important growing up stuff right here
Helpful.
The cw/tw phenomenon really concerns me. I'm glad that the topic was bought up, because I've been having a lot of trouble conceptualising it. Of course I understand that trauma is very real and that people can and do have adverse reactions to some topics, but one of the basic precedents of psychology is that avoiding your fears (negative reinforcement) can in turn make them stronger - meaning that providing the option (though I can understand why) might potentially be contributing to the problem? I also wonder how far it is that content warnings will go? I have a phobia of vomiting, but I can't and SHOUDLNT live my life actively avoiding stimuli that could potentially freak me out. I also feel like coddling these issues is a strange form of denial on a societal level. I mean, people will experience triggers, no matter what the space, but perhaps it's better that they practice exposure and experience them here where it certainly is safe. Conversely, I personally feel afraid to post on here sometimes for fear of saying the wrong thing or saying something that's politically incorrect, not that I feel I have any particularly hurtful opinions, but simply because I have not learned the vast and increasing number of things that are to be censored.
