Moon’s sleep is restless. Nightmares of Ultra Space and Nihilego haunt her- it’s relatively the same dream, except twisted in worse and worse ways every time.
She jolts awake in a cold sweat, heart racing and mind on overdrive trying to recover from a vision of the Nihilego Mother Beast. The covers of her bed quickly become disorganized as she gets up to do something- anything that will quell her nightmare.
Stargazing.
In Kanto, it was her favorite pastime, and in Pallet Town, the sky was completely unobscured to the stars. In Alola, Moon thinks, the sky is much prettier.
On the beach front near her house, the air is humid but breezy, and Moon immediately feels calmer. Not normal, but calmer at the very least. She takes a seat in the sand and settles down to continue her favorite activity.
“Moon?” A familiar voice calls from behind her.
“Lillie… I didn’t know you stayed up so late.” Moon replies, watching as Lillie walks down to the beach and takes a seat by Moon.
“It was a nightmare.”
“Same here.”
The two sit in silence until Lillie prompts a question. “What are you thinking about?”
For an awfully broad question, Moon can give a lot of answers. Ultra Space. Lusamine.
“You,” Moon slips and says.
“Hm?”
“I don’t know. You’re just so brave and kind and you’ve been through so much…” Moon thinks about shifting closer to Lillie, but the person in question does exactly that before Moon can.
“Thank you- and you as well. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you.”
“You’re flattering me, Lillie. I wouldn’t be the same. You’ve taught me a lot as well.” Moon smiles, a light tint of red appearing on her olive skin. She’s thankful that it’s so dark out.
“Moon?” Lillie prompts after a few moments of silence. “Can I tell you something?”
“‘Course.” Moon replies absentmindedly, mentally tracing a pattern of stars into the shape of Nebby.
“I- I don’t know how to say this-”
“Be honest and you’ll be fine.”
“I like you. Like, a lot. Oh, that was really straightforward. I’m sorry if that was awkward…” Lillie turns away from Moon, brushing hair from her face in a nervous instinct.
“It’s okay because I do, too. You’re more than a friend to me.”
Lillie wraps Moon in a hug- a tighter hug than when Lillie left for Kanto two years ago. “Nobody’s said that before…” Lillie seems choked-up. “Thank you, Moon. Thank you so much.”
Moon laughs, running her hand through Lillie’s hair. “I love you, Lillie. Remember that.”
Lillie pulls away from the hug. “I love you, too,” she replies, smiling brightly and wiping a tear from her eye.
Moon notices that the sky seems a bit brighter than before.
