ed hated having to go out into the streets of his beloved and tormented city these days. the overcrowding issue was beginning to become a bit too much for him and he was sooner ready to launch attacks on the newcomers over favor of his usual methods of initially making them use their brains. still, he had an elaborate ploy to get up to and annoying newcomers be damned; there was a colony of bats to take down. as he leaned down to spray paint a green question mark on one of the walls of the bank, he stopped halfway when he felt a presence behind him. heaving a sigh, he threw his head back. “WHAT!? can you not see that i’m busy!?”
Selina really did not care less for the message that was sent by the GCPD either way she is gonna do what she wants because no curfew is ever gonna stop her she is on the rooftop looking around the city. “Does the GCPD really think this is gonna work with everything that is going on in Gotham?” she asked herself.
“oh please, they don’t think - don’t be absurd to assume that much of them.” ed responded, standing behind her and peering down from above her shoulder from her position on the roof. “but it’s a pleasantly good thing for you, is it not? more riches to put your little paws on? i realize you were talking to yourself, but i tend to have a overhearing problem, care to share what you think would work?”
“they say that red is only worn by those who generate a lot of blood stains, wouldn’t be a surprise when it comes to you.“ he gave a short pause and raised his brows before breathing out a short, disappointed sigh. “though when it comes to you, i could only assume that the stains are about fifty percent yours, am i right? still, you’ve been in gotham for a long time, how about we make a deal and i’ll steer clear from you and you can keep gotham clean of all the infestation issues it’s currently having. sound good?”
letting out what seemed to be a more than over-dramatic sigh, ed rolled his eyes from behind his glasses as he stared over at harley. “i don’t want to play any games with you, your boyfriend or whatever he is did this to our city, and now look at it! it’s a mess and overcrowding has really become quite the issue.” he folded his arms over his chest as he debated about side-stepping around her and making his way towards the elaborate set-up he’d been working on all night. “want to help? get rid of some of the tourists,” he muttered, finally shoving past her and making his way to his riddle-marked room.
with a solid clap of his hands, ed appeared from around the corner he’d been hiding behind to confront one of the ‘wonder’ people who definitely didn’t belong in gotham. “you made quite the short work of those assailants, now - how would you like to have some real competition?” he asked, giving her a quick grin as he raised a brow at her. “i know these streets wonder girl, but you do not - find me at the place where the bat begot.” with a laugh, the riddler tipped his hat and disappeared back behind the corner to wait for her at crime alley. how he knew who batman was? it was a mystery, and one he wasn’t keen on sharing with anyone.
Cissie let out a frustrated sigh. She’d been out patrolling sticking to rooftops to over see things in the city easily and only getting involved when necessary, afterall she had hung up her bow and only now picked it back up again because of the crisis. Her eyes refused to blink behind her red mask keeping her composure so as not to give away any move she might make. “I’m definitely rusty if you’re trying to sneak up on me.” She said rolling a fresh arrow in between her fingers in case she needed to use it.
“sneak up on you? oh no-no-no, i don’t sneak - if i wanted to ‘sneak’ you would have never heard me, silly girl.“ ed stated, his tone starting light and ending with a serious and menacing tone as he stepped closer to her, a smile of ill-intent on his lips as he gleefully whirled his cane in the air. “i see you’re back to patrolling my city, say; ‘what do you call an arrow that’s lost it’s place?’ and do try to not disappoint me, i’m practically spelling the answer out for you.”

THE QUESTIONNAIRE
WHERE WAS YOUR CHARACTER WHEN THE JOKER TOXIN WAS FIRST RELEASED? HOW DID THEY REACT?
ed was in gotham, awaiting to spring another riddle-trap on one of the batfamily, that or commissioner gordon - he hadn’t decided yet - when the joker decided to release his ‘masterpiece joke’. ed scoffed at the name but admired the grand-scheme of it all, even if it meant that gotham would now have an even bigger overcrowding issue than it already had. ( let’s say he’s less than thrilled, but hey! more annoying idiotic so-called heroes to try to figure his riddles out ).
HOW LONG HAS YOUR CHARACTER BEEN IN OR RETURNED TO GOTHAM? WHERE ARE THEY CURRENTLY STAYING?
after a few stints in arkham, though he considers it close enough to be gotham, ed really hasn’t left the city and now that it’s the only livable place without becoming a mindless joker freak, he’s happy to stay and live a semi-normal life within it’s now heavily armored walls.
sometimes he’s considered doing something that would catch the bat’s attention just so he could go back to arkham. at least it’d be quieter there.
IF APPLICABLE, HOW ARE THEY CONTRIBUTING TO AIDING GOTHAM IN QUELLING ITS GANG VIOLENCE AND STOPPING THE JOKER? OR ARE THEY CONTRIBUTING TO THE CHAOS OF THE CITY?
he’s not aiding at all, in fact his little games are just becoming more and more elaborate and dangerous. and since his fellows in crime are becoming more and more vocal, ed’s beginning to wonder if he should pull them into trying to solve his riddles too. ( which hey, maybe he’ll be the head cheese after all - then who would bow to him? the minions, probably ).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
i liked some bits about how ed was portrayed in gotham, so i’ll be taking heavy influence from that and the arkham games ( along with various bits of comics and other media i’ve read and seen over the years ).
one thing for sure is when his ‘sane’ voice comes in, i’ll write it in italics versus his normal conversation which will be in bold.
i’ll be adding more to this as we continue and i’ve plotted more with everyone !
