After just completing my rounds, I thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in primary setting of the classroom. Being in a middle year’s classroom for the first time, I was able to compare the differences and similarities from the early years. I found reading eggs was extremely helpful for the students, allowing them to complete tests once finishing their reading gave the students a challenge to push them further with their reading. They were tested with comprehension questions enabling the students to recap on what they have just learnt but also practice and improve their reading comprehension. Once a week my class also did a cold write (a form of assessment) where they would watch a Disney short film and then write a form of writing about the film, edit and then come to a class discussion where they would share their stories and discuss what they liked and disliked. One thing I did not like was the traditional set of the classroom. The students were given worksheets and rarely got the chance to do something out of their normal routine that was more progressive. I found that reading was promoted brilliantly within the school and I found no faults, whilst with their writing I thought the students could have been given clear instructions of what was expected and how they would know when they were successful. A lot of the students in my class struggled to stay on task and I believe that this would have helped in enabling them to better understand what they needed to do. During the placement I read with a student everyday and on my last day I got the chance to read to the whole class one of my favourite classroom books, ‘the book with no pictures’
