My parents bought their Alvar Aalto trolley and stool before I was born, and having grown up with this classic piece of design in our living room, the style made a real impression on me. The simple geometry and curved wood looked almost futuristic to me back in the 70s and 80s, but Aalto's effortless blend of form and function were vintage even then! With so many homes now containing a Poäng chair or a Frosta stool from Ikea, this aesthetic is much more familiar today... Anyway, it was a real treat to make this pilgrimage to the flagship store of Artek (the company set up by Aalto)...
