I hate my food touching and eat it all separately. I only eat white chocolate, I'm not keen on milk or dark. Apparently the people who were supposed to tell me chose not to, and youâve been dead since October and I only just found out. Four days after I last spoke to you, you were dead and no one said anything to me because âI can be quite protectiveâ of you. I just found out via a brief message on Facebook that said âlaurel died in October sorryâ.Â
You beautiful fool. Iâm going to miss you. More than I do already likely as this year wears on. God damn it Laurel. Iâll see you again one day.Â
Years ago I gave a friend of mine the only spare invite I've ever had to PassThePopcorn after she complained about not being able to find movies she wanted to watch. I looked up her profile a week or so ago and found out that she'd never actually used it apart from when she logged in to create the account. She clearly didnât know what it was, hadnât understood when I explained and never even looked at it again, failing to understand what she had access to or how hard it was to get in. The worst thing is that sheâs complaining on twitter that she canât find any decent streams of Oscar movies she wants to watch. That was a waste of my only invite.Â
The supermarket by me has stopped selling both Dunhill and American Spirits cigarettes on the grounds that I was the only one who ever bought either according to them and this frees up space for more popular brands. Seriously though, at ÂŁ10 a pack for American Spirits and 12.90 for Dunhill, does it matter if it was just me when youâre selling them at those prices?Â
Now I have to get them when Iâm in town or do what I used to do and order cartons of 10 packs online every week or so.Â

Get my teeth sorted by finally getting that denture I need
Go a whole year without any kind of eating disorder-type behaviour
Quit everything I need to quit.
Make some money, achieve something tangible and stop relying on my savings from projects that are years old now, Iâve been coasting for too long
Stop replying to people when Iâm on medication, because I always make a fool of myself.Â
Learn, at the least, basic Spanish
Read more, as last year reading kind of went to hell for the last six months because I felt dreadful
Use tumblr more, I have no excuse
Actually start that art project Iâve been meaning to start for 4 years.
Be nicer to people, and stop letting myself get ill enough to be horrible to people.

Itâs quite likely no coincidence that that most âmismanagedâ and least profitable social media site is also the one that turned out to be most amenable to the formation of actual communities
To clarify, Tumblr is indeed horribly mismanaged, but notably, itâs mismanaged both in ways that harm us (e.g. doing little about pornbots, nazis, etc.) and ways that have greatly benefited us â not asking for real names, hiding our follower counts, a chronologically-sorted dashboard, etc. are big draws, but in the eyes of other social media monarchs, they look like unforgivable mistakes. If I donât have to give my real name, thatâs that much less information to sell to advertisers. If posts are listed chronologically, Tumblr canât shove the posts of âinfluencersâ in front of me willy-nilly. Tumblr was a âsuccessâ because it was too poorly managed to sufficiently atomize us, and so we actually had conversations and communities instead of being the best products for advertisers.
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Death Cab for Cutie
I break this out every Christmas, itâs one of my all time favourite Christmas songs. This version and Joey Ramoneâs version are two absolutely awesome Christmas songs, and manage to capture different vibes entirely. This one feels like whomever theyâre asking to come home isnât coming; Whereas Joeyâs cut is an impassioned plea for them to return, a much more hopeful tone altogether, you feel like they would be there if they could - whereas Benâs vocal and the bands arrangement makes you feel like they arenât ever coming near. Both are fantastic, but this one for me edges it slightly with the melancholic tone and Gibbardâs mournful, dark take. To me this is the sound of an empty, lonely, early Christmas morning, roads silent from the lack of cars, that grey tone of winter making the world seem utterly empty and you feeling like the only person left in the whole world.
I love Christmas more than any other season, but I always argue that thereâs a melancholy to the season that people try way too hard to avoid when itâs implicit in the whole package. Itâs part of what makes it, and the best Christmas songs (and books, and films, etc) acknowledge it. Fairy Tale of New York is another that really captures the melancholia of the season.Â
Yeah, my jaw pain turned out to be a little more pressing than they thought. When it was reset, it snagged a nerve. So Iâve been useless for a few days in immense pain.Â
And yes, it also means my email that I intended to delete as soon as I could has been up on tumblr for three days. Iâm sure my spam folder is thrilled.Â

I mean if you want a real answer, I became left wing pretty early in my teens as a result of Michael Moore films and Catholicism. I felt like the values that Catholicism extolled just werenât compatible with this globalist profiteering that seemed to be dominant everywhere. People were getting screwed over left and right by rich people who were rewarded for their actions by capitalism. Then I had a left wing History teacher, Miss Owen (at least, I assume she was left wing but she didnât actually present these things with a bias so maybe she was such a good teacher Iâm just projecting those values onto her based on where her teaching took me) who taught me all about civil rights, Vietnam, miners strikes, Reagan & Thatcher, and basically the history of capitalism and right wing thought in the 20th century and those things together gave me a baseline to do my own reading, and end up where I am today.Â
Iâm one of those annoying people who defends Michael Moore because without his influence I donât think I would have been so forthright on the subject. His work gave me an easy to understand grounding in subjects that I otherwise wouldnât have come across at that age (gun control, health care, capitalism, etc). People are far too quick to criticise his approach that makes subjects easy to understand and entertaining for people who might not otherwise be engaged politically. I honestly really like him.Â
