Dagoth Ur welcomes you, Nerevar, my old friend.
The Poison Gardens yes that is voryn
this painting is sort of about the personal issues i headcanon voryn having and the whole thing symbolizes a cage, the question of whether its better to be free but with risk or stay safe but painfully constricted. The hands are supposed to reference the Dagoth family (or more specifically the matriarch, Voryns mother) and the hardship that comes from being born with expectations of getting a position of such importance as a high councilor, not being able to choose what you actually wanted to do with your life. I did also kind of want to contrast this with the kind of luxurious palace environment, despite voryns issues you should still keep in mind that this doesnt compare to the more extreme struggles of a peasant. I also just wanted to try and design a building interior that feels sort of House Dagoth.
the text on the pillar is translatable but i know its a hastle, so ill just say that its about not being able to escape fate, multiple implications when it comes to that

"...Is there singing in the Void? Dancing...? Surely the Dread Lord will at least allow poor Cicero to caper..."
my favorite skyrim character is, unusurprisingly, a mad evil jester who kills people.
OKAY SO i finally decided to actually start posting my art here on tumblr instead of hoarding it in my folder for months so...over the next few weeks there is gonna be a LOT of it
this one is like...from about a year ago </3 gawdawn
The Ruins of Holyrood Chapel, 1824, Louis Daguerre (French, 1787-1851)
Beauty holds the keys to his shackles. Beauty, and a love of great works. Great heights. His appetites are insatiable, thus his despair.
Vivec craves radical freedom, the death of all limits and restrictions. He wishes to be all things at all times. Every race, every gender, every hero, both divine and finite ...
… but in the end, he can only be Vivec

an appreciation piece for the Araynys Dagoth design and concept made by @unknownhomosapien and @roumanelli as can be found here and here thank you very much for creating those designs as they are incredibly elaborate and beautiful, they fill my head with inspiration and i have never seen sixth house designs as nice as these :3
this work depicts Araynys himself in front of a work-in-progress voryn mural, the gate is for identifying the location as the bone cavern Mamaea, i also liked the idea of different designs for the different House Dagoth servants, the one painting the ash statues at the forefront was slightly inspired by the jiangshi, having a talismas (fulu) type thing on the head
i chose a specific pose for Araynys that would remind of measurement, his thumb meets his eye and his eye meets the top fingernail of his right hand, forming a 90 degree angle (totally not referencing this kira yoshikage panel)
thinking on the concept of "mightly lessons of multiplication" i initially wanted to draw the floor entirely covered in standing ash statues, symbolizing the vast numbers of the sixth house, however it didnt make it into the final piece because of composition issues

Demonstration of masked possessiveness and yearning These are my headcanons. I wanted to paint something related to their dynamic that emphasizes their relationships main friction, that nerevars ambition and desire for freedom (to walk his own heroic path to power and change) clashes with voryns uncontrollable need (and selfish wish) to receive nerevars constant time and attention aswell as to have nerevar all for himself Bear in mind i believe voryn knows that he cannot have nerevar the way he wants and he understands his own selfishness, just sometimes lacks the self control. Hes also not the only one pained by this and nerevar too feels bad about it, he has even deeper issues and reasons for why he is this way I think this scene itself is kind of focused on voryns feelings of abandonment in particular close-ups:
Birth of Moon-and-Star I wanted to depict a scene where Nerevar first receives a vision of Azura. Nerevar was in a moment of desperation not sure whether hed survive, as he was attacked, diseased and lost the last of his money to bandits. Azura used this moment to tempt him into a deal, giving him her blessing in exchange for undying loyalty and perhaps a special favor. She was drawn to him because of his inherent ties to prophecy and ambition, Nerevar had no choice but to accept this destiny. I think the true extent of Azuras motivations should be left a mystery.
The demented beetles are in this case a reference to the prophecy and whats to come, also blurs the concept of time suggesting some kind of influence from Dagoth Ur (from the future), but again i want to leave it ambiguous. I actually wanted to make them moths at first but the ties to Cyrodiil could not be ignored
Heres also a study of Nerevar, obviously much later on in his life :)
and lastly, close ups of the first image:
Actually no I need to rant about people's stupid excuses for Emerald Fennell whitewashing Heathcliff. At this point I think it would be better for people to just blatantly come out and say "I can't see a brown man as a love interest" (even though Emily Brontë, a literal British white woman from the 1840s, could imagine it, so what does that say about you?). What really pisses me off is the people acting like it's woke to say "Heathcliff is a horrible person, so it would be racist and problematic to cast him as a POC!"
This is fucking Wuthering Heights we're talking about here. Pretty much every character is a horrible person in some way. What I want to know is why we're holding Heathcliff, and characters of color in general, to an impossible standard that white characters are never held to. Why do POC have to be morally pure angels in order for us to be acceptable in fiction? Why do you believe it's better to entirely erase a canon brown character than to portray him in a flawed way?
I won't say that Emily Brontë's portrayal of Heathcliff is anti-racist by modern standards, as she does fall into racist tropes here and there, but what made him a radical character back then is the fact that he's a fully fleshed out person, he's a central character (you could even argue that he's the central character, since the novel starts by introducing him and ends with his death), and the narrative implies that Catherine should have chosen him over Edgar, a white man. He isn't a flat stereotype or a minor background character with no name. Brontë allowed him to grieve and be violent and selfish and reckless just as much as the white characters; he's allowed to take up just as much space on the page as they do. Most importantly, we are asked to sympathize with him and why he acts the way he does, and how he is shaped by the racist attitudes of the white characters around him. Apparently that's still too radical for some of you. And Catherine is also part of a marginalized group! She's a woman, and she is bound by and negatively affected by gender roles and misogyny. She is also a horrible person. And I don't see anyone saying "Catherine should be played by a male actor, because it's problematic for women to be portrayed this way." Interesting.

My next Black History Month request:
Pick one of James Baldwin's works and read it!!! The Fire Next Time is an excellent essay, most of us are familiar with the quote on gay white people from The Last Interview but not the rest of it. If Beale Street Could Talk even has a movie!
I would sell my soul for the opportunity to forget everything and go through the Dark Brotherhood quest again to learn the story of Cicero again. I love him with all my heart
