⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; “…it is because I reside in such a large city, that there’s more slums and poverty. There’s other places that are miserly to a large degree, though.” Now, if only he could recall that one island’s name, simply because there were numerous places whom were at a subsistence level. Not enough to even have access to clean water or other basic amenities. Eventually, the screensaver covered up whatever was on the sluggish slideshow, prompting Ryusei to slip it back into his pocket. “Many people here can live up to their 80s, at most. Some other places, someone would be fortunate to even live half of that average.”
Jude remained silent as he listened, his lips pulled into a thin line. As the screen faded into black, the teenager rocked back to his normal stance, his eyes again raising to met the cobalt irises of the taller. "--Seems like you guys... Could teach us a few things." Sure, he has seen a few people that were 80... But not enough as to say 'many'. Especially not in the city he was so used to, which was bathed in the eternal night of spirits. "...We rarely see anyone over fifty," Jude admitted, with a soft smile, "Most of the people croak before that, though." Probably because of lack of genetic diversity in the populations of most areas and relatively primitive technology in the field of anything but weaponry.
⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; He whips out his handy, dandy communication device. Fortunately, he salvaged his SIM card after Gau wrecked his phone after an altercation of a woman whom cannot get the hint, so all his photos weren’t lost in time and memory. Ryusei navigates through the gallery, and showcases photos of well-known landmarks and natural scenery. “There’s ‘crapsacks’ everywhere, but there will always be diamonds in the rough. And we have more ‘diamonds’ than dereliction here.”
"--..." Jude's defensive demeanor melted into one of innocent curiosity--Of both the cellular device and the scenery depicted on it's screen. The only tourist-worthy scenery that his own world had was in between Spirit Climes--Whose unnatural interaction was of human interference. The beautiful landscape that resulted of it was simply a lucky, unexpected outcome. "...There's no arguing with that," The teenager mumbled, still memorized by the screen.
[ Headcanon ]─
Despite major character development when he is with Milla, Jude often reverts back to many of his old personality flaws when he is in a situation he is not used to, or simply when he is not around Milla. These flaws include being indecisive, passive, and basically overly dependent on other's opinions. Jude strives for acceptance and signs that people appreciate what he is doing, and will make whatever decisions he feels necessary for that outcome, rather than thinking about what he would want in the situation. However, after the final battle Jude does become a little less dependent, as he is being given almost constant reassurance that he is on the right track.
⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; “If the subject is alive, it’d be an ethical issue. And I know no undead with a beating heart.” Not to mention they fall apart easily—one nick from a knife can send a certain species’ organs flopping. “Are there so many doctors exposed to danger, that they need those still in training? What kind of crapsack do you live in?”
"--It's not so much as an abundance of doctors in danger, it's the amount of patients in danger." He offered a shrug, "Forget my previous description--I realize now that on-the-job training would be a better way to put it." Golden eyes narrowed, flicking in the direction of the ravenet. "--Crapsack? From what I've seen, it can't be that much worse than your own place of residence." There was just a lot of tension, and environmental balance issues--Which led to wars of various sizes.

⊰ ♥ ⊱ —— She was just on her way home when she met this stranger. Not that she was handling some business or anything, she just went to buy supplies and found this boy standing there in the village’s entrance. Judging by his condition, he must be really hurt. While she wanted to help him with a few healing artes she knew, the elders on the village must know how to handle injuries properly. Nodding at his request, Lina reached for a paper and a small pen, allowing the stranger to pick them from her hands. "Is it your first time around here? Not many people visit this village nowadays — who ends up here is usually lost." she mused for a little amount of time, after looking around. Nia Khera was a quiet village and as stated before, didn’t get this many visitors. A few people knew that Lord Maxwell appeared on this place years ago and she was now travelling through the world. Since then, she never saw Milla again. Quite a pity, actually — as for she really liked her.
Jude's eyes fluttered open and closed as his eyes finally re-adjusted enough for him not to squint in the blaring sunlight, as gloved hands gently picked up the writing utensil, as long as the thin paper. "Thanks." Was the murmur of gratitude he offered, accompanied by a small bowing of the head. As he rolled the wooden barrel of the pen in his hands, he fabricated what he was going to write... and to whom. A light flush of embarrassment came over pale complexion as nothing immediately came to mind. "--Oh, no. I've been here quite a few times." He explained, "Well, maybe not lately..." The teenager mused, a hand rising to cradle a slender chin. Even still, no one in Nia Khera paid much attention to the rest of the party other than Milla--Other than Ivar.
A look of pain flashed onto the boy's face before fading into one of exhaustion--His minor healing arte must have been wearing off. Not too surprising, as the action was rushed int the middle of a particularly hard battle. Jude was slightly surprised that he remembered what had happened--The arte was a risky one that he had been taught to use in times of emergency; due to it's hallucinogenic tendencies. A frown morphed the boy's features, as he looked with solemn eyes at hte young girl. "--I hate to ask so much of you at one time..." He began, "...But do you think you could help me over to the inn?" Which all-so-conveniently was located on the other side of town. "It would seem that the healing arte that I used a little while back is wearing off, and I don't know how far I can make it by myself." Looks like writing that letter was going to have to be a second priority, at least for now.
⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; “I don’t get it. Why don’t they, like…make you operate on something dead or whatever as a test? Practical application is what gets you around, in the end. One may know all there is, but they’re not good if they can’t apply it.” Ryusei thinks like a street urchin from the slums with a survivalist complex. No wonder his headmasters disliked him.
"--D-Dead? I don't think that would be a very practical test, either, there's no vitals to protect... And where I come from people take funerary customs very seriously, so that would be out of the question." Jude's stance shifted then; as he became a bit defensive. "Of course there are field requirements, helping out the injured when there aren't enough doctors around."
⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; “I've never been in school long enough to write one of those things.” Too busy being a rascal and disliking the system to stay in school for too long. “So it’s technically an essay or report to get a prettier paper?”
"When you put it like that, yeah, I guess so." His wording definitely made it lose a bit of it's important nature--So much so that Jude almost felt embarrassed for holding it at his highest priority.
⊰ ☠ ⊱ ;; “What’s a ‘thesis’?” Asks the one who is eating a sugarcane stripped of sugar.
"--I guess you could say it's an essay compiled of personal research. Most of the time it is written when one wants to get a degree or something. Like for me, it's to graduate medical school, and by extension, a doctorate."
