Part of the first run pressing of 1000 smokey red vinyl, Henry Laufer's 2013 ep follow-up to the much lauded "Bad Vibes" album came through with the force of a slow moving hurricane.  As slow moving as it was, it sounded easily just as good further slowed nearly to a grinding halt.  At either 33 or 45 this ep still stands as a taste of the future while captivating it's listener over all five of it's tracks.

Voodoo Child - Electronics (33rpm +3)

Mute Records 2004

Richard Hall (aka Moby) under his Voodoo Child moniker.

Got this one when I was a radio DJ for WDBM's electronic music program while in college.  On the inner sleeve notes for this 2004 album Richard Hall stated that "I decided to make a simple, straightfoward dance record".  With the release of the preceding twelve-inch promo release he managed to straddle two distinctly separate genres within electronic music.  "Light in Your Eyes" a tranced-out hands in the air moment and this on the other side of the dance music spectrum, "Electronics".  An understated affair for Moby's catalog on the B side, "Electronics" at it's time rubbed shoulders with more of the minimal techno output that was en vogue midway through the Oughts.  Considerably slowed down at 33rpm a smooth roller is now on display.

Slowly - Ming (Tranquil Elephantizer remix)

Slowly was a UK family duo of Caspar & Darius Kedros (aka Tranquil Elephantizer) producing within the realms of the mid 90's acid jazz, dub, and downtempo electronic music.  They released one album entitled "Ming" on the Chill Out Label in 1994...and that's where the trail ends.  As far as I can tell Caspar Kedros now works in Music Licensing.  I''ll be honest with you; I purchased this remix EP (for fifty cents from Amoeba Records in Hollywood, CA in 2008) strictly because it promised an Autechre remix.  It was AE that brought me to the prom, but Tranquil Elephantizer is who I danced with.

Caustic Window - On the Romance Tip (33rpm)

Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) under his Caustic Window guise.  Pressed for play at 45rpm, recorded here at 33rpm.

Purchased the 3 xLP Caustic Window Compilation used for $12.99 at Record Surplus in Los Angeles back in 2010.  Among the drill drums and hard breakbeats of that compilation, this track immediately jumped out at me.  

Rephlex Records released in 1992 originally on the J5 ep and then the Caustic Window compilation in 1998.
