❝ i think that’s a fantastic idea, you can thank me in the dedications for the suggestions & then pay me thirty percent of your income. ❞
“the highest i’ll go is twenty one percent. take it or leave it.”
“then… what’s the point of complaining about the drinking age? if you aren’t planning on going out.”
“just ‘cause i don’t drink all the time doesn’t mean i don’t want to once in a blue moon.”
“well that’s a damn relief. thought i was going to have to stand here and convince you otherwise, honestly.”
“well you can relax, i’m not quite that christmas crazy.”
“Australia, England — same difference.” he waves it off with a shrug. “You all say weird shit.” he adds. “Oh, you know us, good ole America. You can go to war at eighteen, but don’t you dare even think about drinking alcohol until you’re twenty one.”
“not quite.” riley laughed “hey— so do you americans.” she replied “and you think australia is in to some bloody weird shit. at least our laws make sense.”
“you could do what every other under-age person in america does. find someone over 21 to buy them alcohol and get fucked anyway,” the blonde suggests. “i’m a bartender and can get you in whenever. gotta finesse the people around you, kid.”
“except everybody knows how old i am — i’m not going to any bars when i’m not working.”
“i mean, it’s not like you can’t get away with it.” lana responded semi-automatically. she leaned over and lowered her voice to say, “e s p e c i a l l y since you’re a girl – we get pretty much whatever we want.” she chuckled.
“i’m not one for breaking the law too often.” she laughed “but i guess you’re right, huh.”
”99% seems like a more accurate statistic.”
“somebody seems cynical.”
“lucky for you, we’re also masters of the whole fake i.d. thing so i don’t think you’ll be in lack of alcohol if that’s your scene. plus, house parties tend not to ask before they put a beer in your hand.” he shrugs, arms folding casually across his chest. “at least you’ll have a sick accent to show for it?”
“i don’t think i’m going to be going to many parties, anyway. i guess there hs to be some plus’s to things, ae?”
“i wish it wouldn’t, honestly..” charlie chuckles lightly and shakes her head. “well, at least you’re not one of those christmas extremists that start in september then. or are you? ”
“i’m more of a mid to late november person when it comes to getting into the christmas spirit.”
“ great ! i’m excited now. —–so, um… is it weird to say i like your accent ? “
“it’s not the weirdest thing you could say. people do seem oddly fascinated with the australian accent though, as i’ve learnt.
“All you have to do is say the word and I’ll bring a six pack over to yours. Just don’t tell. Can’t have the reputation of buying alcohol for someone who’s underage.” he teases lightly as his leg bounces up and down repeatedly. “Have I ever told you how strange you Brits are? Your use of words is just fucking weird.”
“if it helps your reputation, i’m totally of age in australia. it’s not my fault you americans have shitty bloody laws.” she laughed, rolling her eyes at him “—australian, mack. i’m australian.”
“my mistake princess, of course he likes you,” mattie echoed teasingly.
“hey, it’s not my fault im loveable — i’m pretty sure it’s the accent. damn mum and dad.”
“Alright, a mocha coming right up.” she went to work creating the girl’s drink, finishing it off with a little whipcream on top. “Here, this should taste ‘ace’.” she joked, mocking her Australian accent.
“cheers, mate.” riley laughed, mocking herself slightly as she took the coffee and leaned on the counter “so, when do you get off? before we’re in total need of some girl time.”
Mattie struggled for a moment to regain his grip on the leash and control over his dog - he knew Dexter wasn’t dangerous, but most people were pretty quick to judge. “Sorry, I promise he’s harmless, he just really likes people.”
“since when have i had a problem with dogs?” riley laughed “plus, i’m loveable, of COURSE he likes me.”
‘ sorry if i sounded harsh, i just don’t want our other co workers to go too hard on you just because you’re new. ‘
“it’s fine. just if you change your mind, i can be pretty persuasive and have him outta here in no time.”
“Exactly, booze only offers hangovers and sometimes a fun time but coffee is a literal life saver.” she agreed, going to the machines behind her. “Don’t you forget that, now tell me what will it be?”
“well, since you’re offering a mocha sounds ace.” she smiled.
‘ i’ve got this riley, don’t get distracted we have a full house tonight. ‘
“right. sorry.”
