Hello everyone, my name is Lizzie and I play Dr. Devon Shannon, under the read more youâll find some info about her;
tw; mentions of death, losing someone important, failure
Devon was born and raised in Brookline, part of Boston, MA in 1982. She is/was the youngest child, and only daughter of Maj. Neal Shannon and Audrey Shannon (nĂ©e McCallum). With three older brothers (Connor, Ryan and Tommy), Devon certainly knew how to fend for herself against advancing males company as she grew up, and also knew how to work her parents -specifically her father- to give her anything she wanted, especially since he wasnât around all that often with his enlistment and deployments.
As a young girl, Devon wanted to become one of the generic, popular jobs that all her friends wanted to be; vet, nurse, actress, fashion designer, and so on. But, as she grew into herself more, she knew that helping people was one of the best things she could do with her life, to give back, so to speak. So, with a thirst for knowledge and a keen mathematical and scientific mind, she drew her focus on the more mundane classes at school, and worked and worked through algebra, AP physics, AP chemistry, biology, sociology, psychology, all the -ologies!
With her sights set high, on Harvard School of Medicine to be exact, Devon continued on her path of determination, looking for role models all around. She found the most inspiration and guidance came from Diana, Princess of Wales. Devon looked up to the saintly woman, throughout her childhood, watching how she threw her life on the line, defying the stereotypical ideal of what a Princess should look, talk and behave like. But, even with the heart of a true saint, she couldnât have been immortal, and in the midst of the summer between 10th and 11th grade, Devonâs role model was taken from her, from the world.
She took a while to get over losing someone whom she looked up to so dearly, but after weeks of getting mediocre grades and not entirely paying attention at school, Devon finally cracked and knew that even though she had never met the Princess, she would probably have been told that reliving the morose, half-hearted efforts just wouldnât do. By the time she graduated high school, that one tiny semester had put a ding into her chances of being accepted into Harvard. And, as heartbroken as she was when her role model had passed, Devon struggled to find acceptance at her second place college; Johns Hopkins.
Devon, upon arriving at Johns Hopkins, had no idea of what her specialty was going to be, nor did she even want to think about how she was going to get through the coming years, having not gotten into her first choice of schools. But, with her role model playing heavily on her mind, with quotes she carried around;Â I want to walk into a room, be it a hospital for the dying or a hospital for the sick children, and feel that I am needed. I want to do, not just to be - Devon was able to choose her specialty with ease: pediatric emergency medicine.
By the time Devon had graduated from Johns Hopkins, she had changed her specialty to Pediatric Endocrinology, and had been offered several positions with neighboring hospitals and clinics. However, all Devon wanted to do, was head on home, back to Boston. Of course, nothing had gone to plan in her life, at least not the way she had planned things out, so instead of arriving back in Boston, she arrived in Manhattan, and scooped herself a job as a Resident at the Manhattan General Hospital.Â
With her drive and sometimes, plain neuroticism, Devon climbed her way up the ladder within the hospital, claiming sight over the Resident Physicianâs position within the Pediatrics department. It wasnât soon after that, that she nabbed the Pediatrics Department Chief position, if it could be called ânabbingâ the job, since she really had no idea what she was doing but the other members of the department seemed to like her, and she had been hitting all the right targets.
