Aircrafting played just before Nightdogs at Coco66 and while I couldn't really get a gauge on what I thought about it, I suppose it didn't matter too much because they had a kind of temporary setup of guitar, keys and bass along with the drums. The FB profile bills them as "sometimes the solo project of jon tehel"
Have not actually seen them/seen them on a bill since but they were memorable enough for me to include here after 2 months so...
<a href="http://aircrafting.bandcamp.com/album/and-away-we-go-ep" data-mce-href="http://aircrafting.bandcamp.com/album/and-away-we-go-ep">..And Away We Go EP by Aircrafting</a>
No video anywhere in the universe that's relevant to 2013 so here's one song from the "...And Away We Go" EP. Listen to the rest on their bandcamp.
Nightdogs. Night.....dogs.
Team Napoleon knows Tim from Satellite aka the best bar never to be seen again. We saw them at Coco66 (which was back open to my surprise/lateness) back in July and I was actually stunned.
I won't try to find any comparisons because I literally don't have a rock and roll repository that will allow it BUT I will say that it IS rock and roll and that Tim's voice was enough to make me go to their bandcamp and listen to literally everything on it. Which you should also do. Right here.
BONUS: Video with significantly less tambourine
The number of shows I've seen this summer is incredible. The number of posts I've written is way less than that so here's a picture of my boyfriend asleep after letting/making me paint his nails.
Updates coming soon.
Ravi Shavi came onto my radar last year when they played with Napoleon at Big Snow. They were fun/poppy/I was drunk but they were good friends with some friends of mine and I got addicted pretty quickly.
Now that their new album is on the horizon and I've seen them play more recently (in Providence at Local 121), I'm glad to be sitting down and blurbing this. Rafay sent me a preview the upcoming offering and it's been giving me a James Brown/Born Ruffians/band-with-a-frenetic-lead-singer-that-is-currently-escaping-me vibe that I'm really glad they've developed. Particularly the BR-like riffs and yearning-turned-resentful-commentary lyrics. Coincidentally, I saw Oberhofer at McCaren Park last week and I actually brought up to a friend that Brad's stage-presence had gotten more lively/present and reminded me of Rafay a little bit so if you've seen them lately there's a reference for you.
They're currently on tour and you can keep up with them on Facebook
Right. Down to biz...video of "Mental Breakdown" from their new album from a show at Firehouse 13

Well, this be here. Mykki Blanco's video for "The Initiation" off the Betty Rubble: The Initiation EP. Makes me down for a revisit.
The video for Moonlight is HERE. Thanks to Yousef Kawar at house B studio for coming all the way from Amman, Jordan and kicking it on a roof in Bushwick. Starring: Julian Anderson, Julien O'neill, Cory Sterling + Harrison F Keithline AKA: Moose, Pwneill, Toast and Reebok Harry (+me, Yo'pal) Check out our page @ Napoleon. We play on Friday at Cameo Gallery with Grand Resort and Night Dogs
“I love you so much that the love has actually inverted on itself, and now it’s hate. I kind of want to kill you.”
Ok well I was going to try and double back and roundup the rest of the bands I neglected from before but it's virtually impossible to not want to sit down and write this Lodro bit now so I'm just going to.
LODRO. Opened for Napoleon, Slander and Weekend at Shea Stadium on 4/26 or 27 or something and I couldn't believe how unshakably attached I was to their live show. It would be the first of 3 times that I've seen them in the past 3 weeks and every single time is exactly what you're hoping for from the same band you saw not-particularly-long-ago. I couldn't even tell if the set was exactly the same I didn't even care I was singing along to dark basslines I was humming scathing guitar bits immediately after a song finished. It makes sense that they're being picked up for what seems like every gig in New York City right now. I'll probably be at them. EDIT: Now that I think about it I haven't found a list of their upcoming shows anywhere I just see the name on an event and change every single one of my plans to make it. Follow them on Twitter for updates as to when these are.
Other tidbits that can be easily found other places on the internet: Lesley used to play bass in Friends and all three of them are mems. Royal Baths so their quality isn't exactly untested.
So it feels kinda weird writing this because Total Slacker is one of those bands that has always been on my radar for one reason or another but that I've never really latched on to. Not that it matters--people fucking love them and they've started this sort of residency-but-not-quite at Pianos lately. Life Size Maps has opened for the show in the past and they had Lodro in the night I went (more on them later). Convulsions were had on stage, guitars were smashed together in an only-homo-erotic-because-you're-in-a-weird-mind-place-right-now way, and Zoe kept her shit entirely together while Tucker extended one song into the noisy abyss of until-I-feel-like-it's-over.
I almost posted a video of their latest Newtown session but I prefer to include stuff that reflects live show vibes more.
Enjoy.
These are all crazy out of order but whatever power on.
"Shark? is a social utility that connects beer to your face and if you're lucky maybe even a girl, but most likely a PA to your foot and fuzzy memories of midnight tacos" --FB
I'm not going to go into a whole spiel about Sharkquestionmark because I like Shark? like I like EULA--they're everywhere and their just damn good. I last saw them at Cameo w/ Sleeping Bag + Speedy Ortiz. Everyone should def check out their album (I like Die Alone and Down Low) and see them on the next avails occasion. Hint: it's 5/16 @ Death by Audio w/ Radical Dads, Mean Creek and Haybaby.
I'll always go for the live video over a music vid in a post but here's a link to one of theirs cuz I like it and it happens to be for the same song and newer.
I saw Advaeta on the same night as Bueno back in January and tbh...I was ready to hate on these guys so hard when I saw them setting up. I was actually only really at Shea that night to do some recon for a party we were throwing but I'm never one to LEAVE a show I'm already at without checking some stuff out. Amanda's guitar seemed huge--like, shes-going-to-fall-off-her-wedges-stop-wearing-those-and-playing-that huge. Something about their setup just couldn't prepare me for the coming noisefest. Long-form crash festival with just enough riff to keep you from denouncing it as the whole world going to hell. I really liked it...visited their bandcamp for a while (pretty sure now that it was work keeping me from giving them and Bueno a thorough repeating) but would definitely see again. Which is convenient cuz they play @ Shea on 4/27 with Speedy Ortiz, Aye Nako and Butter The Children.
Three out of the five bands listed as their "influences" on FB are ones I've seen around lately so it makes sense that I felt like I had been missing something when I saw them with Advaeta and YVETTE at Shea in January. I haven't gotten to see them since, but apparently they have some ties with Sofa Club that I will investigate further when I get to that post.
Honestly, I took a pass at their bandcamp and didn't really go back (could also be because January was a hellacious work time for me) so I don't have MUCH to say which means check it out for yourselves.
I also can NOT find a video, but FORTUNATELY the video for their track The Street (also embedded below in lieu of flashy movie) drops this weekend so I'll add it once its avails
EDIT: avails.

Brief break: Aputumpu 2013 is here and I will be helping to hold down the fort at The Studio at Webster Hall tonight on general coordination help duties. Come by!
Two favorites for the night: Not Blood Paint & Friend Roulette
Set times:
7p - Modern Rivals
7:40 - Manican Party
8:20 - Friend Roulette
9p - Cultfever
9:40 - Not Blood Paint
10:20 - Computer Magic
A friend was in town for his birthday weekend and we were both more than pleasantly surprised that we both planned to hit this show for separate reasons (me for my Speedy Ortiz habit and he for Sleeping Bag). He said he had found them randomly via Spotify and it turned out to be one of the best nights ever (met some great people after).
Marginally shoegaze-y but riffy enough to keep me up/excited the entire time. I'm a sucker for a riff. Top three for me: Acer, Saturday Night, Allison Cole.
Hard to find recent videos, so this one is kind of old but the point is...the drummer is their singer and they play their sets without a whole lot of tearing around.
