sometimes i think about how unrelieable a narrator elio is and remember that oliver was 24…. when i was 17 I thought people in college should have everything figured out, too. of course he was confused and distraught over realizing that oliver is just a kid too, that the age didnt matter in terms of what he had figured out about the world. we always talk about oliver having more experience and knowing the consequences of his actions but like… bro. im 25. i fuck up all the time and have no idea what im doing lmao he was coasting just trying to make a moment count and feel something other than the crushing weight of expectations everyone put on him and elio was a breath of fresh air. i think part of elio’s remembering of oliver is built on a sort of disillusionment with growing up and realizing everyone is just making their own mistakes, in their own head, trying their best in their own ways, and sometimes that means you get hurt. there are no black and white answers and i think oliver was raised to think otherwise.

I finished 'Find Me' last night and I have some thoughts but I'll write them up later. I've missed talking about André Aciman's writing and these characters so much, but I'm not sure this is the way I wanted them back in my life. I'm still pretty resolute that the book didn't need a sequel, but I'd like to see one for the film à la the Before trilogy. Thank you for the opinions some of you shared before I read it! They definitely helped to manage my expectations!

Amazon really did a number on me and managed to make me think ‘Find Me’ was coming out in 2020 instead of this year so guess who has missed out on an entire weekend of devouring the sequel and the endless possibilities it holds... yep.

I’m going to start reading tomorrow - but how is it? No spoilers, but are you all enjoying it? Was I right to be hyped for so long about a sequel?! Or should it have been firmly left alone after all?
