Sniper for fun
Longtime readers may be aware of how much I relish an excuse to bully a company, so I'm sharing the wealth;
Clothing company Patagonia is currently sueing drag queen Pattie Gonia for "irreparable” harm to their brand.
To be clear; Pattie named herself after the region in South America.
So Pattie is asking people to politely ask Patagonia to drop the lawsuit.
I'm extending the invitation to all of you, because sueing a drag queen for 'infringement' in the current political cultural landscape is vile. Especially a drag queen who has raised millions of dollars for non-profits, uses her platform to raise awareness for climate activism, and fully aligns with Patagonia's apparent climate-conscious mission statement.
They're claiming they're sueing for $1. They're actually asking her to stop using her name, and pay over $1 million in legal fees. They're straight up harassing her.
In contrast, drag queen Jan Sport has a Jansport bag line. It's that easy to just... work with a queen.
Anyway. Be respectful(ish), but feel free to be annoying on Patagnoia's socials, asking them to 'DROP THE LAWSUIT'
I think they have a twitter and tiktok too!
just realized that the keyboard machine that grace uses at the end of the book is just essentially a voder! keyboard keys for frequencies, pitch pedal, speaker for output, all the works, used to synthesize speech :^)
I watched Project Hail Mary and I think it triggered something within me

I love Sundaydriver as much as the next person BUT HAVE WE CONSIDERED ADDING BELOVED MARGO INTO THE FLUFF MIX??? I PRESENT MY THESIS ON LARS x MARGO x DRIVER
Ps I can't think of their poly ship name but I think Margo x Lars should be called Teddybear because duh, and, here me out, Margo x Driver Buildabear because of Margo's teddy and Driver's hammer, so BUILD a BEAR. Get it?... Guys please I swear it's a great ship name
Anyways the idea is: After the both movies events, Driver has found himself stranded in the small town where Margo and Lars live. His car has ran out of gas and the nearest gas station was too far. He was sure he was gonna bleed out, but thankfully, Margo and Lars find him on their way out to the lake they now frequently hang out at. They take him back in town and hospitalized him. After he woke up, Lars and his kind family offered to let him stay at their home in the garage, and Driver hesitantly accepted and the rest was history. Driver is now a mechanic for hire in town, but also helps all across the small town to repay his "debt" for all their hospitality. Lars and Margo become friends with Driver, with Margo always trying to find ways to make him included and Lars helping Driver adjust in the town. Driver, at first was standoffish towards everyone in town and didn't want to stay long for fear of ruining the peaceful town, but he quickly becomes attached to the it and especially towards Margo and Lars.
They were two of the kindest and earnest people he's ever had the pleasure of meeting. He becomes very protective of them and slowly opens up to the both of them in small ways that count. They never pried for answers, they just listened and cared for him. So when they giddily told him they were both together now, he couldn't help but feel happy for the new couple despite how much he wanted to tell them how he actually felt for them both. He couldn't do that, not to them. It would utterly ruin the peace he had carved for himself in the town and his relationship with Margo and Lars. So, he kept it to himself like he always did.
Well that is until Lars and Margo notice the change in his demeanor. Driver grew colder and distant. So much so that one fateful night, everything became a disaster. Lars catches Driver running away and he picks up Margo to go sort it out. It ends with all three of them by the lake where they first found Driver. The two gently bring Driver back to his senses and he finally tells them the truth, all of it. It shocks them both, of course, that was exactly what Driver wanted, to push them both away by revealing how much of a monster he really was. But instead, after the initial shock, they both just hugged Driver and accepted him. They know he is more than the violence he is capable of and that deep down he is a good person.
They all return home, feeling said out loud, felt, and mutually shared between the three of them. That night, they all stayed in the garage, talking endlessly until they all fell asleep together. Driver still felt unsure of himself, but eventually warmed up to the idea of becoming part of Margo and Lar's relationship, after much time passed where the couple tried to open Driver up more and more. It was rocky at first, the townsfolk were little judgy, but after a good ol scold from Mrs Gruner, the town welcomed the couple soon enough. Driver felt like he finally belonged and had people to rely on.
Can you guys tell that I love drawing Margo hehehe THATS MY GIRLY RIGHT THERE GIVE MARGO SOME MORE LOVE

when i first read the project hail mary book, i thought it was alright, didn't dwell on it much. however, watching the movie butcher a few key points of it made me care about the book annoyingly too much.
what rubs me the wrong way about the movie is the way they unbalance the relationship of grace and rocky, and the relationship of grace and stratt.
in regards to stratt, i feel like the movie brings about this hyperfocus on grace as the main character that is too much, and it gives him this greater importance than he actually does have. this, in my opinion is what also kinda misportrays the relationship between grace and stratt. in the movie, you have the karaoke scene, but you also have the 3-astrophage scene. the 3-astrophage scene kinda pisses me off, because in the movie she kind of flippantly and too easily gives him the small sample to keep working on, whereas in the book grace has to essentially argue his way into winning them and consequentially his place into the project. grace is nothing, he was another part of a much, much bigger machine, and he fulfilled his part, that's it. stratt even berates his ass when he asks to keep experimenting, being like "you proved you were wrong, that's alright, move on." its only after grace yells about his kids and wanting to do anything he can to help them does she finally relent and give him the sample. she doesn't just freely give it away. i don't think she so much cares for grace, as she just cares about the world. grace is just a very small part of the world. i think this is why i feel a bit iffy with all this hyperfocus on "the trauma/regret eva must be feeling because of what she did to grace", because grace was just a small part of it. she comforts grace the say way she comforts leclerc during the nuking of antarctica: an entire planet compels sacrifices. right before she's about to administer the amnesia drug to grace, she laments on the chaos that awaits the world, the terror of it, and how she's doing everything to try and prevent that, much like grace said about his kids. its why she reminds grace of them again before hes put under.
now in regards to rocky, they made him kinda... stupid? in the book, not only does grace spend so much time thinking about how cool, and smart, and intelligent, and ingenious, and special rocky is, but as you read you very much get the sense that grace is immensely lucky to have come across rocky, because nothing was gonna get done otherwise. rocky does essentially everything, and grace has some smart moments :p with the movie, he feels a bit more... pet-ish? maybe a wee infantilized? i don't know how to describe it exactly. but, to me, movie rocky and grace don't feel as much as equals as they do in the book.
and all of these i feel culminate in downplaying the adrian incident scene. in the movie, its shown that grace passes out, rocky breaks a part of his compartment to go and pull grace out of the chair, then takes himself back to its compartment. outside of the logistics (if rocky broke his compartment, that would release severe amounts of ammonia into the ship which would kill grace for sure, nevermind the high temperature and pressure. even if you try to think that maybe rocky fixed it before conking out, the ammonia is still in grace's environment, but also rocky is fucking dying immensely quickly in grace's environment so how the fuck- anyway), the picture this paints of their relationship feels a bit shallow. like, yeah rocky is saving grace because he's the main character and that's how it should go (to put it extremely cynically). whereas in the book, rocky (who comes out of his compartment through the airlock of his tunnels) get grace out of the chair and conks the fuck out (i cannot stress enough the 27 atmospheres and insane levels of ammonia he requires), then grace, after immediately righting the ship, gets right to getting rocky back to the tunnel, which is gruesome work because of rocky's weight, and because of the physical damage he undergoes (the ammonia spray burns in entire arm essentially). i feel like this is the shit that deserves the "platonic soulmates" ao3 tag, not the movie version.
