In the Friends episode ’the one with the chick and the duck’ Chandler says to Joey ‘Woah calm down there Lennie’ AND I JUST GOT IT OH MY GOD HOW DID I NOT REALISE THAT HE WAS REFERENCING OF MICE AND MEN

So, I just recently had a mildly awful thought about Sam and Dean’s relationship in Supernatural, at least season 1 & 2.  It’s just a bit like Of Mice and Men. Think about it; both stories star two codependent men (in OMaM they’re close friends and in SPN they’re brothers), the older, shorter one, does everything to look out for the younger, taller one, whom is is very compassionate and good, but is also very dangerous (OMaM’s Lenny very much likes animals and soft things, but is freakishly strong, SPN’s Sam is, as Dean puts it “a total girl”, but early on has demon blood within him and later is revealed to be Lucifer’s vessel). The elder does his best to protect the younger from this dangerous part of their personality but in the end, it’s impossible.And, tragically, in both stories, the younger wants nothing more than a normal, care free life where they won’t be treated like freaks.

Then, at the end of OMaM, George is forced to kill Lenny because his lack of ability to control his strength caused the death of Curley’s wife and he knew that if he didn’t kill him quickly he would have been forced to die slowly and painfully.

Towards the beginning of Season 2 of Supernatural, it is revealed that Sam and Dean’s father had warned Dean that he had to save his brother and if he couldn’t, then he would have to kill him. Presumably, he was referring to Sam’s demon blood but he may have also been referring to the fact that he was Lucifer’s vessel. Either way, Dean was unable to save his brother nor could he, unlike George in Of Mice and Men, bring himself to kill him.

Later on, Sam get’s an addiction to Demon blood, which inadvertently causes the apocalypse,  which then winds Sam up in the pits of hell, suffering from torture so unimaginably excruciating that when he remembers it, he goes insane. 

So, basically, the two sets of similar characters are both faced with the challenge of protecting the younger of the two from themselves, which they both fail. This forces them into a difficult choice. Either kill the person they care more about  than the entire world, or let that person suffer. George chooses the former and Dean chooses the later. Lenny dies and George loses all purpose in his life. Dean keeps his brother, but Sam becomes a demon blood addict, unleashes an apocalypse, get’s possessed by Satan, goes to hell, loses his soul, and goes crazy.

But I don’t think that either George or Dean would ever amend their decisions.

Just found it kind of interesting.

for those who saw the last episodes resemblance to the ‘Of Mice and Men’ ending then they will know that before George shot Lennie, Lennie says, “And I get to tend the rabbits” So my brother says for Lizzie, “And I get to cut the rabbits”

my sea anemone split!

This morning, the sea anemone looked a little different. Right after my bike ride, I checked on it and found out that it split into two!!

After reading some online forums, I found two possible reasons for the split: 1) it is super happy 2) it is stressed. My sea anemone has been eating really well so I am going to assume that it split for the latter reason.

I imagine splitting in two would be stressful so I decided to put George and Lennie into home made “jail” to stop them from disturbing the new anemones.(Now, you know why my clown fishes are wearing stripes ;)).
