Warm as a fire, and cheese… That’s how you melt cheese… They take a look of genuine thought as they evaluate what they’ve been told and put a straw into the cup… Nothing comes to mind that matches those evaluations. Not to mention they’ve never heard the phrase ‘neat as cheese’.

Grillby shrugs.

“it’s you!”

she cackles in triumph.  she has done it!  she told the riddle!

... was it funny though?  eh, who cares.  she seems very happy with herself.

“i think you’re really nice, and neat; like cheese!  i like cheese....”

Grillby slips behind the bar once more and uses their foot to snag a stool, sitting before her, and setting a cup of chocolate milk in front of her, they rested their chin on their palm and looked at her.

Then moved their hand in a ‘proceed’ type of way.

perfect.  they fell for their trap that she so carefully, totally planned out.  she giggled, and clapped her hands; then thought a moment.  hm.... what should her riddle be?  

she put on a determined face, and asked the riddle.

“i am warm as a fire, calm as a breeze; cool as snow and neat as cheese!  who am i?”

Grillby is cleaning the bar still. There’s a sign on the bar that says:

‘Grillby will erase Sans’s tab today if someone can make them laugh. The only rule is that it must be uproarious laughter that you can not only hear but see. Make Grillby really, truly laugh, and Sans’s tab will disappear.’

she looks at it, then at them; was this.. a challenge?  well, challenge.... somewhat accepted.  she didn’t exactly know sans that well, but mx. grillby was her friend!  so she guessed it worked out!

“mx. grillby!”  she chimed, tugging on their sleeve.  “wanna hear a funny riddle?”

it hurts to be near him -- he makes you want to scream, cry, throw a fit. would this be fixed if you had what he has? would you stop hating so furiously if you became him? open your heart to the possibility that not everyone wants to drown you. maybe then, you'll be able to swim.

emotions vs actions. ─ meta headcanon.

churro is a very sensitive and gentle child, and truly means no one any harm; but sometimes she can get very overwhelmed and lash out to protect herself.  growing up on the surface with her abusive and neglecting mother, she had to learn how to FIGHT for herself.  

when she fell, those memories of having to defend herself sparked every time someone even said ‘hello’ to her.  it took her a long time to remember that monsters aren’t anything like humans; they won’t actually try to hurt you until you fight back.  in fact, if you weaken a monster enough or treat them nicely they won’t want to fight anymore.  this is how she learned to have some MERCY both on them, and on herself.

hatred for humanity ─ meta headcanon.

she doesn’t really hate humanity; she just was never treated properly as a child by anyone except her father, who unfortunately died when she was very young.  her ‘hatred’ is just mistrust; she doesn’t have any faith in humanity anymore, since they never treated her like what she is; a child.  she had to almost die to realize she was being mistreated; and when she realized it, she began to hate all of humanity as a whole.  she is still a child, yes, but she is a very hurt one.  she only knows one thing; humans are cruel, and monsters are kind.
