realize."
"N-no! I can't read minds, no, but I can pretend to! But um--- I can see it-- like a flicker in your eyes, you know. If you do that then you carry others' burdens."
