i get sad whenever i see people completely deny that original hikaru could have been queer. i was someone’s hikaru when i was younger, i didn’t know i was gay at the time, or really what being gay was at all. like hikaru i was somewhat aware that lgbtq people existed but i never fully grasped the concept until i was about 11 when i had my first actual crush. i heard people around me speak negatively of anything that had to do with being gay which made me resent that part of myself, i thought something terrible would happen if anyone found out. i hid that part of me for years, i lied about having crushes on the opposite gender so no one would ask questions, i tried to be what everyone else thought was normal but in the end it just made me miserable. I’m comfortable in my identity now but it took years to unlearn the hate i was surrounded by all my life. i love hikaru as a character and even if you don’t think he’s queer the idea shouldn’t be completely disregarded. even though he had his moments he is not an awful person, just a product of the system he grew up in. that’s all thank you for coming to my ted talk mwah

hii i’m back here’s some yoshiki headcanons i’ve thought up over the past week or so that i really like🙏 i kind of forgot tumblr existed for a while lol

1. he used to draw a lot back when hikaru was alive. he has a sketchbook filled with drawings of hikaru and different bugs (sometimes hikaru would pose for him, he liked the attention but he’d never admit it) he stopped drawing when hikaru died but slowly picked it up again the more he got to know “hikaru”. now he draws him and his true form (yes “hikaru” also poses for him, he’s very enthusiastic about it)

2. he frequently had to hold himself back from scolding og hikaru for being unnecessarily mean. one time he slipped up and told him off for being an asshole about things people can’t control (hikaru apologized later, yoshiki told him to be more careful with his words, because eventually he’s going to say something like that and the people around him won’t be as forgiving as yoshiki)

3. he’s a HUGE lizzy mcalpine fan, his favorite songs are soccer practice, firearm, and orange show speedway. spring into summer is a hard listen because it reminds him of hikaru

i saw some people talking about yoshiki’s grief being mistaken for denial and i want to add to the discussion cause i like yapping :3

there’s a very big difference between mourning someone and being in denial that they’re gone, yoshiki is working through his grief, he’s accepted that oghikaru is dead and he’s not coming back. however that doesn’t mean he’s suddenly completely over it, he lost his best friend and his first love all at once, that’s going to fuck with his head for a while. what’s important now is that he accepts hikaru is dead and that “hikaru” is his own person separate from the boy he grew up with

tldr grief and denial are not the same thing and the mischaracterization of yoshiki makes me upset okay bye

as i said last time he’s shown to pick someone to have a crush on which is something i’ve noticed a lot of people on the aroace spectrum did/do, and the bi headcanon is because i think he’d consider dating a man if given the opportunity😭

hikaru - bisexual but heavily in denial

this one hasn’t changed much, i used to hc him as gay but after sitting on it for a while I view him as being bisexual (he’s still knee deep in denial)

“hikaru” - queer & aroace

i’ll go more in depth this time because a lot of people were confused about how it’s possible to be queer and aroace at the same time, aroace people can still be in relationships and love their partner. “hikaru” says that his love isn’t platonic but it’s not romantic either, he loves yoshiki without a label. “hikaru” doesn’t experience attraction in the way everyone else does, his bond with yoshiki goes beyond the way humans normally see love.
