this california power outage shit is literally going to kill people.

the company only gave a 12 HOUR warning.

things powered by electricity:

life saving medical equipment

fridges and freezers which keep food from spoiling. this would be much less of a big deal if people were given a week or so’s warning, but they were given 12 HOURS.

many devices used for preparing food (ex microwaves and electric stoves)

phones, computers, televisions, and radios, aka everything that allows people to get news quickly, in an area extremely prone to wildfires and other natural disasters.

phones also serve as communication devices for both loved ones and emergency services. if your phone runs out of charge during these 5 days and you need to call 911 because you’re having a heart attack or got in a car crash? you can’t.

all lights… which is going to force people to use candles for light at night… in an area where fire is extremely susceptible to spreading… and all devices that can be used to contact emergency services are depowered…

cooling and heating systems (luckily california tends to be pretty stable temperature-wise this time of year)

electric wheelchairs and other electric disability aids

i feel like i should re-iterate life saving medical equipment

this INTENTIONAL outage is affecting over half a million california residents, and not everyone has the money to just go get a generator, or go stay in a hotel out-of-state for a week, especially on such short notice. this is evil.

And even if you’re someone lucky like me who was able to afford a generator, we have the added issue of a whole lot if individuals running these things in conditions conducive to a wild fire. The company is protecting itself from fault, because they STILL have not made necessary upgrades to their system, nor have they finished clearing trees from overhead power lines like they were supposed to.

PG&E can go fuck themselves.

idk about y’all but I think it’s pretty terrifying having to personally hear bisexuals in offline spaces express being practically shamed out of openly identifying as bisexual because they’ve internalized the belief that bisexuality is not inclusive of trans/nb ppl and if that doesn’t hit home for you how dangerous misinformation and ahistorical takes are in the current state of LGBT activism then I honestly don’t have much else to say.

theres this awkward disconnect when well meaning whites use genders from other cultures as an argument for respecting nonbinary ppl. 

like if you are saying “other cultures have these 3rd genders so thats evidence nonbinary is real thing” that doesnt really work because those genders arent nonbinary, they exist out of the context of the western gender binary, theyre part of a different system of genders. cant be nonbinary if theres no binary to begin with. 

but if you are using this as an argument for “the gender binary is a western construct thats been pushed on other cultures and also is completely arbitrary and thats why you should respect nonbinary people” then THAT is a prfectly sound arugment..
