It’s killing me that Lizzie has been the only source of forgiveness for Pearl so far. In all the seasons.

In Last Life, she never really antagonized anyone (except for a brief moment where she stole Scar’s cactus).

In Double Life, obviously, no one ever forgave her. Scott and Cleo didn’t forgive her for episode one. Martyn held his grudge for her imaginary transgressions against him (she didn’t really do anything to him). Ren and BigB didn’t really forgive her; Ren did make amends when he was in the Broke Hearts Club with her, but that was more of an apology than forgiveness. She killed BDubs and Impulse on their last life, so they weren’t alive to hold a grudge.

In Limited Life, Jimmy didn’t forgive her for killing Judge Judy and Executioner, Scott didn’t forgive her (that I can remember) for stealing the enchanter. Cleo and the rest of the Clockers didn’t forgive her for allying with Team TIES.

But in Secret Life, Lizzie held a grudge against everyone for not going to her party. But she didn’t against Pearl (and Joel ig). Pearl asks her if they are still good and Lizzie says that they are. That season, Lizzie had no allies, and she wasn’t really amicable with anyone, but with Pearl it was different, she was okay with Pearl and didn’t hold it against her that she didn’t go to her party like with everyone else.

And again in Wild Life, (skipping Real Life because Pearl didn’t do anything to anyone in RL) Pearl tries to kill Lizzie like 5 times in a row. But when she gets a question wrong, Lizzie still says, “We have to save Pearl!”, and when Pearl tells her the answer to her question, Lizzie says that she forgives her. Something that no one else had done for her. In this same season, Gem is having beef with Pearl for something that happened the PREVIOUS season. And, I guess, Scott and Cleo have forgiven her for Double Life, but THREE SEASONS LATER (four if you count Real Life).

No one else has given Pearl this grace except for Lizzie. Pearl herself didn’t even give Lizzie this grace. In Last Life, when Lizzie boogey-kills her, afterwards Pearl says that she is still scared of her and doesn’t want to be near her. And Lizzie doesn’t blame her, because, in the Life Series, forgiveness isn’t common. Holding grudges keeps you alive. If you forgive someone, it gives them a chance to betray you again.

Lizzie forgives her, time and again, in a game so devoid of forgiveness.

in Limited Life it went kind of uneasily with her and BigB sort of asking each other to team up, and in Secret life she immiediately latched onto the first team-up-able people she found and glued herself to their two'a mole

Every single Nerdy Prudes Must Die song works with the Life Series. In this essay I will-

(putting this in the text because it’s easier lmao, and hope you don’t mind me talking a LOT about this)

Jimmy and Mumbo/Lizzie as Richie and Ruth at the start is so so good actually. Jimmy and Mumbo fit well because not only did they die so close together both in time and distance, but they also died pretty much for the same reason so I could definitely see them both as narrators - telling the story of how everything went wrong. And Lizzie and Jimmy both have these special deaths, with Lizzie dying first by falling into the void - the only permadeath in the End (and also, once again, the first death) - and Jimmy not dying first but dying immediately after so it’s almost like he can never escape the canary curse. And that line you pointed out fits SO WELL too!! in both seasons!!

My idea for the test (still in hsikm) was like maybe way back in the first session when Scar fails his task and basically “cheats” (with permission but shush it kinda fits) by rerolling for a hard task but yeah I’m not certain

Your idea for literal monster is SO GOOD. especially with the whole “oh Joel is here” wary attitude of last life and the fact that Martyn was the only one of the first red lives in secret life that people were actually scared of haha

Your idea about the test part in HSIKM actually made me gasp that fits so well! And I guess the hall monitors would be “CHEATER!!”

I agree that Hatchet Town fits the Boogeyman curse super well! For me, (because I’ve been having many thoughts about Secret Life) I was thinking about the Boogeyman curse task that Gem had and the fear with Grian rounding everyone up to explain the situation (“I hate to relay the news”). But it doesn’t fit perfectly because they know who the zombies are. Also the bit where it goes “It’s gotta be Donna” “Yeah it’s gotta be Donna” “Dan!” reminded me of Grian being scared of Tango because he didn’t know how he died, and Tango saying that he died to BigB’s wolf. And then BigB saying “What? No you didn’t” to mess with them, kinda like Dan throwing Donna under the bus. Also with “Careful or kids will end up on Charlie’s plate. He just ate” “How dare you!” is like Grian asking Gem about whether she’s eating people and her responding offended like “Excuse me?”

For Just for Once, I was thinking Jimmy, with the Canary Curse, sad that he had never been able to survive to the last episode. Especially with “Life is full of all of the trappings of the well-to-do”, that could be him upset and bitter that he is red at like 4 sessions in while most everybody is still green.

If I Loved You is VERY Desert Duo in DL, but it could also fit Pearl and Cleo, with their never ending rivalry. Also could be Scott and Pearl if you squint.

The Summoning is basically just the watchers. I can’t think of any specific moment where it works. I’m curious what you think. Maybe, if you really stretch it, you could make it about the Desert Duo cactus ring fight in 3L. But I think that works better with Cool As I Think I Am Reprise.

Speaking of: Cool As I Think I Am Reprise is definitely the cactus ring. Pete is Scar “You have to do it” “You’ll get to live on” “Is it really a crime if you get to live your life to the fullest” aka if you get to win. Steph is Grian, reluctant to kill him “What if I should go” “I can’t shoot you”, but ends up doing it anyway. Also the Star Wars reference “If I really, really did love you, you’d have to say” “I know” fits perfect for Scar.

Like I said before, Best of You is similar to Go Go Nighthawks, a feel-good early season song.

I don’t what fits with Dirty Dudes Must Die. I guess, like NPMD, revenge kills? Idk let me know if you thought of something for that.

Hatchet town actually is better with the boogey-pocalypse than you think! The first part, especially Mayor Lauter’s bit definitely seems like the warning given about the ‘zombies’ and the chorus is just PERFECT. The confusion could be taken as wondering how exactly the task works. and the other accusations could be the survivors confronting the people already infected - “I certainly don’t LOVE killing” especially fits with in how it’s a task- and the last person HAS to get involved. it also fits the secret life boogeys too because it has a mob mentality that the boogeyman in other seasons didn’t, not to mention it won’t stop at one death. I love your idea about including that little bit with Tango and Bigb because there is that suspicion there!! hatchet town for session 7 just is great all round

Jimmy for just for once is SOO sad but he’s just perfect for it. wanting to be the centre of attention = wanting to be victorious for once. all the talk about the life of a suburban housewife could be jimmy imagining what life would be like with his alliances if his life wasn’t cut short each time and also imagining how they’re living past his death and how it’s probably so much better and feeling left out and unimportant. and just.. yeah, the disheartening nature of the canary curse

to be honest i have no clue for if i loved you but I have to agree that double life desert duo seem like the best choice. with the way that they seem to detest each other and not really care about each other but past the attack on their base they mostly put that aside and do care about each other and work as one!! I truly cannot think of anything else though haha

the summoning is just tricky. whenever i hear it i always think of the winners but that makes no sense in canon and is more like an AU-y thing for me. the watchers would make the most sense but i don’t think we’ve had any real appearances or anything of them (outside of Martyn’s poem and such i think) and to be honest i only know the bare basics of the lore so i don’t really know haha. the ghosts could work but they never um. do anything?? or are that sinister or are really ever in the context of the song lmao. the closest ghost thing I can think of is when bdubs was summoned in last life to reveal the location of the non-reds. I think if you wanna include the summoning you’ve gotta not entirely stick to canon or make just a little bit up

the cactus fight being cool as i think i am reprise is such a cool idea actually!!!! also pete asking if steph would’ve wanted to go to homecoming with him could be them saying that if it were possible, they would’ve made a double victory or something.. oh dear.. but im gonna show a bit of my bias here and also say that as long as you can take the love as platonic and about the close bond between teammates, skizz’s sacrifice in limited life fits so well!!! “Is it really a crime if you get to live your life to the fullest?” is skizz quite literally giving etho a longer life to live. “You’re not as cool as you think you are” kind of resembles how etho just said he wished skizz was better at the game and though it seems harsh he’s just kinda mourning that fact. And the if I loved you part as the loyalty between TIES, and Skizz saying (essentially), “hey, I love you guys so much I’ll lay down my life for you - I have faith that you can make it to top three, for me”, and Etho saying it to be “it’s cruel to ask me to kill a teammate, and if you really loved us you wouldn’t give up”. It could also work for Scott and Gem in secret life where it’s in a much direr situation where they are at the very end, and Scott sacrifices his life to her.

To me, dirty dudes must die has always seemed like the winner at the very end, at the final fight, but only maybe Martyn and maybe Scar really apply. I always imagine the ensemble as the ghosts watching the final fight

Yeah, for the Summoning the only things that I could think of detoured from canon pretty heavily (though I guess there really isn’t much of a canon anyway). The LIB being the winners is really interesting! I’m gonna have to listen to it again with that in mind.

Cool As I Think I Am Reprise being Skizz’s final death omg. That’s sooo good. Especially “I’d have to let you go” because he lets go of them so that they have a better chance of winning- GAAHH. Skizz’s loyalty never fails to kill me.

Also, Thank YOU! This was honestly very self-indulgent for me as well (The neurodivergent urge to match every song you hear to your blorbos lol). And talking about this makes me want to make so many animatics.

Scar’s win,,, oh I have been thinking about this-

Before I begin, y’all remember after Martyn’s win, how long it took us to decide for certain what his title (mars) should be? And now how people are just lumping Scar in as ‘the earth’ due to some (frankly fairly flimsy) foil-ing with Pearl without any further consideration? Well I have an alternative answer to our current dilemma:

Pluto

1. Pluto is another celestial body aside from earth, if you really wanted to then you could put any of the winners on the earth, but none of them have been, it’s off limits (not only because all of them—including Scar—have better choices) so it fits the theme better than this

2. Pluto is the Roman god of death/the dead, Scar is renowned even out of the life series for leaving a trail of death wherever he goes, his own especially, and if that doesn’t just scream pluto at you then I have even more-

3. Pluto is also the god of money and wealth. Scar’s common thread throughout the series is monopolies, resources, and greed; the desert and dark oak saplings, the magic crystals life trades and enchanting table, the Jellie panda ranch and looting the deep dark, his deals in Limited Life, trader Scar’s.. you get the idea

4. Pluto is not a planet. I know I know, I’ve just said that Pluto fits so well in the celestial imagery and now I’m saying pluto isn’t a planet? Well this is equally true, pluto isn’t large enough to be a planet, it isn’t fast enough in its orbit to be a planet, it isn’t enough, it’s rejected and isolated, just like it’s godly counterpart, just like it’s ally-less winner

5. Pluto is the most distant planet from our sun, and her still clings to its orbit faintly, distantly, representative of Scar’s slow, painful separation from Grian, his grief growing and then fading, finally content with their distance, as well as how Grian won the first game, and Scar the latest, five games later, they orbit one another and yet will never be close, not the same way

In summary, Scar is no healing, living earth, but rather the isolated, deathly pluto, hardly even visible to the naked eye, hardly even considered for his win, hardly even connected to the Watchers who trap them all. The earth? No, welcome pluto to the winners’ circle:
