Opportunity to Participate in Academic Research!
Are you a user of online spaces such as polcompball, r/newwackyideologies, r/politicalcompassmemes, Jreg or r/democracyofreddit? Then I need your help :))))
Hi there! I'm an MA Political Communication student from the UK conducting a study on spaces of abstract, niche or creative political ideology online, and I'm looking for participants to help with my research. Within this study, I am aiming to study the unique communicative properties of online spaces such as those listed above that engage in inventive political theory discussion and help explore how this connects to broader theoretical and political concepts that mark current trends.
I will be conducting a series of semi-structured interviews with participants which will only take approx. 1 hour and will consist of 10 questions + follow up questions. I'm looking for a range of participants from those who heavily contribute to these spaces as well as those who simply lurk and enjoy the posted content. The questions will range from what political or social forces are encouraging you to engage in this space of political discussion, to how you feel discourse is conducted within these spaces, to what implications you feel this style of political discussion will have / is having on the broader political landscape.
ALL DATA WILL BE COMPLETLEY ANONYMISED AND YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IS NOT NECESSARY FOR PARTICIPATION. Interviews will be conducted online and so you can participate from anywhere in the world. Following ethical guidelines you must be 18+ to participate in this study.
This MA work in itself has the potential to be academically published and I intend to extend this research into PhD research that will go on to be published as part of my Doctoral thesis. This is a unique opportunity to discuss political/communicative theory and ideology which will then be transferred into academic research. There is currently a huge gap in the literature to adequately discuss online political spaces such as these and as such, if you participate in this work you will be taking part in seminal research.
