self indulgence 😪

a part of me wants to find a way to fit rocky into my med-modern-ieval plague doctor infection au (i REALLY need a better name for this) so that grace can have someone to talk to abt stuff from his time without feeling insane, but he absolutely does not fit in to the storyline whatsoever 😪

as much as i love rocky, with my current cast, he would have a smaller role than i'd prrfer, but whatever 🫩

option one: rocky spawns in as rockitz or something, still speaking eridian and grace has to convince everyone that neither of them is a witch speaking in tongues, to let rocky stay, and then to teach rocky english. and also normal human things like eating, using the restroom, the fact that he now has a circadian rhythm and his body demands that he sleeps at the same time as everyone else (he ignores this), the fact that he sleeps longer, but can wake up. having dreams, etc etc. (this option is getting more appealing the more i figure it out)

option two: rocky spawns in his ball. i can't remember off the top of my head if eridians are loke humans where they exhale something different from what they inhale, but he would have a limited atmosphere. grace would have to figure out a way to hide rocky, and how to explain rocky to a society that still believes in blood letting. i don't like this opinion.

option three: rocky somehow finds a way to contact him, probably via a music box like object that spawns in grace's workspace. idk i think my brain rlly got going with option one 🥹

option four: i lock the fuck in and stick to my plot (that i still need to figure out HELP)

modern scientist gets drag-dropped into the 16th century

The world i want to throw him into is a sort of modern-medieval sort of deal, because i want to and i think it’ll be fun!

a good chunk of my world building inspo is The Dragon Prince, especially with the roles of Stratt, Ava, and David

I found myself making Ryland EXTREMELY sentimental and outwardly expressive. the amount of fics i've read where Grace has a bunch of jewelry, or got tattoos/scarring to represent stuff is too low, and it’s peak every time i read it.

He’s got mementos and reminders absolutely everywhere, he could do whatever he wanted on Erid, and there was nobody to look at him wierd, either! But now, he’s been shat out into a time period where anti-semitism existed because of cultural differences in hygiene 🫩

Fortunately for Ryland’s poor joints, a lot of Plague Doctors had caines, too!. none like The SuperCool Grabber Caine 3000 (tm), but maybe people won’t judge that aspect of him as much because of it! …or… they’ll be distracted by other things

Ive also seen a few fics where Rocky made Grace carry a first aid kit around, purley as a plot device. I kinda felt bad forcing him to cure the apocalypse with no modern technology, thus he has an extremely comprehensive first aid kit, and medical equipment.

I feel like it’d be funny if he just grabs a normal ass mask out of his kit, then immediately gets subjugated to the plague doctor bird mask 🥰

he obviously modified it quite a bit, but they did NOT want him to be without one.

i’m actually very proud of myself for this little amulet drawing 🥰

Grace falls asleep in Erid and wakes up during the opium wars 🥹

got this idea because my cousin wanted to play castle, so i told him i’d be the plague doctor. he called me ‘plague doctor grace’ (grace is my deadname but im lowk chill w/ it 😪), then i suddenly had this ABSOLUTE PEAK IDEA. wrote this on the playground and at an ice cream place:

plague doctor grace queen stratt knight carl general ava lieutenant david prisoner simon architect/ alchemist jack (? not rlly sure what his role would translate to)

grace spawns into the dark ages and has to find a cure for a disease that came from a mysterious lake in the middle of a dead forest. They call it the Blood Ocean, and in the middle of a famine, some in the kingdom of Siiohai (C.O.I. spelled out 😔) believe that this could be an infinite source of food. But all who drink from it soon fall very ill, the infection influencing their actions like a parasite. The early stages cause the infected to convince others to drink the blood, the later stage becons them to rejoin the blood; total assimilation. Grace can only describe it one way: a medieval zombie apocalypse. One special case peaks his interest: a soldier from a neighboring civilization was bitten by someone in the very late stages of infection. The pathogen entering the body that way created a unique opportunity that Grace can't ignore: antibodies. Not only that, but the infection seemed to have a significantly dampened effect on their mental state. Grace demanded they bring the man under his care, and no matter how much they refused, despite how much everyone in the kingdom hated him, both Ava and Stratt knew that this risk was worth it. …though, Ava had conditions.

Now Grace had to figure out a way to cure this plague, in the dungeon, with an angry prisoner who keeps getting called Butcher chained to the wall…
