lodgesung:
it was rather odd. the way this pet just kept doing his best to be a few steps forward from alexander, just to stare at him as they walked. right at his face, not even subtly. alex dismissed it, and even found it a little endearing. not to mention the elf was pretty to look at, so he wouldn’t complain about it. a laugh escaping him as oli’s real age was revealed, much to his shock. “okay! i would’ve never thought someone like you could make me feel like a toddler, but color me stoked! i’m barely ninety five, not even a hundred yet.” it was true what was said about elves. a thousand and one years could pass and they would retain youthful beauty. but again, not having met many elves before made alexander’s first encounters with them brand new experiences. to think this kid…well, this guy doubled his age while looking like your average high-schooler, it was rather amazing. not as amazing though, as the boy’s next revelation, one that made alex stop on his tracks. “hold on, you are deaf?” he approached oli, staring down at him as if looking for any sign that should have told him he was deaf. “how have you been answering me then?” he was genuinely amazed, but it didn’t stop him from resuming his way over to his shop. he guided oliver to the back, where a pile of turntables laid in the corner. they were about twenty-something, some properly boxed, others just stuck one above the other. not disorganised or carelessly thrown together, but certainly looking in urgent need of maintenance. “well, i have a couple of them that just need a little tweaks on the needle, which are the newer ones. others i’ve found in literal junkyards, and need a complete revamp. think you can handle that?” he asked, his hand pointing at the task oliver was facing.
A surprised expression painted itself on Oliver’s face for a moment when the master told him how old he was before he burst into a fit of giggles afterwards. He couldn’t believe that he was actually older! Oliver knew that there were plenty of masters that would be younger than him despite how odd he thought that was, but he had never met one before and was greatly amused by it since he technically had more wisdom and experience than someone in a position of power. “Aw, you’re like a toddler! How cute.” Oliver giggled again, reaching up to pat the man on his head as if he were an actual child. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest idea for him to tease a master, but he really couldn’t help himself. Though, it didn’t seem that would be a problem the moment his deafness was brought up. “I’ve been reading your lips the whole time.” He shrugged as if it were obvious and followed the man into the back of his shop. But when he spotted the piles of turntables waiting to be fixed, Oliver was convinced he had stepped into an elf’s wonderland instead, and his eyes instantly lit up like a child on Christmas. “I most certainly can,” Oliver exclaimed in excitement with an enthusiastic nod when he was asked if he could handle the task. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on those turntables. “I’ll treat them as if they were my own!” And then he got to work, deciding to start with the ones that needed the most attention before pausing a second later when he realized he had nothing to fix them with. “D-Do you know where the tools are?” Oliver asked shyly, his cheeks flushed in embarrassment at his forgetfulness.
