This is dangerous misinformation. Gaussian blurs are easily reversed well enough to allow facial detection. http://smartdeblur.net/ is an example of a consumer-level tool that can do it; more professional tools can do it faster and better. Black out what you want to obscure entirely, don’t blur it.

My latest game project is out now.
okay i think what i’m gonna do is write out the visual novel, first a rough outline of what decisions lead to what outcomes and then flesh it out with actual dialogue and text, then try to figure out how to program it, then find some free to use photos and run them through some filters to make backgrounds, then find some free to use music to create background music, and then use test images to make an alpha of the game. and if at that point all is well, then i’ll try to commission an artist to make character art, tho it’ll be expensive lmao. art ain’t free, tho, and there ain’t free to use character art. well, there is, but it’s mostly high school anime girls from what i was able to research and that doesn’t fit the tone of the game.
right now i’ve got a rough outline of the plot, a list of dramatis personae (tho no character names as of yet), and some feachies i want the game to have (mostly influenced by how i want the plot to go).
so the idea is you’re investigating a mysterious death, and the client only has enough cash to pay you for a week. since there’s only so many hours in the day, you can only investigate so much during that time. at the end, you’ll be asked “what happened,” and there will be a right and wrong answer. there’ll be red herrings in addition to actual clues, so depending on your choices you can get a bad end or you can get a good end, with some variation depending on how many clues you got and how you answered. i think in order to make the game make sense, the choices you have will depend on the clues you gathered and actions you took. so if you found the coroner’s report and followed up on certain clues, you’ll have one solution, but if you focused on something else you might not have an option based on the coroner’s report. and if you couldn’t find enough clues you might not be able to answer. there’ll be a hint character, though consulting him would spend time that you could have spent investigating. i think there’ll also be a friend to the main character you can talk to, but talking to her happens at night and won’t influence the outcome, it’ll just be there to flesh out the characters and the world. so optional fluff. and, of course, there’ll be fail states where if you do the wrong thing at the wrong time you get a game over. i hope to have a journal system so you can refer to case notes to influence how you investigate, but that might be too difficult for my first game.
anyway that’s the basic idea. if this goes well i might try to make more, and possibly sell them, but for now the idea is to just distribute it for free (which means, with the art, doing it at a loss). when i have something to playtest i’ll ask for playtesters, which will of course result in a credit for you (as meaningless as it might be) but that’s getting a little ahead of myself. any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated

maybe the conversations with the friend should be a sort of morality system. where your answers can influence which direction the story goes. so like, for true end only (if i can figure out how to make that work) if you discuss killer vigilantes and are disgusted with the idea of killing criminals, at the end you have a pacifistic outlook about the crime and encourage the sibling to do the same. but if you have a positive response to them, even saying that they’re justified, you could kill the person who did the crime (tho imo that would be the non-canon ending, since this would be a series with the same main character). and if you’re ambivalent you could scar them for life? it’d give the conversations some gameplay implications that wouldn’t be obvious at first glance… something to consider

Here’s a minigame I made in a few days incorporating input from a Patreon backer. It intensifies as your score increases but doesn’t have discrete “levels” or an ending. If the sound bothers you, mute the tab; sound isn’t necessary for gameplay.

I’ve updated Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand a couple times since my first post about it. The gameplay’s the same, but there are a couple small UI changes and you can now download a Windows .exe version. You might need to do a shift-reload to get it to run if an older version is still in your browser cache.
I have plans to roll out a stronger Internet presence for Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand in the near future, but for now it’s just this landing page and mentions on my existing social media accounts.

I'm diving back into that archive and writing about my reactions, several times a week. Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand is a Metroidvania-style platformer for desktop Web browsers.
Here’s the game I’ve been working on for the past few months. I’m hoping this is the one that finally lets me break through from total obscurity into the lower echelons of the indie game universe.
I'm now in the process of making enough short chiptunes that every room of Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand can have its own. Here’s a copy of the music engine the game will be using, loaded with the tracks I've made so far. A few of these tracks are simple variations on others, but most are unique melodies. I especially recommend #11.
I’ve been working on a small, quirky Metroidvania for the past couple months, posting builds every week or two to my Patreon. As of this week it’s in a state I’m comfortable previewing to the general public, although there are some elements left to fix and finish. If you appreciate this project, please tell your friends about it. It’s hard for a game like this to get noticed without an advertising budget.
mythological vignettes
Going into the month of June, I asked Patreon backers for mythological figures. I got Kujata from James Skarzinskas, Slenderman from Valerie Loveland, and dryads from Tobi Lukefisher, then I sat around watching Doctor Who all month and programming Hyper Pixel Ten Thousand. I didn't forget about those prompts though; here are some assorted poems/observations/cheap gags around them.
There's a cosmology where an angel is holding up the Earth and the angel is standing on a rock. The rock is on top of a giant bull, and the bull, Kujata, stands on a giant fish, Bahamut. This assumes a flat Earth. Suppose we take a modern spherical conception, but not one with plate tectonics and a core of magma. Take the legendary model of a hollow Eath. Instead of an angel beneath it, we place a giant turkey inside it. Inside that turkey we can place a duck, and inside that duck we can place a giant chicken, probably not named Bahamut.
On a would-be biking tour of the Peloponnesus, I chained my bicycle to an oak tree in a lovely scented grove and found myself filled with a desire to sleep. It was a lovely sleep. When I awoke, my bicycle was gone. I searched for the tree I had chained it to. The tree was gone. Dryads had stolen my bike. I'm telling you this story because it happens a lot and you should be aware of it.
