“Mother of Dragons” : She brought dragons to life, the last dragons in the world, after more than a century of being extinct.

How many people can say that they have done most of these things….on their own right…

I know it is a fandom joke - “lol daenerys and her hundred titles”, but in a world where men get to hold titles for no reason other than their birth, and are immediately respected by people of westeros and real world fans alike for the smallest acts of goodness; I have no issues with Daenerys’s million titles which she earned through her hard work, intuition and wits.

Also it reminds me of this poem by Warsan Shire:

You can’t throw a brick in the fantasy section of Barnes and Noble without hitting a Tolkien knock-off character with 20 titles. The only difference is that Dany is female. Literally that is the reason people joke about this and accuse her of not earning her titles.

There is no need to look beyond ASOIAF even. It has countless characters (the vast majority of whom are men) with many titles. Take for example a Lord of a small castle on a small island lost somewhere in between the Vale and White Harbor:

Godric Borrell, Lord of Sweetsister, Shield of Sisterton, Master of Breakwater Castle, and Keeper of the Night Lamp.

Keeper of the Night Lamp … 

Yet somehow it’s Daenerys who is “narcissistic” and “entitled” … She never asked her people to call her by these titles, they are the ones who bestowed them on her.

The Unburnt, they called her, and Mother of Dragons. 

And it’s the same with her other titles.

Wow- so, I often hear how miscast Alfie Allen is as Theon, which I honestly disagree with. I mean, when we are talking about hair color, eye color, complexion- who among the cast WAS cast exactly like the book descriptions? Honestly no one. Maybe Sansa? But I had never heard someone say that Kit looks like the Theon book description and Alfie looks like the Jon book description before. And you ARE right about this, wow. I mean as Alfie's hair got blonder (or redder according to the way your eyes work) he looks less like Jon- but in the earlier seasons when he definitely had brown hair, you are right, I can see that! And it made me laugh a little also because apparently, they had Alfie audition for Jon Snow (and Viserys and Robb) before finally bringing him into audition for Theon. And Kit has often said in interviews that if he could have played another character, he would have liked to play Theon. So I thought that was really interesting. It feels like a role reversal fic almost lol. It would have been wild to see them in the opposite roles like that. Though, I'm still glad that it was cast the way it was!

Alfie Allen as Theon is king of my fandom heart. This is how Theon looks to me now, forever. He put his everything into this role, a role that lesser actors would have shrunk away from. He played Theon's pathos, humiliation, ugliness, and, ultimately, his strength. This performance is sooooo slept on. It was masterful. It was sublime. Daenerys' storyline in ADWD is a good way to complexify heroic narratives without invalidating the idealism of the savior. What is in question isn't the morality of freeing slaves (because that's already indisputable), but how to integrate them in society in a effective way when that goes against ancient traditions of subjugation. It offers an honest portrayal of power struggle, how the oppressing class does not give up their power easily, and in order to make a revolution stick you must give the oppressed the necessary tools to keep themselves empowered, the oppressed must be able and willing to reign fire on those who seek to put them in chains again. With heroic narratives there's always an extraordinary someone saving people from certain doom and everyone is happy. the end. But with Dany there's an exploration of the aftermath. Her storyline explores her struggle of wanting to do good, on trying to keep her people safe while dealing with powerful people who seek to maintain their hierarchies. It's an exploration of what power can mean to different groups. Power can be about subjugation but it can also be a way to prevent yourself from being subjugated. The great masters would not have behaved differently if Dany had proposed gradual and peaceful reforms on slavery, because they cared first and foremost about their status as a ruling class, and that status was only possible through the exploitation of other people, because for a group to be above requires all others to be below, stepped on by those above.
