Kanjani8 and their lookalikes: Hollywood edition
yasu x Jack Sparrow’s Johnny Depp
ryo x Aladdin’s Mena Massoud
okura x Kylo Ren’s Adam Driver
Not a Hollywood celebrity (rather, one from the PH) but whenever I see *that* photo of Yassan, I cannot help but think of this:
Please keep me away from Mandarake I’m so tempted to spend money I don’t have on Eito playbills. If I ever get to watch any of their plays, I hope it’s Yasu’s and/or Uchi’s
How I wish I could find something like how I got most of Mabo’s playbills: an old fan decluttering and selling the pamphlets for a super low price.
Just a Yasuda-centric dream ^^ it felt warm and nice, but I can’t write beautifully huhu
I dreamt about being an event staff again. The event is something similar to UNASHAMED conference, but it's all my favorite artists. Imagine Kanjam, but 5 or 6 hours a day, at least 4 songs per artist, and an audience of about 7000, running for 3 days. I'm in Experience Team, basically the team that handles Technical/Stage/Documentation Management and Set Designs/gimmicks. Since I'm in core, there are two major assignments. One is we have an artist or two to focus on, and we also have an aspect we need to focus on for the overall event. As for me, I was assigned to handle Eito + WANIMA sessions, and for the general program, I'm in lights team.
Anyway, it seems like I'm in a run-through, and in the booth, I'm with Tacchon, Yasuda, and KENTA. And we're just fine-tuning details for the tech. *insert shop-talk*. Anyway as soon as it was over, I asked Yasu and Kenta if they could sign my guitars, and they said yes! (Ok, maybe one guitar is still kinda normal fan behavior, but apparently I brought both akogi and bass... yes.) Kenta told me to just pass by their room later on since he has another meeting, while Yasu said he'd accompany me to our staff room! *kyun*
Since we were at the topmost floor, and war room is at second basement, and somehow the elevators are shut off ???, I asked him if he'll be okay with stairs, or if I need to call for assistance or a wheelchair instead. "No worries, it's good therapy," he says with a laugh. But then he asks me if I'll be okay? I'm ????? why not????? And so he points at my leg, apparently my right leg is bound up in those neoprene things with metal inserts? I'm okay! :D (But since he pointed it out I started to feel how just much it hurts...)
So we start going down the stairs in silence. Then out of nowhere, he goes, "So, why are your glasses blue?" (like how a child asks uwu) and I think I just explained how much light intensity it blocks off and it delays the hurting of my head whenever I'm exposed to bright lights for hours. "Ah, it's the same for me!" he says. And I started feeling woozy so I just asked him what his top wish is at the moment and why, because I wanted him to just keep talking as we go down. I reaaally like his voice. And also I wanted to concentrate all my energy into listening and not tripping on the stairs. So he starts talking about getting a break and going to the sea.....
The next part I remember is Yasu humming. (It's *that* song, I don't know if it only exists in my dreams, or if it's an actual song in this reality, but I've heard it in my dreams over and over again.) We're seated at the stairs and he asks in sign if I'm okay. Apparently, I tripped a step, but I have no recollection of it happening. He lets me hold on to his shoulder as we continue to go down, and he just talks about random things~ (it just goes on like that, I understood what he was talking about but I really don't remember) The last thing I remember before waking up is him asking for input about his ear design. Hehe~!
Bonifacio commissioned Julio Nakpil to compose the anthem for the Katipunan. According to Ambeth Ocampo,
Sometime in November 1896, Bonifacio commissioned Nakpil to compose a “Himno Nacional.” Deep in the wilds of Balara, under constant threat of attack from the enemy, Nakpil was able to complete a short martial air called “Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalugan.”
Unfortunately, the original manuscript composition was burned in the National Library during the Battle for Manila in 1945, together with other historical papers. Nevertheless, Nakpil reconstructed the song in a manuscript dated 1953, and the lyrics read: “Mabuhay ‘yang Kalayaan! At Pasulungin ang puri’t kabanalan. Kastila’y mainig ng Katagalugan. At Ngayo’y ipagwagi ang kahusayan.” [“Long live Freedom! Uphold the cause of honor and piety. The Spaniards have been overwhelmed by the Tagalogs. Now fight for order to triumph.”]…
….Nakpil revised the 1896 anthem and enlarged it into “Salve Patria,” which was premiered at the Teatro Zorilla in December 1904, the eighth anniversary of Rizal’s execution. In this form the Nakpil anthem lives on, rearranged as a grand symphonic piece that reminds people of the unfinished revolution and its ideals.
The result was Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalugan (here’s the hymn, excerpted from “Salve Filipinas”)
Mabuhay yaong Kalayaan At Pasulungin ang puri’t kabanalan Kastila’y mailing ng Katagalugan At ngayo’y ipagwagi ang kahusayan.
For more information on the composer and his eventually marrying Bonifacio’s widow, see Julio Nakpil.

Zou (Elephant) - Kanjani8
This performance is taken from the Eightertainment tour DVD. English subs by me (with help from Caleb for some translations; we do Japanese → Filipino → English, so some errors may have multiplied, let us know about glaring errors in interpretation!)
I guess, I’ve always had a love-hate thing for a lot of Kanjani8 songs, but this song is probably cemented in the “love” pile. You can say I fell in love at first play :P (I mean, even Life took a bit of time) I can go on about how true/untrue a given part of the lyrics are, but that will make for a long post.
Anyway, maybe try to check this song out! You might stay for the sound! Or maybe the lyrics, or maybe both.

Resurfacing this because I’m having so many feelings about this song!!!
Can I just say, the flailing bit when I first posted this reeks of my Kanjimi3/OhYamaDa bias.
Recently for 8/8 (or as I’d like to call it, MugenDay) @abdulraveman did a Twitter poll about Eito songs, where my main takeaways are: 1) I have such unpopular song choices 2) except for Zou, which apparently a lot of people love. Thankfully it was in a separate tweet from LIFE and we got some interesting perspectives about the two songs. (Side note: I planned on posting the LIFE perf from Kanjam last year because, like, I love that perf so much, but, huhu, should I?)
Anyway Eighters are the best huhu honestly haven’t made any friends in the fandom yet (apart from the ppl I alr know irl) but like just seeing people’s posts, so much love
Aaa, I can’t wait to see 15sai... in DVD. :c I know there still are tickets for Tokyo Dome floating around, but a Japan trip for that is just impossible. Hopefully though, I still find someone who’s willing to get goods for meee huhu I reaaally want that Tacchon BOY (and ok maybe Maru/Yoko) and the Ranger book.
In recent news, Subaru’s set to release a new album! Tbh, I’m not even over his leaving yet, but I really hope he’s having a great time, 自由な名のもとに

Why Animation is Important for Kids and What They (And Adults) Can Get Out of It
I think that one of the benefits of me adoring animation as I do is that I’ve discovered one important truth about the medium: the art form of animation has the ability to teach younger kids values that are essential for developing into better people and facing some of the all-too-real issues awaiting them in adulthood.
The “She-Ra” reboot teaches kids about the importance of bonds and makes us connect with a relationship between a hero and a villain (Adora and Catra) to help us realize that the latter wasn’t always as evil as she turned out to be. With Catra, it teaches us with Catra that some bad people are lost souls trying to find a way to free themselves from their own hurt, even if we still don’t understand them or agree with them.
“Gravity Falls” can teach younger ones that the future ahead can be a sad, even frightening, experience, and the past can be an admittedly sweet retreat, but it’s always healthier in the long run to move forward. With Dipper, we see that sometimes, the quieter, less extroverted souls are the ones who are braver and wiser than we might imagine, and, when it comes to who they care about or what they care about, they will fight tooth and nail for it and won’t be held back.
The show teaches that, while not every family is the same or even incredibly close, they can help you through your hardest times in the road ahead. We see that, sometimes, the people from your family can be your best friends, and the love from them should never be forgotten or scoffed at.
“DuckTales” (2017) can teach kids about the incredible power of love, unconditional or familial, and its ability to help others in confusing times and, sometimes, save people. We see that with how Della’s love for her sons inspires her to fight every day to survive and, later on, inspires her to learn to be the best mother possible.
We also see that with Lena and how Webby’s friendship and unconditional love with her inspires her to be a better person and makes her see how toxic the abusive relationship with her guardian has.
Lena has an emotionally affecting storyline and journey of her own that probably connects with others who have either been in abusive relationships or times of their lives when they dealt with times or people that weren’t kind to them. Her story is a good way of reminding those who were abused or been in a bad relationship that the ones who truly care about us and love us don’t try to make us their prisoners or hurt us and, they can help bring us away from that cave of self-loathing and insecurity that we’ve been in for so long.
I’d even argue that “DuckTales” (2017) is a beautiful show for kids because of how it talks about heroism. Whether it’s with the triplets or Gyro or especially the likes of Lena, Drake, and Della, it teaches kids that heroes can come from the least likely places and from anybody. It teaches that heroes don’t always have to wear capes or have actual superpowers but can be loving, smart people wanting to do good in the world in one way or another and being devoted to the friends or family that they care about the most. They can be heroes through their selfless, passionate actions or the great example and values that they stand for.
“Inside Out” teaches kids about the significance of expressing yourselves emotionally in a healthy way, regardless if that emotion is different from pure happiness. “The Peanuts Movie” is good at talking to younger ones about the importance of moving forward after one’s failures and the unexpected but powerful impact that one loving person’s actions can have on another.
“Spirited Away” discusses the value of hard work and trying to adapt to the adult world as best as you can. It is essentially a wonderfully done fairy tale talking to its audience about a girl who, with her courage and the ties that she develops with the people in it, transforms into a more mature woman of sorts and learns about the value of selfless love and kindness in a frightening and ever-changing world.
I could go on all day, but I think that’s especially important to emphasize now. Kids are going to learn about values or ideas in a zillion different ways, and I believe that, more often than not, animation, whether it’s through a cartoon or a Disney film or so on, is one of the first mediums through which they pick some of these ideas up. Some people still scoff at animation or something from Disney and dismiss it as “only little kids’ stuff,” and that’s a shame. I think there’s a lot from these shows and movies, even ones that are marketed towards kids, that not only children but adults can learn from and get something valuable out of.
Sometimes, I think that animation helps adults maintain whatever innocence or childlike joy is still there as they advance more in their lives. I’ve certainly felt that for myself. In a world and times where things don’t always make sense (and, you could argue, seem to only get more frustrating or difficult), it’s good to not only encourage kids who love these shows and movies for sheer entertainment or emotionally felt storytelling but because I do believe that several of these works could play a role in helping them be better people, whether it’s through the morals, values, or ideas that they talk about or the hardworking, heartfelt characters that they identify with.
Those are my thoughts. :)
