Her expression shifted into that of confusion and concern. How could have Persephone ever had been taken with the idea that such a tragedy was hers to apologize for? If the account was to be placed specifically upon someone, Demeter would have taken it willingly.
She should have been there to save her. She should have been there to SHIELD her from, not only the openness of the CRUEL, DARK world, but also the Underworld, and those colonized there. The Goddess was well aware of just how dangerous both worlds could be, and she had, in one way or another, l e t h e r g o against her own knowing… And she would never stop blaming herself for that decision alone.
“It is I who should be apologizing, my child. I was not there to PROTECT you when I should have been. I was not there when you needed me most. I have failed you, and for that I am most genuinely apologetic.” She released a sharp breath, attempting to compose herself after a reunion so utterly emotional.
Upon seeing tears at the corners of her daughter’s eyes, she rose a hands to delicately wipe them away. “No tears, for this is a most joyous day. And we will celebrate with as much picking of flowers as your heart desires.” She smiled with warm amusement at her daughter, copiously grateful that the girl’s time down in the Underworld had not bedimmed her radiant light.
