Great post from @minnesotahistoricalsociety this week leading into the Gophers’ game at Michigan. We’ll play for the Little Brown Jug, originally left in Minnesota in 1903.
Looking back at the 103 years of Homecomings, it’s been quite a ride.
It’s homecoming week, Gophers! Get ready by looking at some sweet photos from homecomings past in this story.
Congratulations to the “M” Club Hall of Fame’s 2017 class! The new inductees were welcomed into the HOF last Thursday and honored at Gophers home events over the weekend.

Tomorrow’s night game against Michigan State has us looking back at Oct. 31, 2009. The Gophers beat the Spartans 42-34 under the lights during the first season at TCF Bank Stadium.
Congratulations to Lindsay Whalen and her fourth WNBA championship with the Minnesota Lynx! This pic is from her 2,000th collegiate point, which she scored during the 2003-04 season.
This Saturday the University of Minnesota will recognize the 1967 football team in honor of their Big Ten championship 50-year anniversary.
We are pumped to have these guys back on campus!
Saturday's football game will feature recognition of past and present service members as well as Minnesota's conference and national champions.
The captain of the 1967 Gophers went on to become a combat veteran.
Bronko Nagurski’s legacy is still going strong in his hometown of International Falls. The Koochiching County Historical Society includes an annex all about Nagurski. Bronko was already a legend playing for the Gophers 1927-29 before going on to a prolific NFL career with the Chicago Bears, and then a pro wrestling career. He settled back in the Falls and lived a quiet family life there until his death in 1990.
Pictures above (L-R): Bronko statue outside the musuem; artwork done by Jeff Johnston and purchased in notecard form by one of the OAG admins at the museum; picture of Bronko displayed in the lobby of a hotel in the Falls.
Pictures are not supposed to be taken inside the museum, so go visit to see more! The gallery contains a lot of great photos, replicas of posters and other artwork, information about Bronko and items that belonged to Bronko.
Rest in peace, Steve Hoag. The Gophers All-American and Big Ten champion in the late ‘60s passed away last week.
Bernie Bierman was definitely a champion.

Guys, it’s not Halloween yet. We’re not ready for this scary version of our cute Goldy.
Former Gopher Lindsay Whalen isn’t the only player returning to Williams Arena tonight. Lynx teammates Sylvia Fowles (left) and Seimone Augustus (33) have also played at the Barn before, for LSU in 2004. Whalen and company have their WNBA Playoffs home games on campus starting with tonight’s semifinal opener.
This was part of the scrapbook we shall refer to as the Scottie Dog Collection (same scrapbook that included the Seidel photos).
One of this account’s favorite people, Bruce Smith, died 50 years ago today. He is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, as he was in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II.
The current Gophers honored the 1941 Heisman Trophy winner on Sunday.
As 2017 Gopher volleyball starts tomorrow, let’s take a look back at the 1974 squad.
When Gophers quarterback Glenn Seidel suffered a busted collarbone during the 1935 season, these kids came over to cheer him up! Thanks to the donor of a scrapbook for this and many other gems that will make their way to our blog.
