My boyfriend of two years just broke up with me because he said I was too busy for him. It stings and hurts because he wanted a future with me and talked frequently about marriage, but is now acting all sorts of crazy after the end of the relationship. After only a few days, he started going after younger girls still in college (we’re in our mid 20s). He was insecure when my career started picking up this year.
I’m not going to change the ambitious, determined, bad bitch I am for any man, even if this breakup hurts like crazy. I work a demanding 9-5, own my car fully paid off, and even work freelance gigs to explore my creativity. I travel internationally regularly and pay for everything myself. I have a beautiful group of girlfriends that I love and I’m even thinking about going back to get my masters degree now post break up.
This isn’t going to break me, even if I feel so sad. Do you have any tips or thoughts on how to get over a break up?
As I read this I thought to myself wow she sounds amazing! It’s clear that this breakup hurts, but it also reveals how grounded you are in your values. Love this for you
What you’re going through also brings up something important... relationships require alignment, not just love. It’s about emotional maturity, values and how power dynamics play out. It sounds like you were more emotionally evolved and further along in life than he was, not just professionally but personally. And instead of growing with you, he got insecure. It’s clear he needed to feel dominant in the relationship, and when your light started shining brighter, he dimmed himself instead of rising beside you. That’s not your fault, nor are you going to water yourself down or settle, but it is useful information
Now, as for healing... take the time to grieve. We often think that just because something wasn’t our fault, we should be able to brush it off, but healing comes from letting yourself feel everything. Grieve the future you pictured, the version of him you loved and even the part of yourself that hoped he’d show up differently. Once you’ve felt it, learn from it. Take the wisdom with you, not the wound. Then focus on becoming even better and stay true to your potential and your own capabilities
I will say, and maybe this should be a separate post all together, but I would try to also understand why you chose this person, what your attachment to them was, and their overall qualities. I would also make a mental note to cover these type of things early on with the next person, so that you don't fall in the same situation. Like I said.. there is always something to learn about ourselves even if it was not our fault
Some breakups break the illusion that someone was capable of loving you the way you deserve. Let this be a chapter that reminds you of your resilience, not your ruin. You don’t have to make yourself smaller to be loved. The right person will match your pace and there are so many men in the world that can, will and absolutely will love you the same way you love
