SHE  TRIES  NOT  TO  LOOK  TOO  LOST  ,   but  it’s  hard  when  she’s  already  warm  in  the  face  .   grace  takes  a  sip  from  the  glass  and  grimaces  involuntarily  .   not  her  finest  moment   ❝   i  don’t  know  what  those  are  ,   either  .   ❞   after  a  pause  ,   she  tries  the  wine  again  .   there’s  less  outward  disgust  .   ❝   but  it  sounds  unsanitary  .   ❞

HE’S  BEEN  FRIENDLY  AND  SHE  DOESN’T  KNOW  WHY  .   grace  remembers  the  donut  shop  at  four  in  the  morning  ,   watching  people  meander  outside  the  windows  .   no  one  as  beautiful  as  him  ever  crossed  her  path  .   it  was  odd  ,   how  he  looked  .   so  perfect  .

❝   nope  ,   never  had  any  wine  .   ❞   she  admits  with  a  sheepish  shrug  .   ❝   are  you  going  to  just  tell  me  about  it  or  actually  let  me  taste  it  ,   huh  ?   ❞

                    she   did   not   mean   to   interrupt   and   yet   she   has  ,      it’s   too   late   to   reverse   that .     so   he   pulls   the   violin   from   his   shoulder  ,     the   unwieldly   texture   of   bone   running   across   his   cold   fingertips   as   he   moves   to   settle   it   in   an   upright   position   on   the   sofa .      THEN  ,     HE   FOLLOWS   IT   DOWN .      he   doesn’t   sit   straight  ,     he   leans  ,     all   limbs   spread   from   tip   to   toe   of   the   furnishing .     the   bow   of   the   violin   is   settled   between   his   legs .

                         `       everybody   that   is   worth   anything   in   this   world   comes   from   need   or   love  …     those   that   come   from   something   else   end   up   strays   in   their   own   lives .      `      he   states .     his   words   are   educated  ,     but   are   they   accurate ?      HE   BARELY   REMEMBERS   HIS   PARENTS  ,    NOW  ,      but   he   is   sure   that   only   one   loved   him   ——-   and   that   she   also   did   not   need   him  ,     and   he   did   not   want   him  ,     and   that   he   had   only   needed   her   for   a   short   time .

SHE  LIFTS  HER  HAND  BUT  SAYS  NOTHING  TO  STOP  HIM  .   grace  feels  a  jagged  ,   disembodied  pain  she  can’t  place  running  lengthwise  on  her  chest  .   her  daughter  used  to  play  like  him  ,   where  did  she  go  again  ?   it’s  so  hard  to  remember  .

she  stands  in  the  doorway  ,   looking  small  as  her  answer  appears  insufficient  .   the  what  of  her  never  matters  to  some  ,   they  want  only  to  know  the  how  .   grace  is  used  to  it  ,   and  she  does  remember  for  what  reason  .   she  cocks  her  head  to  the  side  ,   the  whirring  behind  her  eyes  stops  as  this  thought  is  not  big  .

❝   a  robot  .   ❞   she  answers  ,   plain  .   ❝   i  was  built  .   ❞   grace  supplies  as  if  that  will  help  him  understand  the  brand  of  her  undying  .   ❝   it’s  why  there  isn’t  any  blood  in  me  .   ❞

    𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗬 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 - 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬, 𝗜𝗧 𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗦 𝗛𝗜𝗠 excited too. There’s not much he wouldn’t do for, or with Grace; she is a bright star in his life, & even if the activities they share are less than invigorating, Harry always finds himself feeling far BETTER after seeing her. He hopes that she feels similarly when he is around. He has no idea in his heart of how to repay her for her company & kindness, but some small, over-affectionate part of him DESPERATELY wishes that he did.

SHE  REACHES  OVER  ,   TAPPING  HIS  HOMEWORK  WITH  A  POINTED  SMILE  .   only  a  boy  taught  by  someone  hateful  would  feel  the  need  to  give  thanks  for  motherly  love  .   it  hurts  her  ,   but  she  tries  not  to  show  it  .   that  will  only  hurt  him  and  people  like  harry  never  understand  that  his  pain  is  her  own  .   she  keeps  it  tight  to  her  chest  and  instead  offers  a  very  wry  smile  .  the  coming  week  looks  brighter  already  .

❝   the  problem  is   he  isn’t  wrong  ,   ❞   grace  beams  .   she  likes  peter  ,   really  ,   he’s  good  to  her  son  .   ❝   i  haven’t  seen  very  many  .   a  few  here  and  there  but  i  don’t  know  if  people  would  consider  grease  and  waitress  landmarks  of  cinema  ,   even  if  i  do  like  them  .   ❞

grace  pauses  to  think  .   by  her  own  admission  ,   she  has  likes  .   but   it’s  difficult  to  condense  it  to  a  genre  .   ❝   i  like  movies  that  feel  like  home  .   is  that  a  good  answer  ?   ❞

Luther Hargreeves is a very complex and we'll written character. You guys are just too busy making fun of his trama to notice. I'm not defending him, I'm just saying he spent 4 years in the moon in isolation- only to find out it was for no reason. He has the body of an ape and throughout the show it's clear he has body dystrophia. Yes he acted terrible to the others and that in unexcusable, but please don't have fun of his very real tama. Luther is my least favourite but it still hurts when I see people making "dAd SeNt mE To tHe MoOn" jokes. No matter what kind of person someone is, it's not okay to make fun of their trama. Stop being assholes.

SHE’S  BEGINNING  TO  UNDERSTAND  THAT  ,   THE  TRANSITION’S  BEEN  ROCKY  .   but  grace  feels  warmth  unmatched  in  this  house  ,   with  its  never - ending  windows  and  unlocked  doors  .   she  can’t  think  of  anywhere  else  she  would  rather  be  .

tony’s  taken  a  break  at  her  request  .   but  his  rebuttal  shocks  her  ,   he  wants  her  to  stay  .   enough  work’s  been  done  ,   he  tells  her  .   grace  will  admit  she  doesn’t  know  how  to  rest  ,   just  as  he  doesn’t  ,   but  practice  does  make  perfect  .

he  takes  up  a  magazine  and  she  her  sewing  ,   the  conversation  lapses  into  companionable  silence  ,   something  grace  has  never  understood  before  .   she  doesn’t  mention  that  ,   however  ,   and  knows  exactly  what  he  would  say  if  she  did  .   it’s  time  she  got  used  to  it  .   to  herself  ,   grace  smiles  .

SHE  TELLS  HERSELF  THEY’RE  NOT  REAL  NIGHTMARES  ,   usually  in  the  very  same  breath  she  hopes  for  good  dreams  .   it’s  casual  hypocrisy  ,   to  deny  she  can  is  to  ensure  it  won’t  happen  .   usually  .

jarvis  is  next  to  her  when  she  needs  him  ,   like  he  always  knows  when  she’s  in  trouble  .   grace  wakes  with  a  half - scream  ,   half - choke  on  useless  air  .   her  chest  hurts  ---   why  ?  

she  feels  fear  ,   she  knows  fear  and  it’s  not  like  this  nightmare’s  never  happened  before  .   but  every  time  she’s  lay  in  the  dark  and  stared  at  the  ceiling  ,   she’s  done  so  alone  .  

but  grace  doesn’t  even  have  the  option  to  suffer  in  silence  ,   she’s  grabbed  in  a  most  familiar  way  and  pulled  against  a  plastic  chest  .   he’s  warm  ,   not  quite  home  yet  but  he  could  be  .

❝   i’m  fine  ,   i’m  fine  ,   i’m  fine  .   ❞   though  he  respectfully  disagrees  .   grace  isn’t  about  to  be  let  go  ,   she  realizes  with  a  long  and  somewhat  thankful  sigh  .   after  a  moment  or  two  ,   she  puts  her  forehead  to  his  shoulder  .   ❝   i  didn’t  mean  to  wake  you  .   ❞

ughhhhh okay this is in response to very little but i feel like it’s important to note that grace’s ability to compartmentalize her emotions and deal with trauma quietly is not necessarily healthy.

i feel like there’s an emphasis on abuse and trauma survivors to deal with their emotions in ways that won’t upset those around them, to be as grace is; happy and positive outwardly with no sign of struggle. any internal issues should be dealt with internally, other people should not have to see them. this isn’t actually a good thing, nor is it fair.

grace’s ability to quietly process her emotions, to remain compassionate and open due to a number of different factors does not make her more human than her children who have also suffered. different people respond to situations differently and there’s a reason why i don’t think she’s doing particularly great on the inside. pretending like nothing is wrong matters more than actually healing to her. this is bad. 

behind closed doors, she has breakdowns. she breaks things of value to her, she doesn’t feel ownership of the intense, negative emotions she’s now living with. unbridled hatred and intense love have always been possibilities for her, she’s just deeply repressed after almost thirty years of hiding it. 

grace and her methods to live with what’s been done to her rigidly align with what is expected of her. it’s also, coincidentally oppressive and unsustainable.

      just a weekly visit with fresh flowers and old,  weathered,  withered stems resting at the base of their tombstones.  it still feels fresh,  just as if it happened the day before.  it doesn’t get any easier,  even as you get older.  shoulders slumped,  he hears someone approach him from the side as he glances towards her.  alright,  peter.  at least try not to look so pathetic while you’re grieving your newly passed aunt and long,  but not forgotten,  uncle.  he inhales a deep breath,  placing his hands on his hips as the expression on his face changes from solemn and despair to something more…  lighthearted.  well,  there was an attempt.     

‘  bothering me?  nah.  i think they would both enjoy the extra company.  i bet they’re tired of just me visiting them all the time.  ’     he’s talking like they’re both physically present.  better than jokes or quips being told in a resting place.  very inappropriate.  though this facade couldn’t stay for long,  his face falling.  besides,  who was he even fooling?  nobody.  that’s for sure.     ‘  do you uh,  befriend everyone you see in a cemetery?  seems a bit ominous.  ’     then he pauses,  tilting his head curiously.     ‘  are you the ghost of christmas past?  because that doesn’t apply to me.  ’

SHE  KNOWS  SOON  ENOUGH  WHEN  SHE’S  MADE  A  MISTAKE  ,   but  for  all  the  man’s  clear  discomfort  ---   grace  can’t  bring  herself  to  consider  this  might’ve  been  the  wrong  choice  .   she  knows  how  humans  show  their  hand  ,   he’s  nervous  ,   it’s  why  he’s  talking  so  much  .   but  they  also  clamp  up  ,   make  themselves  scarce  when  threatened  .   he  doesn’t  have  to  be  afraid  of  her  .

❝   i  make  a  point  not  to  bother  people  ,   ❞   she  says  ,   choosing  to  ignore  the  existential  horror  somewhere  therein  .   best  not  to  think  about  it  .   when  his  smile  falters  ,   her’s  falls  ,   too  .   mimicry  ,   force  of  habit  .   ❝   i’ve  just  seen  you  here  before  ,   it’s  nice  to  meet  you  .   ❞

no  amount  of  mimicry  can  stop  her  from  smiling  at  what  she  finds  funny  ,   however  .   grace  grins  again  and  shakes  her  head  .   ❝   it’s  only  october  .   i  might  be  the  ghost  of  halloweens  past  ,   but  not  quite  christmas  .   ❞
