Anyone have the gif’s of the Chilean goalkeeper Christiane Endler lifting two of her teammates with ease.
I need them for um reasons lol
Let’s take a look at it one more time
Just so we’re clear about what an absolute unit this woman is
Hi so I just wanna say I wanted to write a whole thing about it but honestly I’m just gonna say this.
Tuca and Bertie is great.
Despite them being cartoon birds that go on pretty wacky adventures, they are relatable and realistic in many ways and show both strength and the ability to grow from previous hurt and traumatic events which are both presented as extremely possible even if they are difficult and take time and support.
It hit my feels and whacked me straight in the back of the head, not just because of the events within the show but also because one of the characters is almost exactly me, right down to my past events and the way I react to different things. This character, even if she is just a cartoon bird, makes me feel so much less alone and I hope other people can feel that way about this series, no matter what you’ve been through.
Now off the personal shizz
Tuca and Bertie’s LGBTQ+ representation is actually pretty great. Nobody makes a face, nobody is surprised, there is no big deal about it! Like, there is no big reveal when Coach Meredith has a wife now after her husband passed away, there’s just such a fluidity to the whole thing that is just not even considered which I find wonderful. In a lot of media, I find that bisexuals or homosexuals have this little bit of editing that makes them noticeable like different music or a character reacting and there’s just none of it, even if it were a small detail. I don’t know what it is but it’s always made into a big deal. No big reveal nothing, it’s normal. Coach Meredith is normal, super normal. (Her wife makes eggs tho, which is a little more odd but just watch and find out since that’s what birds do) That is what I want the world to be like. I wanna live in Birdcity.
Sexuality is treated almost like the fluid thing that it is, nobody is labelled as straight, bi, gay, pan and I like that.
Also, just saying the art style, animation, the way the series looks and sounds? I LOVE IT its imaginative, creative, wonderfully executed and everything is expressed well and with clarity. Everything about the animation? Love.
This is just my personal opinion and sucky writing so if something sounds off please help sobs I’m just in love with this series because it makes me feel okay to be me, which is sort of the first time in a long time where I’ve felt okay to be me. Sounds a bit dramatic but I hope others understand.
Thanks for reading.
This scene was particularly important for both characters and the Meariri ship. It’s not like Mary to be so straightforward with her feelings, blatantly admitting friendship with someone in front of other people so easily. In ch60 she even went so far to the point she patted Ririka’s head and stated to be her friend while furiously blushing out of extreme embarassment because she was worried about her and didn’t want Ririka to ruin her life just because she was so invested in proving Mary she was worth of her friendship. And NOW, by persuading Ririka to take off her mask when she is with her, Mary’s basically telling her that she can pretend as much as she wants to be another person in front of others if that makes her feel better, but that IN FRONT OF MARY HERSELF she doesn’t need to wear one as in Mary truly appreciates her for what she actually is so again IN FRONT OF MARY she’s free to be herself. There’s nothing more positive in a ship than that, a bond where the two characters involved can freely indulge in their true nature and still be loved and appreciated by the partner. As I’ve always thought since day 1 these two started interacting, Meariri is smoothly sailing toward the CANON title and every day is closer to the deserved goal.
Final note:
I’ve come across a previous post in the tags saying: “Let the love war begin”. No dudes, there will be no love war because Meariri is already a step ahead, or many tbh and it’s gonna be canon for sure. There could be some rivalry between Ririka and Yumeko (no idea if on both side or not, but in this panel Ririka looks the only one with a threatening look, Yumeko’s kinda normal and we perfectly know the expression she makes when she wants to be scary) but I can clearly see something in Naruto or Fairy Tail style where the cute stalkers (Juvia and Hinata) were jealous of other girls (Lucy and Sakura) considering them love rivals but it was all in their minds and in the end the shy girls succeded into getting together with their love interest. Basically nothing but another form of fanservice (fake love triangle, that’s pretty common) when one of the ships was clearly meant to be misleading from the start (Yumary). Of course Mary cares about Yumeko, nothing to say about that, but she went out of her way more then once with her feelings for Ririka, much more than she ever did for Yumeko. She never openly admitted her affection for Yumeko be it with nice words or gestures (she did it for Ririka more than once), when Yumeko tries to be affectionate she always rejects her hugs while with Ririka she uses to show a softer side so unusual for her. And when they were alone in the infirmary and Yumeko was asleep, even then she never spoke softly to her, she never told something affectionate but instead just reconfirmed her feelings of rivalry for her. So basically what Yumary have is the typical frienemies relationship of shounen series (in Naruto and Sasuke style) mixed to the general erotic fanservice the series is focused on and the specific shipbait popular couples that are the cash cows of the series always get.
I’m gonna leave bs fanservice to Yumary, they can take it all for all that I care. Meariri is the REAL DEAL, that’s a fact. Just deal with it and move on.
I’m looking for some Mary x Ririka and Kirari x Sayaka fanfics. Can you please bless this poul soul?
Kakegurui Meta: Mary the Female Prince
A rather strange “crackship” has caught on in one of the Kakegurui Discord servers. For those of you who do not go on that particular server, Mary x Itsuki has caught fire and seems to be spreading.
My first instinct was “the chart says this is a bad idea.” Mary is our main Earth-type, and Itsuki was our first indigo Wood. Wood controls Earth, so isn’t the relationship automatically a little toxic? Hold that thought, we’ll get to it.
Now, if you don’t follow the chart, I see the appeal in this. You have the girl who comes from an average household with a fairly standard rich girl. Something about this still rubbed me the wrong way. Then I realized why it shouldn’t.
With the notable exceptions of Sachiko and Yumeko (both of whom have odd ways of showing affection), almost every girl Mary associates with is a Wood-type. This gets more uncanny as you look at the girls Mary is in pairings with.
Tsuzura from Twin, who has the most Grass in her name ever.
There’s something going on with Mikura from Twin, but I’m not sure what. It wouldn’t surprise me if she was a liberated pet that defected to Mary’s side. I can’t confirm or deny this. Please translate Twin. (I want to do a Sachiko meta.)
We can debate whether this is Ririka or Kirari, here. It didn’t quite work as planned. Metal/Wood, regardless…
…but MeaRiri definitely has Ririka showing the same “please protect me” side that Tsuzura once had going for her. If nothing else, Ririka acts helpless around Mary. Tsuzura and Mikura are also slaves.
If you look at all of these, you might have noticed that Mary has a major weakness for blue eyes. “Well, shouldn’t the chart predict that?” someone asks. Yes, her having a weakness to Grass-Type eyes is explained nicely by Wood controlling Earth, but that’s not all that’s going on.
A while back, I mentioned how all the lesbian pairings follow the generation/creation cycle - the outer ring on the chart. In contrast, all straight relationships follow the pentagram of control/destruction in the center. Mary seems to fall into the pentagram whether she likes it or not, and it’s always with other women. Why?
The answer bricked me when I remembered Mary follows an age-old yuri trope: the Female Prince. TVTropes has since changed this to “Bifauxnen,” but I don’t think that does the idea justice. In fact, I really don’t like it, because it feels like it puts more emphasis on the look of a character than on the actions. Looks matter, but actions and attitude matter more.
A Female Prince is, at her core, a woman who has some qualities associated with men. She’s not a tomboy, but may dress like a man, and acts like a knight with a code of honor. This means she’s usually sticking up for those less fortunate - particularly damsels in distress. The idea has been in Asia since at least 1964 (with a Hong Kong movie), but is almost unheard of in Western media. Most of us probably heard of it through Revolutionary Girl Utena.
At this point, a bunch of my readers are also palming their faces in “how did I miss that?!” Well, Twin isn’t translated, so there’s a bit of missing information - that’s not your fault. There’s also a prerequisite that’s really more of an Easter egg, and will also add to the “oh.”
Mary has a fair bit in common with Sora, the protagonist of Toru Naomura’s other work, Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost also centers around an elite school with some eccentricities. Instead of gambling, the school plays a VR game in which girls become weapons. Sora, uniquely, can use any girl just as well as a guy. People swear it must be some kind of bug; clearly, they’ve never seen a Female Prince before.
Mary is as weak to Wood as she is due to the chart, but that doesn’t explain everything. Mary has relationships that definitely play with gender roles, and sometimes the chart switches gears because of it. I guess Mary x Itsuki could work if Itsuki decided to play the princess. Well, excuuuuse me!
