Goldy Gopher was never president of the United States.
A team of students from the University of Minnesota sent their mascot, Goldy the Gopher, up to nearly 100,000 feet on a high altitude balloon mission. Goldy reached the edge of space along with experiments designed by the team of mostly Aerospace Engineering students. (Don't worry, Goldy returned safely to Minnesota.)
