She betrayed him. He wanted her to suffer for it. Sooner than he though, his plan shattered to pieces with the realisation no one would be left untouched after it was all over.
when one hands over their heart, they become vulnerableÂ
t: he thinks that youâre in love with me.Â
o: wellâŠ.
She was sitting in the hotel lobby. It was almost empty, apart from the staff and the few people dining outside on the terrace. The place was small, tranquil, located in some forgotten by god fishing village on the edge of the Adriatic. A normal business trip, supposedly. But she wasnât meant to be here, no, not really. A few meeting rearrangements had delayed their departure until the morning, but she didnât mind. After all, it was a rare opportunity to forget reality. However, as Paty approached her from the far end of the hall, she couldnât help but think of the ulterior motive she had to stay in such a remote place, hidden away from anyone who would care to look for them. Teresa should have immediately pushed that though away, but with the buzz of alcohol it seemed more than welcome. She felt relaxed. Safe. She knew it would be a lie to say she didnât bring them here to phantom the memory of that time, once upon another life, when they were hidden away from the world behind bars.Â
And all of a sudden, the memory is not enough. She thought she longed for the safety of being excluded from the world, but as she watches Paty chatting away, she canât help but think there was something more to it. Had they been somewhere else, in a different time or place, the thought wouldnât have crossed her mind. But not today. She wants to feel whatever it was that time. She thought the atmosphere and the place would be enough. But itâs not.
In the chase of that desire she curls her fingers around the back of Patyâs neck and pulls her in. Itâs impulsive, she knows, but itâs just one night and they can pretend. Everyone has always loved and wanted Teresa how it suited them, not caring much for what she might have to say about it. For one night she wants to be selfish, to have Paty on her own terms. Just for herself. Without thinking of the consequences. Because this is what she needs. To fully let go. Like she never dared to all those years ago.Â
She knows its wrong. She can already see the smile fade from Patyâs lips when she tells her it ends here. The eye roll, stupid comment and whatever else it takes for her to pretend it was nothing. She remembers Paty once said she destroys everything she touches, yet with the way she touched her that night, she knows itâs far from true. She realises something worse, that it is her who brings everything to ruin. In the end, sheâs learnt from the best.Â
The morning light seeps into the room, bathing it in a dirty grey colour. La hora gris. How fitting, she thinks, as she gently traces her fingertips over Patyâs skin. She seems to have finally understood the recklessness of the people who have died for her love. Some nights are worth dying for. This one most definitely was.
She places a soft kiss on Patyâs shoulder, before heading towards the bathroom. Perhaps⊠perhaps she should plan another business trip.
I respect you. I respect very few people. Youâre a leader.Â
they canât hurt us baby, weâre above the lawÂ
