"Hail, Tribune. Alius Oilfinder, reporting as requested, sir."
Alius stiffened into a salute, thumping his chest heavily with one greasy, oil-streaked paw. The tribune was tinkering with something laid out across the heavy metal workbench- if he was a couple hands taller, he might've caught a glimpse.
The tribune stalked forward, claws scraping on the floor with a dull sound that made the fur on the nape of Alius's neck prickle. Goreblade's eyes narrowed, eyeing the papers gripped in Alius's other paw- streaked with grime, but distinct enough that any officer could recognize at a glance.
Finally, with a rumbling sigh, he returned the salute.
"Resigning, soldier? I'm not surprised- your old 'band's gotten itself into a damn mess. Hand over those papers.
Let's see here. Former legionnaire defected, you've been gladium for the rest of Bangar's little rebellion. Is this correct, soldier?"
Alius was quick to bark his reply, eyes glinting.
"Yessir. Served my full tour up in Drizzlewood, after the warband got served orders. Used to work up in the oilfields, harvesting from elementals. Never got released back to work, what with the 'band split up."
He leaned forward, a sly grin on his face.
"Y'know, I've always been impressed by you fierce soldier types-"
"Save it for someone that's interested, Gladia."
At the Tribune's low snarl, Alius straightened back up, trying to keep a sterner expression on his muzzle. Still, the tip of his tail twitched with amusement.
After a moment, Goreblade stamped the orders, the Iron legion's sigil gleaming in wet ink.
"You're resigned. Now, double-time out of my office, or I'll have your hide for a rug."
----
He'd gathered up his few belongings- a pawful of copper coins, his uniform, and an old spear from where he'd stashed them in Gladium's Canton.
Wrote several letters to what remained of his old warband. No other goodbyes to say as a Gladium.
He'd have to find rations on the road, after handing over a decent chunk of his pitiful savings to a snappy Asura. But as he stepped towards the odd, shifting surface of the asura gate, all Alius could feel was bone-deep relief.
In Lion's arch, city of pirates and thieves, his reputation would matter just about as much as the dust in his boots.
(Finally the first post!! As stated in the pinned post, I'm starting him at level 35 so I can go to areas I don't usually hang out in as much, with his "home base" being Lion's Arch!
Future entries will be more journal style, with the occasional scene like this sprinkled in)
